Chapter 29 - Slaughterhouse

Leo walked forward and looked at all of the tools available for him to use. On a small table in front of the hooks, he dragged his hand along deciding on something. His hand paused on a long butcher's knife.

Leo lifted it up a few times to get used to its weight. The other two watched him with Faust making a worried face and Evelyn an aggravated face. Leo ignored them and began swing the knife slightly.

"I'm helping." Evelyn spoke suddenly.

Leo glanced at out of the corner of his eye, "I'd prefer if you stayed with Faust, he's still hurt."

"Well, I don't care what you prefer."

"Actually, I'd like you to stay with me too, I'm not doing too well." Faust replied with a slight groan.

Evelyn stared at him in contempt and scoffed, "Fine. Whatever."

"Alright, good. You two either find a way out or hide somewhere, either is fine, but I'd prefer you to hide. You don't have a gun Evelyn and Faust, you need to rest, so I don't really want you two to stumble into anybody if you leave." Leo responded.

As Leo said that he started making his way to the door. He opened it and the two people standing guard looked at him. They didn't react at first and instead did a double take. When they finally noticed, one had their heads was in the air, and the other, they had a knife in their jugular.

They fell to the floor and Leo stepped fully out of the room. It seemed like he was in a large hall, there were various conveyor belts ground and hook trolley system on the ceiling. Both had meat still being put through the system.

Leo looked back at the gross floor and up again.

"There is no way this place meets health standards…" He mumbled as he started walking forward.

He made it to the hooks and walked along it, casually hiding his figure behind the hanging meats. As he walked along, he saw a few figures at the end of the line, talking to each other.

Leo watched them in silence and the group eventually split up, some of them were guards and they started walking towards Leo, most likely to check up on the two Leo had killed earlier. The others were workers and they started inspecting the meat.

As the guards walked by Leo had crammed himself between the meats. When they reached Leo, he quickly swung the knife a killing a guard instantly. Leo leapt forward and swung at another, cutting their arm heavily.

They managed to retreat, and Leo pushed forward aggressively. He didn't give them a second to breath or think. The guards further back in the ground managed to pull out their handguns and they took aim. Leo grabbed a dead body and kicked it towards the men with the guns.

Leo ran in between the group putting them all in the crossfire and he began hacking away. Eventually a guard fired despite the possibility of hitting a friendly and they grazed Leo's back and hit another guard in the stomach.

Leo stumbled slightly but steeled himself and pushed forward, cutting more guards and killing them. As the round echoed in the building, guards started arriving in droves. Leo saw this but luckily most didn't seem to have guns, only knives or bats.

Leo grabbed the last guard from earlier and thrusted the knife deep into their abdomen and twisted it out the side. The man fell to the ground and Leo quickly took cover by the meats as bullets started being shot into his direction. Leo reached out and grabbed one of the handguns from the ground and checked the ammo count.

It only had nine round rounds and he rested his back against the long line of meat. Leo did a quick prayer to nobody in particular and stuck his head out, quickly scanning the room for the men with guns. He was unsure of how many there were in total, but he did see that at least five had guns. A round quickly whizzed his way as he pulled his head back.

He exhaled and started running behind the meats on the other side. Randomly he would stop and squeeze his gun through the hanging carcasses and fire a round at someone with a gun. He did this three times and hit all three of his targets. Eventually though, he reached the end of the line and crouched down.

Looking to his side, he noticed a worker hiding behind a conveyor belt.

"Yo." Leo said slightly towards them before looking back at the rest of the room where the guards were.

The worker looked at Leo before slowly reaching towards a cleaver on the table. They grabbed it and crept over to Leo as quietly as they could. They raised the cleaver and swung it down.

Leo turned around to check if any guards were flanking when he noticed a large knife being swung towards his shoulder. Leo quickly pushed himself away with his legs, but the knife still grazed his arms. As Leo slid along the ground he fired a round into the worker's head, killing them.

Leo sighed and looked down at his arm, finding it bleeding slowly. He put his gun down for a moment and inspected the wound. It was clean and Leo finally remembered that he was practically naked. He dragged the worker over to him and took off their shirt, pants, and shoes. He quickly put them all on while listening for anyone advancing. Once he got them on, he picked up his gun again.

"Five rounds." He thought quietly to himself as he looked back towards the rest of the group. From his knowledge, there were two more guards with guns, with there being a possibility of there being more.

Leo looked out and found a guard with a gun. He aimed and was about to fire a round when a round shattered some tile next to him. Leo flinched and went back into cover. After thinking for a moment, Leo went back down the line of meat and found a random spot to peak out from.

He did so and took measure of the enemy's composition and layout. There were two sets of conveyor belts between them and Leo, one was exceptionally close to Leo, and luckily too, otherwise his legs probably would've been blown off by now. The other was where the majority of their forces hid. The minority hid in the other room and could be seen looking out of the door every now and then.

By Leo's count there were about fifteen guards. Leo sighed and peaked out from the meat again, quickly identifying a guard and firing a round at them. He struck their temple with a bullet and they collapsed.

One more gunman left.

"Leo!" Leo suddenly heard his real name being yelled by someone with a thick accent.

Leo sighed and mumbled, "Great, now I gotta kill everyone."

"Leo! I'm going to fucking kill you!"

Leo remained silent and walked along the meats once more. He slightly separated them and looked out. The last known gunman was on the other side of the hall and Montague seemed to be in the other room. Leo slowly walked back from where he came and took aim at the last man. He pulled the trigger and hit them in the chest.

They collapsed on the ground and started convulsing slightly, struggling to breath as blood slowly rose out of their mouth.

Leo picked up the long knife he was using earlier and stood up straight. He went to the approximate middle of the carcasses and took a deep breath. He shoved them aside, revealing himself to the rest of the men.

Internally Leo was once more praying to nobody in particular as he thought, "Please, please, please have nobody else in here who knows how to shoot a gun."

Its not like when you kill a gunman that the gun evaporates. Others can still pick them up and use them. All Leo was hoping for was some operator error and some perhaps accidental shots fired at friends. A little grim, but Leo also didn't particularly want to die here.

As he revealed himself, the two sides looked at each other. Leo's heart raced as he waited for their reaction. He was incredibly relieved when instead they didn't have any guns and just rushed him with their knives and bats. Okay, maybe relieved was a strong word considering there were still fifteen of them.

Then Montague ran into the room and had a gun aimed towards Leo.

Okay, now he wasn't relieved at all anymore.

Leo turned around and immediately ran away. He ran along the wall looking for any rooms he could enter. He reached one and swung it open. He ran in and immediately disappeared from sight. He slammed the door shut, a loud noise echoing in the room.

As the others opened the door and ran in, they found tons of hanging meat and large drains on the ground. The animals on the hooks had their slits cut open and they had all bled out almost completely. The men spread out and started looking for Leo. They pushed the bodies apart and blood would spill onto the floor.

BAM!

A loud noised echoed in the small room deafening nearly everyone momentarily. The others looked towards the source of the noise and saw Montague standing there after firing his gun.

"Did ya' get 'im boss?" One of his men asked.

"No, one of pigs was still alive. Scared shit out of me." Montague said as he took deep breaths to calm his heart. To the left of him was a pig that had a fresh bullet hole in its head.

They continued looking throughout the room, but they came up with nothing. They all started grouping back up and discussing where Leo could've gone. It was a room that only had one entrance and exit. Then one of the men just so happened to look at the floor.

That's when they noticed a small grate on the floor. They separated from the group and walked towards it. They noticed all the small drains on the floor led to this portion of the floor.

As they reached the grate they nearly gagged from the smell and saw what was in this chamber. In the floor there was a vat in the floor, and it was filled with blood. He got closer to the grate and looked inside, drawing the eyesight of his fellow gang members. They walked over to him and asked what he noticed. He simply pointed down and they all saw it.

The only place someone could be hiding was in the vat of blood built into the floor.

"Oh, please, gods no." Montague muttered.
