Chapter 6 - First Job

Lucas nodded to himself in satisfaction as he began looking at the boy in front of him. He wasn't that different from the boy before litherium but now he was a little bit different. He stood quite a bit shorter at only five foot five inches tall and was a lot more thin and limber than before. Though the little amount of mass on his body was primarily muscle and cartilage as he had very little food to create the fat that his body needed.

"Follow me. Gather your things you won't be coming back and say your goodbyes to Marcus." Lucas said.

Rick took in his surroundings one last time as he realized he would leave the place he called home for such a short time. The only real home he had besides before his parents died when he was sixteen.

Marcus was no where to be seen as he had left a short while ago. Most likely to not have to say goodbye. Rick had no possessions other than a small cloth bag with some moldy bread in it that he had thrown out a long time ago.

Rick didn't know what to say as he was leaving but he felt the need to say something just anything really so he did.

"Goodbye Home."

It was simple yet something he felt deep down within him. It was his pain and feelings welled up into a simple few words. Tears streamed down his face as he would be leaving his second and last home for now.

"It's time to go." Lucas said sternly without cadence for the feelings that rick had shown.

They made their way out of the cottage and down a small stone walkway that wound it's way through the forest. It was a beautiful day, the right amount of sun, the right amount of breeze, and the way that the trees shone a vibrant green was enough to make it a great day but the sadness from before ruined it and painted it in a melancholic beauty.

The walk was short yet brisk, it seemed like Lucas moved at a speed that was boggling to others while simple to himself. Rick had to move to keep up with his pace. But the short distance led them to a simple wall stone wall that stretched a few dozen feet into the air. Without saying a single word Lucas climbed the wall quickly and easily

Lucas then turned around before giving him a strange look, then he proceeded to jump down from the wall into the other side.

'How the hell did he scale such a tall wall in under a minute?!'

Rick got to work putting his hands in front of him attempting to climb the impossibly tall wall. He felt something deep inside of him click as if this was completely natural. He felt his hands move without his knowledge and he began to climb at a quick rate. He scaled the wall in what seemed like under 3 minutes. After getting to the top a feeling of fear overcame him that was quickly staunched by this innate power that filled him.

He looked down to see his mentor gently resting on a hay bale dozens of feet below. Rick felt himself lose control and quickly fall downwards before he landed in the large pile of hay unscathed.

Lucas gave out a quick shout as the young boy fell from the top of the wall directly on to him and the pile.

"What the hell are you doing boy!" He shouted.

"How the hell am I supposed to get down after I climb up?!"

"Your supposed to climb down isn't that obvious?!"

"How am I supposed to do that when any misstep could result in me slipping and falling."

"Just like when your climbing up you mean. Any failure could result in a snapped leg or worse but you still have to do it if you want to survive as a thief." Lucas said confidently. "It's impossible otherwise."

Pain shot through Rick as Realization took over. He had sprained his wrist and it hurt... Bad.

"Looks like we will have to get you a healing potion if we don't want to hinder your training.... that seems like a first good job anyways." Lucas said to himself.

"For your first task as a thief you must perform a heist on Grant's Potions and Elixirs. Marcus told me the entire story and I believe him to be a good target for a rooky thief like you."

"He only happens to be a tier 1 mage and you are now a tier 1 thief so you should be strong enough to take him on."

Lucas stood up from the ground and motioned for Rick to follow him.

"But what do you mean! He can cast freaking magic! I can barely climb a wall without getting my wrist sprained." Rick said in reluctance.

"Magic casters are the easiest to take down for us. We are quick and they are slow... most of the time." Lucas said with a thoughtful look on his face.

"He casted the spell in under ten seconds! You say that's slow!"

"Very. We should be able to kill before they react but in this mission there will be no killing. Just knock him out and everything after should be easy. Raid what you can and leave quickly. Follow me or I will leave you behind."

Rick reluctantly followed the mad man as they quickly moved through the busy bustling city. Many guards seemed intrigued in Lucas and went to follow us but we would lose them immediately by drifting into a nearby alley way.

After what seemed like 30 minutes of walking they arrived at the rundown parts of the town, filled with beggars, both young and old.

Lucas abruptly stopped before pulling out a small pouch of silver and lightly tossing it into the crowd of beggars. The group nodded before slowly gathering it up peacefully and slowly moving to the side to reveal a secret passage way. Dug deep into the rocks was a circular hole that had a sharp decline into the depths of the underground.

It was scary looking at the hole that seemed to echo an infinite amount of darkness. Lucas disregarded Ricks fearful stare and passed a single gold coin to a near bye beggar child.

"Pass this on to Mother Moira. Let her know we are coming and light the passage for me and my new apprentice."

The small child smiled and nodded before taking off down the tunnel at a quick speed.

Lights slowly seemed to turn on as the pathway became clear.

"The way is clear. Follow young one." Lucas said to rick before walking slowly into the catacombs of the undercity.
