Chapter 18 - Let the Adventure begin!

First of all, what really caught his eye was the mesmerizing, crystalline ocean waters that stretched far into the all-embracing breadth of the clear horizon. Large natural rock formations dotted the sea, and scattered little islands were strewn about here and there. Furthermore, if he were to entirely focus his eyesight, he could make out a myriad of mythical sea creatures swimming on the surface level.

When Solis turned around to take a look behind him, his field of vision was filled with the intoxicating fresh breath of the untamed. An unimaginable virgin jungle sprawled out before him: thick evergreen with long, overgrown wild leaves; mountains that were small yet broad rolling down with dense waterfalls; sizeable caves on the earth's surface that looked similar to the hungry, gaping maw of a ferocious animal; and lastly, volcanoes of every shape releasing clouds of sullen gray smog in its vent at the summit.

[Welcome to the Untamed Continent. The law of the jungle is seen and experienced everywhere in this realm. Its inhabitants are savages, and they live in barbaric civilizations that focus on taming wild beasts. In fact, the primitive economy that they have on the Untamed Continent relies heavily on beast tamers, as strong animals are made to be the cornerstone which they use to build up almost everything out here in the wilderness. All things are made possible, easier, and more convenient because of the superfluous monster species that thrive all throughout the regions. To the untamed, physical power and bodily strength is the epitome objective of every living being on the continent. It is absolute dictatorship and lawlessness, where the strong enslave, lord, and prey upon the feeble.]

Upon hearing all of this, Solis couldn't help but give out a sharp, brief whistle to indicate his somewhat surprised reaction.

"Whew~ It definitely sounds a whole lot rougher living out in this Untamed Continent than all the other ones."

The system had no comment for that. Instead, it moved on with its duty as usual while saying to him,

[I have now shown you the continents where you can be incarnated. With that being said: which of the Four Great Continents would the player like to travel and reside in?]

"You're a real piece of work, huh. Always getting straight to the point."

[...]

The system didn't respond, merely awaiting his decision with complete silence.

'Guess the system's AI ain't really that advanced as I initially thought?'

Regardless, Solis began to seriously think over his four choices—well, there were only actually three for him, because he already decided to omit the boring Exceed Continent out of the picture.

"Now then, it is either of those three… the Demon, the Spirit, or the Untamed…" Solis scrunched up his temples as he thought out loud. "Well, considering that I'll be a Speed Devil, which is a native race in the Demon Continent, I believe it's only natural for me to start there, I suppose."

[Player, have you made your final decision?]

"No, wait."

[Currently waiting.]

"Hnnng… But, even still… just because I'm of the Demon race, doesn't mean I have to reside in the Demon Continent, right?"

[That is correct. It is entirely fine and possible for foreign races to live on other continents. There are no restrictions in place for that.]

A straightaway reply came from the system. Solis has never been an indecisive person when it came to most things, so he didn't know why he had to be extra deliberate about this.

"Haaa… You know what? Let's play it safe, Solis." He calmed himself down with a quiet exhale, then addressed the omnipresent voice who had no face to show, "Yo, almighty System-san~"

[Yes. What is it that you wish to ask?]

"Nothing. I've just finally landed a choice for myself."

[That's great to hear. Remember, after this selection, you can no longer take it back; it is a permanent residence. Do you understand?]

"I understand." Solis closed his eyes dramatically, and said the words he wanted to say, "I choose… the Demon Continent!"

[Very well, then. I'm transporting you back to the Demon Continent.]

With those words, Solis was brought back to the realm of demons in an instant. The dark landscape permeating with mist and fog, floating islands with waterfalls, and piercing sharp cliffs and charcoal trees with autumn-red leaves returned to view for a second time.

"Yep, the Demon Continent is where it's at. Now, this is a realm with real fantasy elements! Well, to be fair, the Spirit Continent could also be considered as such."

[Player, you have picked the Demon Continent as your homeland. Now, it is time to pick a country where you'll be settling. Please again choose from these displayed selections.]

"Wait a minute, System. I have a request to make the process much faster for you and me."

[I'm listening.]

"Show me only the countries that are at war. The countries with the most wartime activity."

[Affirmative. Then, please select from these options.]

Four countries of the Demon Continent were showcased to him on a wide digital screen, along with their following information.

"So, only four countries are at war, huh. I'm guessing the rest are relatively peaceful?"

[That is correct. The countries of Nulgath and Qrow Hellfinder are fully engaged in an all-out war with each other. Meanwhile, Demon Zion and Devil's Gate are having a big, regional dispute about their respective Gods, but it has yet to completely gone out of proportion. So, player, what will it be?]

"Actually, I don't really care as long as I get to have a lot of fun taking out my anger on others with a reasonable cause. With that being the case, at completely random, I will choose the first option. Whatever damn country it was called."

[Are you referring to the country of Nulgath?]

"Yeah, whatever. That one will do, I guess."

[Final decision?]

"Hell yeah!"

[Understood. The player has decided to settle in Nulgath. Lastly, which town or village would you like to spawn to?]

"Seriously…? Another damn choice?"

[Don't worry, for this is the last one before you can finally go on to your heroic adventures!]

"…Yeah, I don't know if my intentions for adventuring could be called heroic or not. As I said, I just wanna beat people up with a just cause to do so."

[Please pick from these options!]

The system dismissed or didn't pay any attention at all to his statements, as it showcased another round of selections. Solis couldn't help but let out a huge sigh looking at the long-ass list.

'Seriously, screw this. I'm getting bored and tired of having to think things through all the time. I just wanna enjoy the damn game already!'

Carrying his fervent wish for some much-anticipated action already, Solis pressed his index finger on the screen at random and confirmed his choice quickly with the system.

[You have chosen the town of Nebuchadnezzar as your starting point. I wish you all the best, player.]

"Alright! At long last, this is goodbye. See ya later, damn System. But really, you were very helpful. Arigathanks~!"

In the end, Solis' figure disappeared from the sky, thus he wasn't able to catch or hear the final words the system left for him—and those words were…

[What a rascal.]
