With his new found goal, Nick began to let his mind wander. All that he'd want the final outcome to entail. Everything he may face along the way. Suddenly, he realized he needed to familiarize himself with the pack or packs around the world. "Jin, where is the pack now?"
Caught off guard by the question, Jin didn't know why he'd want to know. She began to fear he'd go looking for them. Even still, "We were in Southern Vermont when I left. The pack moves around a lot, changing locations every year or two. It's how they remain undetected by ordinary people. What are you thinking of doing?" She has faith that Nick wouldn't be stupid enough to go head to head with the pack alone but the worry still remained in her mind.
"How many made up the pack before you separated yourself from them?" The burning desire began leaking from Nick into the room. Jin could feel that whatever he was thinking g of doing, it wasn't anything simple. She also knew that no matter what she said, it wouldn't change his mind. He was born stubborn and it has only gotten more intense with time. If he had set his mind to do something, neither Heaven nor Hell could block his path.
Steeling her mind against her own worry, Jin began to tell everything there was about the pack. The amount of members involved, the social hierarchy, habitual movements, but most importantly, the name of the Alpha. "His name is Connor. He was in charge and lead the assault on our village. In the time I was with them, only Mickael dared challenge his authority. Connor tore his throat out in front of the entire pack as a message that his word is law."
With a new understanding of what she'd gone through all those years, Nick felt sorrowful for her and every normal member of the pack. Connor put himself above all else and lead with a mindset of absolute submission. Everybody suffered at the lower ends of the pyramid. Only the ones he deemed worthy were allowed to stand by his side and once there, they lived in luxury. Also, no women were allowed to hold power. They were either enslaved to the higher or thrown into suicide missions for disobedience. Nick began to wonder how exactly Jin managed to survive let alone escape.
He decided against asking her about it out of fear of stirring up unpleasant memories. Instead, Nick began digging for any information about the pack and its whereabouts. He was determined to remove the cancer from Earth that was Connor. Having never met him before, Nick was essentially going in blind. All the information derived from the accounts Jin had told him of and what he had observed several hundred years ago.

This first break in his search came when he discovered there was likely another beast living a couple hours away from where they are currently. After brief consideration, Nick put in for some time off from his day job. He also devised an excuse of scouting a new city to leave Jin oblivious to his true goal. He understood the potential risks he would be facing should he run into a pack and it was this understanding that drove him to leave her behind. He believed full heartedly that if she was present, he would be too worried about her safety to be able to go all out against all threats he may meet.
When he'd arrived within the area he had ascertained in his research. Nick fully retained a low profile. This was no small town with a single main road and a mom-n-pop that all the locals used for their weekly needs. This was a The Big Apple and any one person will melt into the crowds of people along the streets. With his heightened senses, Nick was able to smell the dog halfway down 5th Street taking a leak on the fire hydrant.
Every bar he passed reeked of alcohol; obviously, as well as drugs and...fish? Needless to say, there was a reason Nick preferred the comfort of small towns throughout the North Western United States. There, the air was fresh and people were kind. Only having been here for a few hours, and Nick has been threatened, pickpocketed, and assaulted. Being Nick, no mind was paid to the empty threats, his wallet was quickly reobtained, and the assailant is currently sitting lifeless in some dark ally with his head turned one hundred eighty degrees around.
After wandering nearly the full length of 5th Street, he found what he was looking for. Well, he was actually smelling for it. After the run-in with Mike and Abby, he realized beasts have a very distinct smell. Even Jin had that unique smell lingering over her. No shower or perfume was ever able to mask it. Knowing this, Nick knew that his presence will quickly become know to the beast he is drawing near.
