Chapter 10 - blending shades

I'm interested in metaphors(which sometimes leads to painfully cliche words...)

Please bear with me. After all, I like to think that some things are so bad that they're good😉

A girl peered out of the window of a train. Her reflection stared back.

She had grey eyes, unremarkable black hair, and pale skin. Her eyes matched the color of the school uniform that she was wearing.

Behind her reflection was a rainy, dark night that highlighted the glowing city lights in the distance. It was so real that she could almost believe that it was her. So real that she felt like this gloomier, greyer, and overcast person could really be herself.

With what she had been feeling lately, it wasn't too unlikely.

She felt like someone trying to masquerade as herself. She didn't feel like she belonged in her life, nor her body.

Before, her personality had been concocted of multiple shades that overlapped to form her very own self. But now, it was as if the little bits of white and black and everything in between sticking out had begun to show their true colors. They were fighting to consume her, while what reality was supposed to be was overwhelmed and trampled upon.

Her heart was tugged and pulled in all sorts of directions by all sorts of different aspects of herself every day.

She wondered if this was what people called an existential crisis and continued to stare at her reflection.

Deep, doleful eyes stared back.
