Chapter 6 - New Terrain

The sun rose as Leigh hunted around a half day long. By swallowing more and more rabbits, Leigh tried to satisfy his hunger. Two things were clear at the end of his hunt, his hunger never satisfied for whatever reason and the Rabbit population of that particular forest was declining since 8 Rabbits never returned to their starving offspring.

-------------------------------

The hunger never gave way to the ridiculous amounts of food I provided my body with. I can only presume that this is not hunger and is instead something else, possibly the urge for more power that comes with this body.

As time passed and more rabbits fell prey to me, I started to seek bigger animals with more mass in their bodies.

I started walking towards the eastern side of my clearing in hopes of finding a newer and more clear part of the forest to work with since my previous hunting site has not only been stained by blood, but it also has less bigger mammals to work with.

I start walking towards the east side and after a good 2 hours have passed without any large mammal sightings, I finally reach another sector of the forest that seems to consist of practically the same trees as the previous sector but instead the environment is more green and woody. There are also observable rugged pieces of land.

The tough areas are climbing paths, which seem to be connected to a much higher terrain. My first guess is that this path leads to the cliff where my cave rests at the bottom of but that is not my main concern as of right now.

The main thing that has caught my attention is a deer that seems to be roaming around the sloped areas that lead to the upper grounds. The deer appears to be roughly 2 meters in length, making it far more enticing than the little rabbits, even if the hunt may be slightly more difficult.

I decided to use the same approach as the one I used to hunt the rabbits. I try my best to stealthily approach the closest tree to the deer. As I get closer, I see the breathtakingly magnificent deer munching on the grass in detail.

With its flawless skin, the animal is certainly one-of-a-kind. As I am absorbed in the beauty of it, I lose my balance behind the tree and stumble, but regain control of my body before reaching the ground. But it was too late; the spear had already struck the tree, making a loud enough sound for the moose to notice my presence.

I hurriedly took my spear in fear of the deer escaping and positioned my body to throw the spear. What happened next shocked me a lot since every animal I came upon had run away from me, the deer had turned around and was rushing towards my position.

At this particular moment, I threw my spear at the now charging deer but the spear hit the antlers of the deer and dropped to the ground proving to be more useless than I had imagined.

Although I was panicking at the thought of not having a long range weapon, I still did not lose my composure. I was honestly surprised at my state of mind since my soul and mind were still human. Perhaps all my talks about being emotionless were not complete nonsense.

The deer was now only a few meters away from me charging with its antlers first. When it was barely a meter away, I used my powerful legs to rush to the right in order to evade the animal's powerful assault.

The deer failed to readjust its direction and hit the tree in which I was previously in front of head on causing its antlers to penetrate the tree. Unfortunately for the animal, it was stuck living its back exposed to its predator.

I knew I just had a few seconds until the deer set itself free for a direct and fair battle, so I attacked it right away. Getting my spear back would have taken longer than I anticipated, so I chose to utilize my newly discovered power to break the creature's rear legs, immobilizing it.

At this moment I was cursing myself for leaving my pocket knife back at the cave, but again I had no pocket or way of bringing it along without slowing down my hand movements.

I approached the deer in seconds and grasped its two hind legs with my hands, sending the animal into a frenzy to get free from the tree even faster. I then proceeded to crush the legs like a cold hearted maniac and in only 5 seconds, the crunching sounds began and ended just as quickly.

Due to the discomfort, the deer wailed loudly and stopped moving its head. It was most likely still alive, but the shock of the trauma had rendered its entire body immobile; perhaps it perished as a result of the suffering. Not wishing to take any chances, I fetched my spear and killed the beast with a swift stab to the head.

Blood trickled around the deer's head and legs, but I was already used to it, even though it was still horrible. After doing the usual blood drenching procedures, I then consumed the much bigger animal. If one were to look at this scene, they would think many ants had started biting and eating the animal including its bones, making it a terrifying sight.

I could instantly feel the grains within my body increase by a huge number which put a wryly smile on my face. Since I had nothing to test my strength against, I just ignored it and moved on to seek my next prey.

I climbed up the increasingly inclined path in order to reach the cliff-like ground. After reaching the summit, I began travelling north in order to explore more of this elevated terrain.

But as I was walking through what seemed to be the most uncomfortable silence ever, I was greeted by a ferocious growl from my back.
