After arriving at the MCG the two were given ID cards with a number on them, then directed to the orientation hall. Many of the newcomers there were dressed similarly to Melvin, though most of their clothes weren't nearly as expensive, even Lydia was wearing formal attire, along with her sneakers that is. 'Good thing I wore my suit and not random clothes.' Melvin thought to himself. Although one thing became clear to Melvin he was the only one of the newcomers with a briefcase.
"Welcome all to the MCG!", a loud voice boomed throughout the hall from a stage at the front of the hall. Instantly Melvins attention turned towards the direction of the sound. "I am the director of the MCG, Theodore Wallen, you can refer to me as Mr. Wallen". Melvin could see from his appearance that Theodore Wallen was a big man who was well composed dressed in a bright white suit, with his graying hair combed back a burly mustache neatly trimmed, and a scar on his face going through his left eye.
"This is the first day of your new lives as monster investigators!", exclaimed Theodore. Applause exploded from the crowd as they cheered after hearing those words. Melvin on the other hand was feeling a bit nervous after hearing those words though, after all it meant he was no longer just another person he was an investigator now.
"After the orientation comes to a close each of you will be heading to different locations with high level investigators who will determine your aptitude for field work,". After a sitting through a brief introduction to the workings of the MCG the orientation was finally coming to a close and Melvin couldn't have been any more nervous.
"Now I will hand things over to our minister of affairs Mr. Gordon." Theodore said. "Thank you Mr. Wallen," replied Mr. Gordon into the microphone. "You will now break into pairs indicated by the number on your identification card." Mr. Gordon said waiting for them to situate themselves into their groups. Melvin was a bit disappointed when he noticed he wasn't grouped with Lydia. However she smiled at him and said, "It's fine we can always meet up after the exam,". He smiled at her sheepishly and nodded in agreement.
After making his way to his assigned group Melvin was shocked to say the least. Including himself their were two others from notable families. Kang Yu from the Yu martial arts family, Kang wasn't very tall but he also wasn't short he has spikey black hair and wore a Yellow suit with a yellow bandana around his head and Scarlett Ignis from the Ignis Family, Scarlett is a petite looking girl with a bob cut and her families signature fiery red hair.
However the biggest surprise was their superior who would be leading them it was none other than Drake Imperium. Drake was famous among the investigators for his strength and speed which were able to match or even sometimes far surpass monsters of middle-class reaching that of lower level high-class monsters. He was even part of the well respected Imperium family, a mysterious family that had emerged as one of the greatest benefactors to the MCG.
"It's time to patrol." Drake said in a somber tone. Melvin and the rest followed Drake outside of the MCG tower to the wall that surrounded the entire city, this includes the Sanguis family estate. "We will be patrolling the south side of the wall to ensure the safety of the inhabitants of Solstitium. Don't stray to far from the group." Drake said very demandingly. 'Why what's out there?', Melvin thought curiously.
Moments later the gate had opened and what was out side shook Melvin to his core. A majestic mountain surround by a captivating forest with clear streams flowing all throughout. "Remain on guard low-class monsters are still dangerous to new investigators and a confrontation could be fatal." Drake warned.
"What could be so dangerous about a low class?" Kang asked with a smug attitude. Melvin was blown away at the obvious disrespect Kang was showing to Drake. "If he says it's dangerous then it's dangerous." said a quiet voice from the back. It was Scarlett who was sticking up for Drake. "Forget that I'm gonna show you all low-class monsters aren't special and when I do, I'm gonna have my own Telum." Kang said sprinting past the group into the forest.
"Looks like it's happening again, the hunt is on." Drake said pushing a button on his briefcase moments later a silver spear with two smaller prongs and gold trim formed from the briefcase. "This is my telum Argent Tarragon." Drake said noticing the other two starring. 'Wow so that's what this is', Thought Melvin staring at the case in his hand.
"Do you know how to use that?", Drake asked starring right at Melvin. "No.", Melvin replied. "Okay then, stay behind me then." Drake told them. What Drake hadn't mentioned to the group was that their was a beast far stronger than the others in the area of the south gate, a humanoid high-class.
