Chereads / The Legend of the Fox Demon / Chapter 35 - A Glass Window

Chapter 35 - A Glass Window

"Baby, please, just give me another chance!"

"What? So, you can sleep with someone else again?! Get the fuck out of here, Trevor!"

"Come on! It was a mistake this time! I didn't mean it! I hadn't seen her since high school, and I just got caught up in my feelings!"

A couple that had just broken up were arguing on a sidewalk outside of their apartment. As they argued, they could hear blaring police sirens. They, however, were very used to that in Riftmoor.

"What about my feelings?! You never think about anyone except for yourself! And even then, you only think with your dick! Why don't you grow a pair and act responsible for once in your miserable life!"

"I said I was sorry! We were just getting drinks and one thing led to another!"

The sirens were getting louder and now they could hear some rock and roll music as well.

"I don't care Trevor! One time, I might understand, but seven?! For the next chick you decide to fuck over, learn to put a password on your phone!"

"I- I'm not even doing anything with them! We're just friends!"

"Yeah, friends who just have sex every time you see each other! Seriously, fuck off Trevor! You're not getting back into the apartment; you can catch your shit when it's thrown out the goddamn window!"

"Calm down! You're overreacting! You always do this!"

"If you even begin to gaslight me, I'm just going to break your shit with a hammer, then throw it out a window!"

The sirens and music were now extremely close.

"You're not throwing my stuff out a window! I always knew you'd do something like this, you're fucking crazy!"

"I think my reaction is perfectly justified you bag of dicks!"

"You aren't throwing my stuff out a window!" He began walking towards her.

A swift kick to his family jewels put him to an immediate stop. He clutched his crotch and stumbled backwards while groaning.

"You goddamn b-"

He was cut off as he was hit by the source of the incredibly loud music. He was only hit in the side, and he landed on the sidewalk. He groaned from the ground with broken bones and heavily scraped skin.

Police cars then whizzed by the two with their sirens lighting up the whole neighborhood and making everyone wake from their sleep. Whenever the girl thought the police cars would end, more and more showed up. Then when they stopped, black vans were also following after then.

After nearly a minute of cars racing by, the woman blinked in a slight daze and turned towards Trevor to make sure he wasn't dead.

"C-call an ambulance."

"Oh, you didn't die. Shame." She turned around and entered the building.

"Ugh…" Trevor began crawling towards the building only to find the entrance locked.

"Did you just hit somebody?!" Luke asked with a worried expression.

"Someone pushed them into the street." Both Andrew and Faust said at the same time.

"Wait, how'd you see that?" Andrew asked.

Faust replied with only a smile as he sharply turned into an alleyway. Those in the car were tossed around but they were all sane enough to buckle up. Quite a few cops drove past the alleyway before some sloppily made the turn.

Leo had also seen the person getting shoved into the road, but he didn't care enough to answer Luke. He was instead reloading the gun's magazines with the special ammo Andrew was making. Andrew was absolutely tired, but a bit of rest when the cops weren't chasing them gave him slight boost in energy.

They only had Andrew's assault rifle and handguns so if they needed to use them, they wouldn't have much versatility.

Faust turned and zipped down another alleyway and very few cop cars were now following from behind. Faust noticed that there were also vans following them and his eyes narrowed slightly. As he came out of the alley, there were cops trying to pincer him on both angles.

Faust's mind was doing rapid calculations and he pulled his handbrake. When he did, he turned his steering wheel and spun between a small gap between the cop cars. When he did so, the car was backwards, facing the same direction as the police cars that were trying to pincer him.

When Faust did so, everybody either grabbed their seatbelt or the handles on the car roof. They all exclaimed in one way or another and it even caused Junior to wake up. Faust quickly whipped the car back around and kept driving.

As he did so, Leo grabbed his mouth and clamped it shut. He quickly rolled down the window and let out some barf.

"Never… do… that… again…" Leo wheezed out.

"I never took you for someone who'd throw up from something like that." Faust said as he looked into the rearview mirror at Leo.

"I'm allowed to not be used to something." Leo said weakly as he leaned back in his seat, he looked almost as if he was melting.

"Fair enough."

They continued speeding down the road and kept producing tricks to throw off the police and the black vans. Every time he did so, he received the ire of Leo. But eventually he found a neat little spot as he whittled down the cops and hid there. He turned off the car and they all leaned down in their seats.

They all sat quietly and waited for all the sirens to slowly die out. Once they did, Faust leaned up and spoke, "Okay, we need a new car. They've identified the car, we won't make it anywhere in this one anymore."

"Who's gonna get another one?" Luke asked.

"Well, I can't drive so, not it." Luke said while touching his nose.

"I can't drive either." Leo shrugged.

"Well, they probably know it's me, so Andrew, go steal- borrow. Go borrow another car." Faust said with a smile.

"What do you mean they probably know it's you?" Andrew asked.

"Trust me, there are plenty of people in this city who the cops personally know and find annoying." Leo answered for Faust while regaining his composure from the crazy driving.

"And that means?" Andrew asked.

"That this city is filled with crazy people." Faust replied.

"Wouldn't that make you a crazy person?" Luke asked with an unimpressed face.

Faust's face froze slightly, and he blinked.

"Alright, alright, hurry up and kidnap me. I know I've got all day, but its tiring." Junior requested with a roll of his eyes.

"Fine." Andrew said he hopped out of the car and began walking out of the alleyway with his head down. Reaching the street, he looked out and watched for any officers. Seeing none he began searching for a car.

He got to one and walked over to the passenger side window. He punched it in the center with his fist. The result was him holding his wrist in pain as the glass proudly stood in one piece.

"Ah, fuck you! What're you even made out of?!" Andrew quietly yelled as he held his hand.

He took a moment for his hand to hurt less, and he hit the window once more. Again, it didn't break, and Andrew's hand was seriously in pain. Andrew looked at the glass with a flabbergasted face.

He let go of his hand and went digging through his pocket for his phone. He lifted it up and began to search for how to break a window. Surprisingly, a lot of the results were for being as quiet as possible when doing so.

"Are burglars so common that that would be the first result?" He muttered with a dumbstruck face. He began to read the article and discovered that he should hit the edges of the window as the center was the strongest point.

It said to use a blunt object, but he didn't really have one, so he did it with his hand. Thinking the glass might cut him, he took off his shirt and wrapped his fist in it. He took aim at the bottom of the window, near the corner and struck.

The glass didn't break, and he clutched his hand once more.

While sitting in the car, everyone heard a muffled, "Fuck!"

"Anybody gonna help him?" Faust asked while turning around towards everyone else.

"Sur-" Leo said before getting interrupted.

"Hey, I mean, he was kinda a dick for an entire month to all three of us." Luke said while placing his arm on Leo's shoulder.

Leo looked at him for a moment while thinking and eventually sat back down. Leo looked out of the window while thinking silently, he studied the brick walls of the alley in boredom.

"Alright. Alright." Andrew muttered as he took a step back. He shook the hand drenched in pain in an attempt to alleviate some of it. He stood opposite of the window and stared it down as it was his mortal enemy.

"Okay. Okay, you got this." He said psyching himself up.

He pulled his hand back and sent it forward. A loud thumb rang out as the top of the car door dented. Andrew had just missed the window and hit the metal underneath it instead. He grabbed his hand once more and started muttering curses like a madman.

Without giving himself anytime to recover he just quickly decided to hit the glass until it broke. Luckily it shattered on the next hit. Unluckily however, he didn't wrap his wrist up in his shirt.

Another loud curse was heard from the car and Leo finally shook his head and stepped out of the car. He walked out of the alley only to see Andrew clutching his wrist and blood splattering on the floor.

"Oh, good god." Leo said as he ran forward. He ran up to Andrew and got his attention. After making sure he wouldn't get clocked by a panicking Andrew, Leo took a look at the cut. Luckily it was that long or deep and he took Andrew's shirt and tightly wrapped it around his wrist.

"Why didn't you just break it with a brick or something?!" Leo asked in a low, yet loud voice.

"I don't know! Hindsight is twenty-twenty!"

"That isn't applicable here!" Leo scolded as he slung Andrew over his shoulder and walked him back to the car in the Alley.

Seeing the two of them, Luke and Faust both sighed.

"Faust, go get the car, the window is already broken." Leo said with a slight shake of his head.

"Alright." Faust hopped out of the car and Leo sat Andrew in his seat. The now shirtless Andrew groaned any time his wrist moved.

"Just send some of your mana to your wrist and speed up your regeneration." Leo spoke.

"I would if I had any left." Andrew chuckled hollowly.

"Don't be such a drama queen. Your hand will regenerate naturally, I'm just saying any mana you get back just send to your wrist."

"Alright." Andrew said with a sigh and a nod.

Then bright headlights flooded the alley. Leo looked over and saw the car driving slowly over to them. He stepped out of the way as Faust stopped.

"Alright, everybody hop in."

Leo helped Andrew into the car and Luke went over to Avery.

"Come on buddy, let's go see the world!" Luke said sarcastically as he dragged Avery to the car. Once more Avery was made to sit in the seat of glass. This time however, Faust grabbed a napkin that happened to be in the glove compartment and cleaned the seat off a bit.

Couldn't have your target die of bleeding out, especially not from their butt.

They all sat in the car that was slightly roomier and Faust began driving away. They exited the alleyway and got back onto the road. They all sat slightly lowered to obscure their figures and Leo was holding Avery from behind to prevent him from touching the steering wheel.

"Oh shit, it's almost five." Faust muttered as he looked over at the clock. He almost turned on the radio but decided against it, that's when he noticed the time.

"And?" Luke asked while looking at Faust.

"Nothing, I'm just surprised, time flies I suppose."

The car remained silent as they headed towards the city's center. Their drop off point was slightly high profile, just to make the mission just that little bit harder. The people of the city were beginning to awaken as well, and traffic was getting heavier.

Faust came to a stop at an intersection. He looked across the road to his left and right. To each side respectively, he saw a black van and a police car. He slightly slid down in his seat.

"Heads up." Faust mumbled to the rest of the car.

The light went green, and Faust started driving forward. Then he noticed the black van speeding into the intersection towards their car. Without enough acceleration to escape it, they happened to get hit and their car went sliding away.

Andrew looked out of the window and noticed men getting out of the black van. To his right, he heard the police siren go off, but he kept his eyes trained on the men. While the others were still stirring in the car, especially Leo, he grabbed his gun and fired at them without hesitation.
