Chapter 2 - The Girl Who Cried

The growling had scared her – she couldn't see what was growling at her. She was surrounded and she had no way to defend herself. She had her eyes closed and she was crying, tears streamed down her face. It was like someone opened up a water faucet inside of her head. She opened her eyes up again and then looked around and could still hear the growling. She couldn't see anything. Then she noticed something, she was surrounded and what was surrounding her had bright red eyes. Hell hounds? Demons? What were these things? It wasn't like she could just escape. If she had some sort of a weapon, she might be able to fight off whatever was bothering her.

Her name was Amelia and she was an anthromorphic cat. Didn't have to tell you she was female cat. That was kind of obvious. She was standing out in the middle of the street. She looked around. There had to be a place she could hide if she decided to run from these things. Amelia shook her head. "I don't know how I get myself into situations like this." The growling got louder and they were closing in on her, they were getting closer to her. She wasn't going to be some demons lunch. She took a big deep breathe and jumped as high as she could into the air and jumped over the circle she was in and then ran into an alleyway.

She found a steel pipe laying on the ground and she picked it up. A weapon, crude weapon, but a weapon none the less and that meant she could defend herself. She couldn't hear the growling anymore, that didn't mean that they weren't gone. She was hungry and she was on the side of town that had all the grocery stores. Now she didn't know how she got to Chicago or why she was even here. All she knew is that she needed to survive. If she survived she would probably see her family again. She didn't know where they were or if they were even here. It did feel like this place was another world. Did she come from another world? She didn't really know right now. Her stomach began to rumble and that meant she needed to find some place to find some food.

She decided to walk to the nearest grocery store, of course it looked rundown. That was because it was. The front door had been turned off. Lights inside of the store were flickering and the windows had been busted out. Looked like someone had taken a bunch of bricks and a baseball bat to the windows. In the pit of her stomach she knew there wasn't going to be much food in the store. If she could find some canned stuff to eat she could survive. That was until she hit another town. So she hasn't seen anyone else in this town, she assumed that she was alone. She felt like someone was watching her though.

Amelia held onto her steel pipe with dear life. "Whomever is out there. I got a weapon and I'm not afraid to use it!" She was hoping whatever was following her was cowardly. Honestly, she didn't want to get into a fight right now. She was too hungry too fight and if she were to get into a fight right now she'd probably faint or die. Still, there was a grocery store in front of her and it was about time for her to wrestle up some grub. It was probably just going to be ramen noodles or something. Hm, she wondered if she could find running water or a way to heat it up. There was always bottled water or river rater and she knew how to make an fire in the wild. All those years of camping were going to pay off.

She walked into the grocery store and the lights were flickering, it was almost like a bad rave. The lights just needed to be multi-colored and there wasn't some douche bag passing out molly to people. So pretty much it was a boring rave. She laughed to herself as she walked through the store. Everything was picked over and all the canned shit was almost gone. She picked up a bag off of the floor, it was plastic and it looked kinda sturdy. She probably could stuff a few things in there. She grabbed a bunch of canned pasta and threw it in the bag and then she rounded a corner and there was a backpack on the floor and it was filled with food. It looked like someone was trying to get out of the grocery store as soon as possible. Maybe monsters had attacked the store, maybe what had surrounded her outside also surrounded somebody else. She also knew she needed to find a real weapon, this pipe wasn't going to do much good. It did give her a sense of protection for a little bit. She looked up at the ceiling and saw one of the surveillance cameras and she wondered if those still worked and if they did it could show her what had been in here. Honestly, she wouldn't know where to go to find the control room for the cameras anyways. It was a good idea for a moment. She continued to go through the grocery store.

She went through the deli and the meat departments and all of it looked like shit. She could smell the rotting meat and could see some flies buzzing around it. She was thinking about going to the next town to get some more supplies. She walked back to the front of the store and she could hear someone or something outside. She was hopping that it was just an animal and not another person. She didn't want to deal with people and with all of this food she had, they would probably try to steal it. She walked out of the grocery store and looked around. There was nobody around, good.
