Chapter 28 - Consequences Of Lying And Betraying To Us

Consequences of lying and betraying to us

Mike put his hands inside his white coat pockets. He checked Felix's IV drip and monitored his heartbeat.

"You know you have developed seizures since you have taken over the company. Last time I prescribed you some medicines and had strictly reminded you to not forget about them but like all the old times, you took your health for granted and this happened. If you had followed my instructions then your seizure attack should have been gone by this year-end now I don't see any signs of it. We came back to where we started."

He explained to him. His voice showed disappointment. Felix decided to not say anything and keep his lips shut.

"I am seriously disappointed in myself more than you, you are my best friend and yet I couldn't see through when you displayed those fake smiles. I thought it was merely because we had asked you out when you should have rested."

Mike began to self-blame himself. Mike was Felix's childhood friend. They spent their whole childhood and youth together with their other friend, Louis. The three were inseparable. They went to the same school and also joined the same university. They completed their degrees together.

Felix mastered Business and Management, Mike took the road to medicine while Louis went for architecture. Their likes and dislikes differed but it didn't weaken their bond rather this made them stronger. They felt more connected as friends.

At this moment, seeing his best friend lying in the hospital bed along with machines attached to him. Mike considered himself an unworthy doctor. He assumed if he couldn't protect his friend, he doesn't have any right to conduct medical processes on others.

This was Mike Quinton, the softest and kindest heart man alive on the earth. His friends were shocked when he told them about his decision to be a doctor. They even laughed at him but after they saw his serious-looking face, their laughter died and they asked him why he is choosing such a profession when he was afraid of the hospital himself.

Then he had responded to them as "I had seen many crying for their loved ones. I witnessed them breaking down. I saw how they lost their will to live after knowing the death of their close ones. Some even lost their mental abilities, they became mentally unstable as they couldn't cope with the news of the death. They couldn't believe that the ones who they showered and pampered with love care, the ones who they treated delicately as if they were made of glass and a simple touch would break them into millions of pieces never to be joined again. I had seen their red, teary eyes. Even if none of them was a part of my family, I still felt and understood the pain. I wished to help them. Death is inevitable but I wanted to help them and make them strong enough to handle the heartbreaking results.

I want to be someone to whom others could hold on to when they are on their last breaths."

To say they got astonished and stunned would be an understatement and insult to their friend.

Since the day Mike realised his dream, he had worked day and night without a break. The day he was handed his degree, Mike cried his heart out. The next time, Mike sobbed like a baby when he had successfully finished his first neurosurgery and saved the life of his brain cancer patient. As time went by, Mike Quinton became a renowned doctor. The name that could make a patient smile and give them a slight ray of hope to fight his disease and live his life.

The exact Mike was contemplating on himself.

He deemed himself an unworthy and undeserving doctor.

Louis Kingston, the third godly handsome man and their friend, standing in a corner inside Felix's room walked over to Mike, who looked down at the hospital floor as if it was the most attractive.

Louis gave Mike a tight and hard smack on his head. The force used by Louis was sufficient to shake Mike out of his reverie.

"Give one more for me, since my hands are attached to this freaking IV drip." Felix requested his friend.

However, this backfired on him, they glared at them. Their eyes reeked of the burning blaze.

Their accusing gazes made Felix feel more guilty.

"You dare to talk now! Do you dare to say anything after what happened!!"

Louis's roaring voice boomed into the room. He scowled at his injured friend.

Felix inwardly rolled his eyes at Louis, he closed his eyes when he heard his friend.

Felix began to shout and yell at himself, 'Aaaaaa...this man won't stop until I turn deaf. Someone told him his voice is too high pitched for the liking of my ears, at this rate, I won't be stunned if one day I lose my hearing abilities.'

He knew his words would be ignored and since he still felt fatigued, he decided to be silent and let his both friends vent out their anger and outrage.

'I hope they will be fine after they release their pent up frustration on him.'

"And you Mr Stupid Dumbhead Doc, how could you self blame yourself for his negligence? What gave you this right? Listen to me Mike, as I would be saying it for the last and final time, even then if you can't understand. I will be left with only one choice that is to get you to start your basic schooling again. But I am sure you don't want that to happen so listen now,

You don't have any right to judge yourself. You can't doubt yourself because of other's ignorance and mistakes. You ought to help only those who are willing to live, not everyone. You can't compel your patients if they have already given up hope. We are alive and breathing because we have the will and the hope to live.

It would have been different if you had made someone understand the value of life. So don't self blame yourself.

This moron, Felix, needs a beating from us after he gets healthy. We should remind him what are the consequences of betraying and lying to us."

By the end, Louis's menacing glare was directed to Felix who didn't flinch or cower instead he faced it off with his nonchalant stare.
