It was the afternoon of that day, and the sun was shining brightly on the cave's entrance.
I tried to rest for an hour after claiming this cave as my home, but no matter how hard I tried, I failed. I just couldn't sleep because I wasn't weary at all. In other words, my mind had become so accustomed to the concept of sleeping that I believed it was still necessary. My body, on the other hand, defied this command and was visibly more energetic than ever!!!
After this ordeal, I pondered if my demonic body needed sleep at all, given that I had been working both my mind and body since yesterday morning. I chose to wait two more days to see if I could get tired because this new physical body may only have the capability to go for a longer period without rest compared to a human body.
I decided it was time to go hunting after sorting my thoughts, but as I stepped out of the cave and into the bright sunlight, my gaze was drawn to the pond, and I realized that I still wanted to test my body's reaction to water.
With this in mind, I squatted down and approached the water. I got closer and closer to the pond until there was only 10 cm between the water and my unusually spooky left foot. After a while, I recognized that nothing was going to happen, so I moved my foot closer in the hopes that my body would bridge over to the water and take it in, like it did with the steak back in my dorm, however this did not occur.
Since nothing happened I put my foot in the water since I truly did not remember whether the meat came into contact with my feet or not when it started devouring it. Afterwards, I noticed that the part of my foot's outline that was submerged in the water, was becoming more hardened and immobile.
Merely seconds passed until the outline flopped and vanished, allowing the grains of my body to make a bridge between the water and me, but what followed was only a dreadful pain that felt like someone was aggressively sucking out my blood with syringes.
The instant the small bridge made contact with water and the pain overtook me, I pulled my foot out of the water giving way for the outline to reform around my foot. After calming myself down, I noticed the small dark indigo grains floating on water like very small caviars. As reality dawned on me, I felt as if a part of me was extracted out of my body, weakening me considerably.
The result of my painful experiment was clearly the opposite of what I had predicted; whereas meat and certain foods increase my strength by increasing the number of grains within my body, water decreases them by taking them out of my body, thus weakening me since my body becomes less dense and solid.
I do not know how to interpret the results, does this count as a weakness of mine since the grains are both my life and power? Or will it instead help me achieve something in some way? I do not know hence why I decide to ignore the unexpected results, or at least forget them.
With water out of the way, It is now time for hunting. In this forest, I've observed a wide range of animals, from prey to predator, from cute to terrible. Out of all the ones I've seen, the white furry rabbits are the most advantageous because they appear to be feeble, making them easier to hunt.
Even though these rabbits are weak and are incapable of putting up a fight, I still decided to make a spear. The reason for this is because without a spear I have to run after these animals to catch them and then finish them off with my pocket knife which would cause a lot of sounds. These fighting sounds may attract other animals, and I would prefer to avoid the presence of a third party in my hunts.
I begin looking around the area for a stick that is longer than my own height to use as the spear's base. I'd like to find a stick that is longer than my height so that if I trip, the spear does not accidentally stab me. Another factor is clearly the greater range it provides. The clearing is empty of such a stick, requiring me to search the rest of the forest.
I came upon a 2.6 meter long stick after only a few minutes of strolling. After that, I return to my cave and place the stick at the cave's entrance. I then return to the clearing in quest of two stones, one preferably sharp and the other a random stone.
I come upon a slightly sharp stone and then pick a medium-sized stone at random. I then return to the cave's entrance. I use one of the stones to sharpen the other, resulting in a more hazardous broadhead-shaped point for my spear.
Next, I use the sharper stone to smooth off the surface of the stick and sharpen one side of the stick. After that, I cut the sharper side of the stick in half, then placed the sharpened stone in the area between the two split sides of the stick and used a plant fiber that I found while searching for the stick to tightly knot the stone and stick together.
With the spear done, I head out in search of another cute little mea..rabbit.
After searching through the forest for 10 minutes, I finally found a little white rabbit near a tree just like the one I saw when I entered the forest. I looked around my surroundings to makes sure no other animal was around to interfere and then I stealthily closed the gap between the rabbit and myself.
When there was only a couple of meters between the animal and I, I decided to throw my spear. I knew that my aim was probably horrible but I trusted my newly found strength and I truly did not mind if I missed since these rabbits were actually quite common.
I positioned myself to throw the spear. I drew the spear behind my neck and utilised one of my legs to add force to my already lethal strength. I threw the spear when everything looked to be in order, and the creature's body was instantaneously punctured as it turned its head to look at the high velocity spear that would end its life.
I was honestly surprised at my perfect aim but decided to ignore it since it was probably due to the enhanced sight of my red eyes. I then got closer to the body of the rabbit and was looking at its pitiful body before I decided that I had to finish it no matter what. With that thought, I took the spear out of its body and finished the poor creature.
Killing the animal felt... disgusting but I knew that I had to do it anyway. I then drenched the animal of its blood since it was a liquid like water meaning it might harm me. I struggled with the idea of eating an uncooked creature with bones that were visible because of me opening its body up to drench the blood but at the end I still brought it near a section of my body to see it get devoured like before.
After a few seconds had elapsed since my body devoured the rabbit, I could sense that I was stronger than before, even if only marginally so.
I was still hungry even though I just consumed a whole rabbit, including its bones which lead me to hunt even more.
Only 15 minutes had passed until I found another white rabbit that was peacefully living its life just to be penetrated by a 2.6 meter long spear. I performed the same actions as before to drench the creature's blood. As I was bringing the small rabbit next to my body for consumption, a crazy idea hit me.
I knew I was strong enough to crush thin metal that was hollowed inside but what about bones? Can I crush bones? I honestly didn't know because my knowledge of bones was severely limited, and I felt that discovering my ability will be critical in future confrontations against more aggressive and threatening animals.
Because the rabbit was small enough to fit in one of my large hands, I decided to attempt destroying its bones by just crushing its body as a whole with one palm.
I stared at the dead animal for 10 minutes unable to perform the cold and heartless action but I knew that I had to do it. During these 10 minutes, my mind kept on trying to resolve itself for this action but to no avail it kept on failing.
It was similar to the first time someone tried to kill a centipede on a wall or ceiling. A child would need a lot of guts to kill a centipede with nothing but his hands or a piece of tissue since the dread of failure is so strong. If one fails, the centipede may begin to run or possibly fall on you, which is extremely frightening.
After the 10 minutes passed, I finally resolved myself and decided to do it and what followed after was the crunching sounds of bones which were oddly satisfying?
I was horrified and disgusted at my action but nevertheless I had already done it and there was no going back.
I was successful; the cute creature's entire body, including bones, was crushed, as were the insides, and various colored liquids dripped from the crushed body. I digested the rabbit and gained even more strength without even thinking for a second after knowing more about my capabilities.
But I was still HUNGRY. What kind of Monster have I become?
