Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: Deceiving Oneself

Silence surrounded the room after he uttered those words to her.

Jane could feel that Edric was pissed of something.

At the same time, Jane was too occupied with what was happening inside her body. Her stomach was aching and felt like the air temperature was so cold for her to handle.

Edric remained to be indifferent while he looked at Jane who was covered with sweat and panting a little.

Though he wanted to deny it, regret grew deep inside him for what he had done. He wanted to stand up yet he was glued on his seat.

"I'm sorry if I'm late." Jane uttered weakly.

Edric watched as Jane tried to be calm and composed right in front of him. But deep down, he knew that it took her all the courage to stop herself from lashing at him.

Even inside her mind, she was self-talking. 'Calm down. Getting mad won't solve the problem if you'll get angry to him.'

That's what he heard from her.

Little did he know she was only trying to distract her mind from telling the real truth.

Her inner self-talk was her layer of protection she had slowly established for him to not see what was really inside her mind.

At the same time, she was trying to calm herself to not lash out at him because the more her emotions skyrocketed, the more she couldn't control her thoughts and the last thing she wanted to do was revealing herself to him.

If this battle was a mind game, she didn't want to lose to him.

There's no way she would not think about it. Thus, she decided to do this the last minute.

If she could not keep her mind to be silent, it's better to think unrelated things just to divert herself from thinking about him.

Acting passive towards him might help in her situation, right?

Meanwhile, Edric looked at Jane. He looked at her paled lips, sweaty face and then he recalled hearing sound of someone's gagging outside. It was probably her.

Guilt slowly rose on Edric's heart.

"It's fine. Do have a seat." His instant change in behavior puzzled Jane.

When she entered, he was ready to devour her with those gazes yet his face changed immediately and was now acting friendly and all.

Jane sat down on the chair near the mini-table and looked at him.

"Why did you call me in a hurry? What's the emergency?"

"Nothing. I just want to have lunch with you that's all."

Wow! His reason was so childish.

"Oh! But I have already eaten lunch."

"But you threw up in the trash can outside. Now you have to eat."

Oh gosh! Was he trying to anger her?

Edric then grabbed something below his table and placed it on top. It was probably a lunch box wrapped in green cloth.

'Violets are blue, roses are red, when pigs fly the unicorns say goodbye.'

While she was thinking those words in her head. Edric seemed to ignore her and continued.

"Phil insisted on cooking lunch for me. He prepared many so I thought inviting my wife for lunch won't be a big deal right?"

It's never a big deal if you invited her properly. Yet you made her ran like in a hundred meter dash.

"Thank you. But I'm fine. I still have a class to attend to at one o'clock."

Edric's gaze turned cold when he saw her stubborn reaction. To add it up, he could not read what's on her mind.

Unless the topic or the subject inside her thoughts was his, he couldn't read her mind.

'Seems like she had subconsciously found a loophole to it.' He thought.

Jane could read what was on his mind as long as he allowed her to. As long as he allowed her in. Or when they were having an open conversation and continue it inside their minds.

That was what he discovered.

And she was using this to him now.

"Just eat a little. You'd still make it in time."

But she couldn't. She didn't have the appetite to eat after throwing up earlier. She's nauseous.

She's afraid she would just throw up again after she took a bite or two.

She didn't know that Edric misunderstood her reaction and so he got up and carried the lunch box and dumped it on the trash can inside his office.

This shocked Jane thus she felt like asking him.

She had not even recovered from the shock when Edric said, "Leave. I still have to prepare for my class later."

Jane's eyes were still on the lunch box inside his trash can.

Jane got up and grabbed her bag as she went out of her room.

She was really pissed off by what he did. He was so childish.

When she reached the hallway, she heard the students talking about Stephanie and their family.

But she didn't care at all. She wanted to stay away from him as far as she could.

Meanwhile, inside the office, Edric was broke everything that was in his office because of his anger.

Even Edward had to show up to calm him down.

"Master! Calm down! This is so not you!"

"How can I calm down? She's too much!" Edric spat at him.

"I'm sorry Master but your actions towards her is too much, too. What you're doing is not how to woo a woman."

Edward tried his best to give a piece of advice to his Master who seemed to be still clueless.

"What the h*ll are you talking about? She's my wife!" Edric was frowning.

She's his wife. Therefore, he had rights over her. He didn't have to woo her. She's already his.

"But that's only on paper." Edric's gaze turned cold while looking at Edward when the latter pointed it out.

"What is it that you want from her Master? You won't know how to approach her unless you yourself know what you wanted from her."

"All I want is to get close to her yet she is always pushing me away. Avoiding me every time."

"Master, by chance, do you have feelings for her?" Edward's question threw him off guard.

He didn't have an answer to it.

This earned an inward smirk from Edward. He had been with Edric since time immemorial thus he was confident he could read his mood.

He knew him more than anyone else. They both shared secrets that only him and Edric knew of.

"Honestly, you are acting like a jealous teen ager right now." Edward pointed out.

"Of course not! She's after all my wife. Isn't it normal to get close to her?" Edric felt like he had nothing to explain to Edward at all.

"Okay. You have said it yourself. But I think you wanted to get close to her to know if you can fall for her, am I right? In fact, this sham marriage happened because of that or do you have any other reason?"

What he said made Edric to be silent. He didn't have to elaborate it because his intentions were pretty obvious to his people.

Edward was not afraid to talk to Edric. After all, he only wanted to help Edric to realize things.

If he'd snap at him and decided to end his existence for good, he would accept it. After all it was Edric who created his existence.

Edward sighed as he looked at his Master who was like a lost child.

Sometimes, it's better for the person to realize things himself than pointing at the obvious immediately.

The room had dropped down to a couple of degrees celicious lower than the coldest temperature the air conditioner could cool down the room.

The room seemed to be in a blizzard.

Yet, Edward ignored that and continued giving his insights.

"The first thing you should do is to control your temper. Let the Young Madam to make friends to whoever she wanted to be friends with. I have been watching them and I can tell that Young Madam only treated Jake as a friend. If you'll prohibit her to do that, she'd be very disappointed at you and would think that you're very controlling."

Edric remained silent so Edward continued, "She probably has a reason why she's been like that to you and it's for you to find out. If you really want to get close to her, try to be more sensitive when approaching her. Consider her feelings, too."

"She's already legally bound to you as her husband. But don't be too overbearing. Be the gentleman that every woman loves to have as their lover. Don't ignore her. She had agreed to this sham marriage because you had instilled in her mind that this is purely nominal. But I don't think that's really what you wanted, Master. And so make her change that belief to gain the end result that you wanted."

After thinking those things, Edric finally broke his silence.

"Seems like you have gain the confidence to talk back to me."

"Apologies Master, I'm just stating my opinions Master. It's up to you on how to take it whether constructively or be offended."

Before Edric could lash at him, Edward flicked his fingers and the messy room went back to its original form.

"You have been watching over her Master. Longer than what everyone and Young Madam thought. I didn't make a comment on it because it's your choice. But think about what I have said Master. Very carefully." With that, Edward disappeared in the room leaving Edric in a daze for the first time.

Edward exhaled deeply as he fixed his jacket and the imaginary crease on his clothes.

He was not able to be angry to Edward because all that the latter said were true.

She had met Jane earlier than what everyone thought was their first encounter.

He was unsure if Jane could still remember their very first encounter.
