"Second Master Lan" I look away from Wei and turn towards Lady Jiang "Will A Xian be alright?" Her concern reminds me of my own brother and I nod "He will be. I'll be here day and night, playing my Zither to calm his mind and help him meditate".
"Second Master Lan, we're thankful for your help" she bows and in return I salute her. "Second Master Lan, if you require anything, please let me know". With a kind smile she leaves and I turn back to look at you.
Sitting by your side, I lean to feel your temperature. As my fingers glide your cheeks, my thumb caresses your mole.
Eyes widening, I shake myself from the sin I was to commit. Tugging you into the silk blanket, I occupy the seat next to your bed and call for Wangji.
Closing my eyes and having your image behind them, I play.
My fingers glide through the strings as if they are caressing your tresses. The smoothness of them is like the melted butter that helps me play the melody from my heart to yours. Your name on my lips is a prayer from my heart, to heal your wound forever is what I want.
The beats of my heart are in tune with the music I play, secretly hoping that maybe you can hear them too. Such was my involvement in playing for you, I did not even realise it was past my bed time.
"Second Master Lan" a gentle voice whispers with a short breath of a knock. Opening the door, I find Lady Jiang smiling at me. "I brought you some food" bowing down and not having the heart to deny Wei's Shijie, I eat what she serves.
Bidding her farewell for the night and promising that I would be back tomorrow, her eyes look relived for my efforts and I leave Wei's bed chamber.
Walking across the small bridge, flows a small river below. The sounds of are of subtle ripples when my brother calls my name "Wangji".
His smile is a balm to my aching heart and it is truly only him who understands my feelings.
Standing there with just an amount of silence between us, I finally heave a sigh that had been bottled up inside me.
"Is Young Master Wei alright?"
"Hm" hopefully.
"You must be hungry. You were playing the Zither since morning"
"No, I am alright"
"At times" brother pauses and I look at him.
"Hm?"
"At times I wish I had not asked you to be friends with him?"
My breathing falters. Never has brother ever expressed his disdain.
"Why?" I ask, my voice sounding meek.
"Cause you feel too much" he brushes my hair away from my face tenderly and his eyes look saa "just like our father. I am worried you'll be hurt forever. Just like him" he stresses.
Unable to look into his eyes, my gaze lands on the reflection of the moon on the river.
"You're just 17 Wangji, you're still a child to me" he whispers and I close my eyes.
Am I just 17? Why do I feel that I have lived many lives already.

"Go and sleep, I am sure you'll be back to aid Young Master Wei tomorrow"
Unable to say anything further, I bow and leave. Entering my bed chamber, I untie my robes and as they fall onto the ground, I walk upto a mirror and watch my reflection against it. My skin bears wounds so deep, that the blood has caked up in there. Not caring further, I take a dip in the tub of water and close my eyes and the last I dream is of a man in my arms.
The routine had been set. Every day I would play for him, with my heart and soul. Nothing mattered. Just his mental health was of utmost importance to me.
Get well soon Wei. Please.
Fourth day, my prayers were heard. As I walked in, seeing him sitting on that bed, my soul was relieved.
My Wei is back.
I know it's an extremely small chapter, but I truly felt it was so beautiful and pure. Lan Zhan, how can you love someone so much, sweetheart?
