Chapter 5 - Learning Through Getting Beat Up. Part 2

Lucas lunged forward with unworldly speed. The black dagger seemed to be unbelievably sharp as it sent wind blades surging through the air. Rick found that the urge to jump away overwhelmed his body immensely. But he felt if by doing so he would be his undoing as the wind blades seemed to block off all escape routes but.... down!

Rick quickly ducked down but quickly realized this was the wrong idea as he got a knee to the face. The strike had colossal force attached to it and he was knocked back a few feet before rolling to a stop.

His head throbbed with pain as a lump was already forming on his forehead.

"Don't ever let your guard down. Not even to a hapless drunk." The man named Lucas said coolly.

Marcus looked astounded at the calm and cool Lucas who only seconds ago appeared to be a bumbling drunk.

"Your not drunk.... You know how much of a huge step this is-"

"Cut the crap. You said you had a good seedling and all I see is someone with haphazard reflexes. Though he did pass the test to some degree. He managed to dodge my dagger." Lucas said as a thoughtful look crossed his face.

"Kid, stand up" Lucas said strictly.

Rick found himself in a terrible situation. He felt as if he was seeing double as he slowly bent over and stood up.

'It feels as if a truck had hit me. I don't think I can take another one of those strikes.'

"Now kid.... I need you to dodge another of those attacks. If you can manage to dodge it then you pass my test and can be my apprentice. Simple as that"

"Prepare yourself. You have half a minute to prepare for my attack."

'What the hell am I supposed to do?! You better just kill me.'

"Times up... dodge this." Lucas echoed out before sending a supersonic kick his way.

The kick seemed much faster than before but this time all he had to worry about was where he was going to dodge instead of where he could and couldn't dodge. Rick looked at it from a different perspective. Dodging to the left and right would cause him to remain unscaved while dodging is what he did last time and.... didn't leave him feeling great to say the least.

But going up is a different story. He should be able to counter attack if he jumped out of the way of the attack. He would then still have access to the torso of the thief and able to kick him and make him lose his balance.

With a limber leap up Rick kicked forward towards the face of Lucas. A surprised expression showed on his face before a sickening thwack of the kick landing on Lucas's right cheek.

Lucas found himself being sent backward as he fell to the ground. After what seemed like for ever Marcus began to laugh heartily.

"You- HAHAHA- fell for the oldest trick in the book"

Rick looked seriously at Lucas before helping him up. He was by no means better at combat then Lucas but even the most experienced veteran can make a mistake.

"You overextended." Rick said curtly, the large bump on his head becoming seriously pronounced over the last minute or so.

"He is fit to be my apprentice." Lucas said with a grim smile.
