She slowly opened her eyes and realized that it was already morning. She moved a bit and felt that his arm was around her waist. She rested her head on his chest again and went back to sleep. He grunted softly, waking up to get up already but when he saw her comfortably asleep beside her, he pulled her closer instead and left a kiss on her forehead.
"Good morning." She whispered and he gave a good morning kiss. She sat up on the bed and he just noticed the huge scar on her bare back.
She got that scar when she was a kid. The doctors already expected that she would die because of the large wound she got from the car accident but her body fought for her life and she survived. He traced it with his fingertips and her memories of the accident flashed in his mind. He chose to know everything about her and if she knew that he was not an ordinary human, she might run away and disappear from him.
"Good morning. Would you like to have a quick shower before having breakfast?" He asked. She smiled softly and nodded. The silence between their words was comfortable for her.
"You told me last night that we will visit your home. When will we go there?" Excitement surfaced on her voice. He can't tell the truth yet. Not now.
"Soon. The doctor said that you are recovering your vision, right? Let's focus on your health first. I know that you want to see things again." He caressed her cheek before pinching it lightly.
"Alright. You will help me recover, right?" She chuckled and he hugged her before nodding. They literally looked like a happy couple but the main problem is he should not be existing in that world.
Several thoughts flooded his mind while preparing breakfast. He looked at his hands and the black ink on his chest reached his fingers now. He is running out of time. If he will not be able to go back to the underworld soon, he will perish in the human world instead. His father only gave him half a year to find a suitable bride. He just accidentally saw Fuyu taking her own life at the cliff, that's why he approached and saved her.
"I can smell the sweet milk already." She hugged him from behind as she was already done taking a shower. He took the mugs and placed them on the table.
"I cooked bacon and sausages." He said and he also served the plates on the table. She released him from the hug and took her seat.
"I'm fine with that. I like bacon but I can't have too much because it is a little unhealthy for me." She smiled while holding the fork and knife to cut the bacon into shorter strips.
"Do you believe in demons, Fuyu?" He suddenly and she started wondering. She pouted a bit before nodding.
"I remembered when I was a kid. My real mother said that our ancestors practiced witchcraft and my great grandparents were taken by the demons. She said that they died because of unknown reasons and when they found their bodies, it was in ashes. It seemed like they were burned." She started eating when he finally took his seat across from her.
"It sounds like an urban legend." He remarked and she nodded while smiling. Indeed, it is. That story came from her mother's side and since her last name changed into Hasegawa, they didn't experience being bullied by other children.
Right after having breakfast, they stayed in the garden. She got one of her books while he is trimming the plants and watering it. There is a huge tree in her garden and she remembered that it was her father who planted it. She was happy when she learned that it grew into a beautiful tree. It gives her the feeling of being watched by her real parents.
"Hikaru, would you like to make bracelets with me? I still have beads for it and I will need to give the bracelets at the end of the month." She said and he looked at the mess he made while gardening.
"Sure. Let me finish this first. I still need to clean the mess." He was about to wipe his sweat but she held his arm gently and used her handkerchief to wipe it for him.
"Be careful with the branches. It might prick your feet again." He said but she didn't listen to him. She tiptoed and wrapped her arms around his neck.
"What's wrong?" He threw the hedge shears far from them and wrapped his arms around her waist. She laughed softly and lifted her legs.
"You're like a kid." He said and he walked towards the wooden bench to put her down but she didn't let go of him, so he has no choice but to go back inside the house and put her down on the couch.
"Stay there." She puffed her cheeks when he went back to the garden. She followed him outside and jumped on his back. He almost fell on the ground but he caught her.
"Seriously, Hasegawa Fuyu. Don't do that again. Tell me what you want." She tightened her hug around his shoulders and rested her head on it.
"Promise me that you will never leave me alone or not alone." She said and he stopped for a while. He let out a light sigh and carefully put her down.
"I can't promise but I will do my best." He turned around to face her and he saw the loneliness in her eyes. She knows what he's trying to say.
"I know that once you finish your job as my caretaker, you will leave me. If I keep myself blind, will you not leave me anymore?" She was almost crying but she didn't want him to see her tears.
"That's impossible, Fuyu. My contract is only up to six months." He finally said. He just started living there for more than a week. If she will be able to recover her vision within the next five months, she will see his true form.
