Kyle kept staring at Kip the entire ride while Kip was doing his best to ignore him. What had he done to tick him off so much? If he was that worried about his magic reserves then no way would Kip ask for a heal, heck he should probably just stay away from him all together.
That warm fuzzy feeling he kept getting around him made him think that maybe they could be friends but forget it. He was way too much work to deal with. When the van finally stopped he couldn't get out fast enough.
Ignoring his weird half stalker he somehow gained. He focused on helping the guild set up. If things kept on their current routes the yak would be here in about five hours. Well being 'banned' from the actual battle had its perks. Some mages looked terrified others seemed calm and strategizing. All James was allowing him to do was supply aid basically.
Another scout team had been sent up slightly further with binoculars. The monster had an ability to release a condensed Majikku wave every ten minutes and it had two types it could use in alternating fashion. One caused other null creatures around it to die and the other caused creatures with elements to freeze in fear which it would then eat.
Kip shuddered as he listened to James's pep talk and strategy plan. They would wait for it to release its freeze ray then use the 20 minutes between it and its next one to attack it. At the ten minute mark they would withdraw temporarily just in case it could use the waves without alternating. Seemed simple enough, almost boring really, maybe he should have just gone back home instead.
He watched a few guild members killing off some lower level beasts in the area. At least their attack area was part of the open zone. The buildings here had all long been abandon.
He glanced at Kyle who was finally talking to some other people and not just staring at him. It was weird but he didn't hate him staring, sure it was uncomfortable but usually if someone stared he'd want to shred them. Why was he so different?
Everything was set up in ten minutes but the wait was so long. Only half an hour left, in the far distance if he listened hard he could hear the earthquake like sound moving toward them. It slowly was getting louder and louder.
Ten minutes tell interception. At the top of a building he could see its massive form moving. It was a giant yak with silvery white fur and its mutated horns had eight stabbers. It almost looked more like a bizarre deer from further off but as if came closer the yak characteristics grew.
The entire ground was now shaking with each of its steps. Its hooves were easily the size of cars. Its fur coat and fat body knocked buildings left and right and crushed them from above. It released another of its waves and destroyed the surrounding area. Its purple glow said it was the null wave. The black freeze one would be next.
"Time starts now, ten minutes till we attack!" Yelled James, "After its next wave."
The yak wandered another few steps then paused eyeing the ring of humans staying just out of its range. It let out a long bellowing cry and crushed a few more houses with its horns. Although they couldn't really be called houses anymore.
Its shriek was so loud. Kip covered his ears he really should have brought ear plugs if he had of known before hand. That could pop someone's ear drums if they got too close. It pawed the ground and snorted.
Its eyes scanned the area focusing on each of the guild members for a second. Creepy! Thought Kip as its eyes landed briefly on him. This monster gave him the chills like it was calculating the most efficient way to deal with the mass of humans around it.
Sure some monsters were smart and had gained intelligence but this one felt a step above the rest. Kip gulped as his throat dried out. This monster .... Every part of his body said he should run. He'd never encountered one with this kind of aura before. This must be why they called it rank 15.
Did these guys really want to fight this thing? He froze up as the beasts eyes turned to him again. Why was it looking at him twice? The icy blue mixed with red held his gaze for several seconds. Evil, that was the feeling, pure evil. Kip had started trembling all over before he even realized it.
It bellowed again and swished its tail turning a rundown building into rubble. Then its whole body started to glow with a black color. Its next wave was coming. Kip was out of range like everyone else but even still it activated its skill as if to say 'if you think you can, then come.'
The wave of black energy spread out around it clearing the entire area into a creator. It stood at the middle and gave out a battle cry.
"Now!" James yelled and the wave of guild hunters raced toward the beast. Kip glanced at his wrist where he was wearing one of the guild issued watches. It had auto started the ten minute countdown. He glanced back up to see various elements striking at the beast.
He felt a chill run down his spine, it was just like a human playing with a pile of ants. Maybe red ants if they gave themselves a little credit. Again every part of his body said to run.
