Chapter 13 - Helpless

There are many facets to one word. This is one of them.

I watch him.

Ask me what he did any minute, any second, and I'd be able to tell you. I know everything about him and more.

Today I watched him go to school. He's a high school student. He always gets up early, so he can walk to school with earbuds on listening to his favorite lofi music. He carries his old Dell laptop inside a tough, black backpack with his textbooks. His thick glasses are usually cleanly polished and contrast sharply with his dark eyebags. The sidewalk is cracked.

He went to his classes. First period homeroom, second period AP Chemistry, third AP Physics, and fourth French. He wiped off his glasses, and was hit by seagull excrement at lunch. Then it was fifth period US History and sixth English.

After school, he walked home on the same sidewalk. He cried and went to bed. He didn't wake up.

I watched him every day. I knew everything about him and more.

But he didn't know anything about me.
