Chapter 19 - Status

A gentle breeze that rustled the tree leaves blew by, ruffling a mane of snow-ice hair and causing Solis to slowly open up his closed eyelids. Subsequently, a pair of pure vermilion eyes were revealed to the whole world.

"The Demon Continent, Country of Nulgath, Town of Nebuchadnezzar…"

He recited where he was, as he wanted to at least remember the names of the place he currently stayed in. Then, while he surveyed around him, most of Solis' vision was obscured by the dense mist and fog. Of course, he kinda expected this already; only an idiot wouldn't be able to tell that the mist and fog encompassing the entire Demon Continent wouldn't hinder their eyesight. If a player chose to live here, this situation shouldn't really come as a surprise to them and be regretful about later.

"This fog really is something, huh… I can't seem to see very well past ten feet in front of me. And by the way, wasn't I supposed to be sent to the Town of Nebuchadnezzar, or somewhere relatively close to it at least? Then, why the heck am I stuck in the middle of bumf**k nowhere!"

The charcoal-textured bark of the oddly shaped trees surrounded him, whereas above his head he could see the striking bright autumn-red leaves that looked like waves of fire being swished by the wind. Looking down on the ground, he noticed that his dark scaly legs were standing on a crude stone pavement.

"By the looks of this stone pavement, at the minimum, it's a sign or evidence of civilization nearby... Guess I'll just have to follow it and see where it leads. Another thing, I hadn't really asked Grazier or the System about this, but… how do you open the menu in this game?"

That information was supposed to be something very important, yet he didn't think of it during the entire time he freely received their guidance.

"Well, let's put some things to the test. In the past VR games that I've played, it was mostly voice commands that configured things so I'll try that. Game Menu!"

Immediately, a digital screen materialized itself out of thin air before his eyes. It was an already familiar sight to see this floating static window, and listed on it were various commands or options for him to figure out.

"Hmm… There are some general options here like Account, Character, Friends List, Settings, FAQs, and Logout. There's also a couple of additional features: Camera, Map, and Player Leaderboard. And lastly, one singular gray box with the word Guild on it. I'm guessing the gray, faded color means it's still not accessible."

To try out his theory, Solis tapped on the sole gray box posted there on the Game Menu, and just as he had predicted it didn't allow him access to it yet.

"I think the most important option to see here right now is Character, so I'll check it out first."

As he tapped the Character option next, several specific features then presented themselves in a column.

"Character Page, Status Window, Inventory, Pets, Road to Enlightenment, Skill Slots, and Genetic Skill Tree. The Pets feature is colored gray, though; meaning it's still unavailable to me… Let's see our Character Page for now."

He tapped the box that had Character Page written on it. In the next moment, a window showcasing the full profile of his avatar or character and all of the various stats and values he had popped up.

His character's chosen race was exactly how he pictured it back then at the little witch Grazier's place. The Speed Devil Race had a headful of whitish-blue hair with ram horns, a devilish red face and eyes, spiky ears; a dark-plated lean body, chimera legs, and slender arms with hands that resembled claws rather than actual fingers.

The player Solis' stats and values were also there as he took a closer look at it—

"Well, damn. These stats be looking real pathetic right now. I wouldn't be surprised if a dog could bite me to death at my current level." Solis commented nonchalantly. "Anyway, what can we do about this I wonder?"

He promptly exited the Character Page and then went over to the Status Window.

"I got five points in Agility and four points each in Dexterity and Stamina as a default. This must be because I'm a Speed Devil. Welp, guess I'ma add the two free Attribute Points to my Agility Stat, then. And with that, I now have seven points to my agility; that should make me quick enough to dodge a couple of attacks."

Afterwards, Solis exited the Status Window and tapped the box that spelt Inventory next. On the rightmost corner of the screen, he saw the numerical values of 1/30 posted there, which was probably the number of occupied and vacant item slots that he was given for a start. Additionally, there was also a measurement of gold on the opposite side of it, and it totaled a whopping zero point zero unit or figure.

In any case, the only item placed inside his inventory was a simple metal dagger that had no particular traits that stood out whatsoever. He tapped on the dagger and three prompt commands cropped up directly below it which stated: Equip, Discard, and Details.

Firstly, he pressed the Details command and a string of information came out—

He then equipped it in the primary weapon slot on his character that was shown right next to the Inventory screen. Immediately and with a dazzling sparkle, motes of light appeared out of the blue and gathered to materialize a dagger in his right hand.

"Well, well, well. Ain't that just nifty."
