Chapter 7 - The King of the Forest

When I turned around to investigate the source of the loud and menacing growl, I was met by 5 wolves, one of the forest's most fearsome predators.

I've always assumed that wolves aren't as scary as they appear because they don't normally attack humans on sight, but the sight in front of my eyes proved me wrong. But, then again, I am not human.

Perhaps since these predators look at me as their competition or something weak since they have never seen a creature similar to me in their lives.

The wolves appear to be gray. The majority of their bodies are covered in fur. Then there's the slightly grey skin hue, which is accompanied by a mix of brown and white on their underbellies. A close inspection reveals various shades of grey covering its hind legs, tail, and ears, which appear to vary from light grey to black grey and even black.

When comparing the wolves to myself and the deer, I would estimate them to be roughly 70-80 centimeters tall and 150-160 centimeters long, which is not much in comparison to my stature, but they do instill fear in me due to my human mind.

There's also the reality that most creatures are terrified of the unknown, and these wolves represent the unknown to me in more ways than one because I've never been a nature person, hence my lack of knowledge regarding such areas of expertise.

The wolves do not sit around doing nothing while I analyze my enemy, their physical capabilities, and my choices to the best of my ability. They become more aggressive as they attempt to encircle me in a pentagon-shaped encirclement. I try to avoid getting surrounded to no avail, I fail while the wolves have covered any escape routes available.

"Well I guess running is no longer an option", I whisper out loud to comfort myself as I get into what I assume would be called a battle formation by bringing my spear up and keeping an eye on my surroundings.

While I wait for the wolves to approach me, I try to examine them to identify their alpha, since in the novels I've read and the movies I've watched, after the alpha is gone, the group either runs or fights sluggishly.

The problem is that there is no sure means of identifying the leader; I presume it is the wolf in front of me because of its particular location in the encirclement and because it appears to be at a different distance from me than the others, but this is merely a guess. And guesses are risky in such situations.

Even if I do discover the alpha, in order to kill it without the interference of the other wolves, I must throw my spear, which means battling four wolves barehanded, something I prefer not to do.

As the wolves and I stare at one another, the wolf at the far left side of the encirclement, pounces forward towards me. I swiftly change the direction of my body in a way that results in me directly facing towards the wolf.

The speed of these animals does not seem as fast as I thought, perhaps due to my enhanced eyesight and strength from the consumption of the bunnies and deer.

The wolf approaches me in midair, attempting to hurt me with its claws, only to be greeted with the end of my spear, which I utilized to not only deflect the wolf's claw assault, but also to knock it into the ground, hopefully injuring it due to my high strength.

The wolf falls to the ground and becomes stunned, making it impossible for him to stand back up for a couple of seconds. I try to bridge the gap between the wolf and myself so that I can administer a deadly blow to the creature with my spear, but the wolf to our left interrupts me by running towards me in an attempt to rescue its brethren.

This wolf is slightly smaller but is still threatening. It runs in an attempt to bite at my leg but meets its demise as I plunge my spear into its neck. Around a third of my spear is stuck within the body of the wolf, bloodied all over the head.

As I struggle to extract my lone weapon from the dead animal's body, the wolves on the far left and far right attack once again in an attempt for vengeance. The spear refuses to budge, and I am forced to split the stick in half in a desperate attempt to defend myself from the two wolves.

The wolf on the far right lunged at my hand with its villainous tooth. I broke the stick in two and turned around with all my might, swiping the staff at the far left wolf's chest, fracturing its bones and smashing it into a tree. A far superior attack than my prior spear smack, which lacked force due to the angle I swiped it at.

Unfortunately, the only remaining wolf at my left side, which is the far left wolf, successfully lands an attack on my body by swiping its right claw at my left leg.

I quickly grab my stick and use all the energy I can muster to drive its uneven side, which is the consequence of the staff breaking, into the wolf's back near its neck. The stick penetrates the creature, bringing about a slow and agonizing death. Because of its successful attack, the creature's agonizing wail brings me satisfaction.

The attack of the creature did not bring me any pain but I did feel weird for a second. I decide to ignore it since two more wolves remain and I do not have the time to analyze my own body.

I am now completely barehanded. While turning to confront the two remaining opponents, I try to withdraw the half spear that is still trapped inside the body of the first wolf I killed. It is useless since the wolf's body is raised upwards along the spear. It has to be stuck between bones or something similar.

I then rush towards the wolf I assume to be the alpha in a very fast speed, the wolf sees my action and gets into a defensive position while it readies its fangs. The wolf to my right jumps to intercept me but I smack it away using my left hand and it works!!

The wolf does not seem heavily injured but it looks to stumble a bit before standing up completely. I close the distance with the alpha wolf and then try to punch it but fail as it dodges my attack and instead bites my other hand.

With its teeth inserted in my condensed grains for only a few seconds, I use my other hand and grab its neck to crush its bones. I then proceed and then kill the living creature by crushing its neck bones and any flesh and organ beside it into pieces. Blood drips from the mouth and neck of the creature since its skin is twisted and torn apart.

I then turn to face the other wolf but get disappointed when I see it run towards the direction I came from. Before chasing it, I quickly try to analyze my body from the previous attacks and only see a bit of grains of my body on the ground meaning I can be harmed, but it is a very difficult task to perform.

I immediately turn to face the other wolf, but am dismayed to see it go in the direction I came from. Before chasing it, I immediately try to study my body from past attacks and only observe a few grains of my body on the ground, indicating that I can be hurt, but it's a difficult task to perform.

I then quickly drain the blood from the wolves and consume them for an increase in power and recovery of the grains I lost. It only took a couple minutes since I did not drench the blood fully.

Afterwards I decided to chase the wolf which had gotten a good distance away without theorizing about my body or anything else. It is not a challenging task considering my speed and the bloody tracks of the animal. I believe it got an open wound from my attack against its body.

I follow the footprints which are going towards the town I came from. After a couple of hours I finally reached the animal to see it collapse on the ground howling away. It seems like it is very close to death from bleeding. I still want vengeance for all that happened, I approach the creature and crush every single bone of its body without completely destroying them.

The monster wails and wails, and I begin to enjoy it even more until it eventually dies. If I had a mouth, I'd be grinning like a lunatic right now. If I don't stop, I might as well become addicted to it.

Just as I start resting and clearing the creature of its blood, I see three humans staring at me, terror in their eyes, shaking as cold sweet falls from their silky skins.
