Chapter 37
" Yes! anything you want,just don't show this to anyone. The career I had built for years could crumble" She pleaded.
I told her the only thing I wanted was for her to cease threatening Damien and that she should grade him fairly according to his abilities.
She agreed and I deleted the recording i had on my phone in her presence,she thanked me and I was about to leave the room with Damien but turned back
" Uhmm... don't think you can go back on your word just because I deleted the recording. You should know that I have sent some copies to my email. Doing anything stupid would only hurt you" I advised.
Her countenance changed from being at ease to being intimidated once again,for some reason I enjoyed making her suffer that way. It was my little way of paying her back for making Damien have sleepless nights and moody appearance.
She promised not to do anything stupid so I left the room with Damien who was still dumbfounded by all that just happened.
" Shall we?" I asked smiling at him.
I love how happy Damien is whenever he paints. He hasn't shown the amount of happiness I saw on his face when he paints to his fill here ever since I've known him.
" I wonder if I could ever make him quit his current job to paint" I thought.
We left of the hotel and I suggested we eat out for dinner,because my worms were ready for world war three within me and I was sure Damien would be as hungry as I am was.
We walked to a fancy restaurant close by,found a convenient spot and then sat down. I was only ashamed and concerned because I was wearing a casual wear to our first date...
.....Well it was a first date for me . I picked up the menu scanning it,carefully trying to pick a meal out of all the amazing dishes they have to offer.
" Can I say something?" Damien asked finally
" Let's talk after we pick a meal " I replied.
We both picked a meal we love and then I said to him
" You can go on"
I noticed he wouldn't stop looking at me ever since we left the hotel room,and staring at me once again in this fancy restaurant made me flustered.
" You could make a hole in my body now just by staring you know?" I finally said. He flapped his eyelids and apologized
" Sorry I was just surprised,I couldn't believe you were the one in the room earlier"
" But first of thank you ,I was actually thinking of doing it my own way ,the way the old me would have done probably by being mean and threatening her and I could have regretted my actions if it goes wrong"
" How did you record our conversations when you weren't even in the room?" He asked.
I cleared my throat and then explained it all to him.
" I'm sorry for reading the message on your phone earlier,it was accidental but thank goodness I did. Actually when I saw it I got the feeling that I just found a lost puzzle because you haven't been yourself for days,you come back home looking stressed and tired and pretty late sometimes.
After pondering on what to do for a while I then got an idea and so I went to the hotel before eight pm ,booked a room next to yours which I got after much hassle.
I payed someone to get the keys to the room you two were to meet and planted the device so I could listen to your discussions from the other room.
After I explained he wouldn't stop smiling and chuckling " Bravo,you should be a detective do you know that?"
I smiled shyly and we continued with our meal . When we were done, I paid for the meal and we head back to the penthouse to prepare for the competition the next day.
Right now I don't pray for anything else than for Damien to win the competition so he would believe more in his abilities and that may influence him not to give up on his dreams.
We got to the penthouse,I went to the room to shower and so did Damien as soon as I finished .
" Why didn't you tell me about your mentor? " I asked after we settled down on the couch with a warm glass of milk on the table.
" I didn't want to trouble you with my issue ,you've done so much for me of which I'm grateful of and so I didn't want you feeling suspicious and nervous everytime I tell you I'm going to practice with her".
" I'm always here if you want to talk about anything,you aren't disturbing me by telling me the things bothering you also I would gladly help you with your troubles " I replied putting on a friendly smile.
Damien stared at me for a while and suddenly moved closer to me ,it was as if time stopped and my heart was about to jump off my chest. I faced him and as if he was waiting for me to do that,he leaned forward to kiss me on the lips,I felt his breath on my skin and it made me shudder. I was determined to go with the flow . I closed my eyes awaiting the moist feeling on my lips but it didn't happen......
I opened my eyes to see Damien heading to the room to sleep.
' Did he just tease me?'I asked myself unable to fathom why he stopped along the way.
I stood from the couch and followed him up the stairs closely from behind.
" I will get what I want from you tonight Damien " I said to myself.
