Chapter 2 - Make Lies

"... that's it for today, you may take your leave" our teacher started to tidy her files and guide books on the table.

After hours of listening to our boring teacher, the class already ended. The noises from the busy students lurk inside our class, sounds from the chairs screeching whenever they move it back and forth, busy footsteps, but most of them came from the student's chattering.

I was about to go home earlier when our teacher called me and asked me if I can escort our new classmate—Vanessa for a little tour around our school. Of course, at first, I declined. I never really wanted to associate myself with her. I'd tried asking Rena as my replacement but unfortunately, she has student council duty, so there was no choice left to me but to accompany Vanessa.

"You don't have to force yourself..." Vanessa said with a straight face. "I know you don't like me, you can just leave... I can handle myself" she coldly added as she walked straight through the building's corridor.

As if I can just leave my responsibilities away...

I grabbed my bag and wore it, hurriedly walked past her. "Yeah, I don't like you. I really don't, but I was asked by the teacher so it's my responsibility if something happens to you" I annoyingly said with my eyes straight on the front without looking back at her.

She didn't say another word instead she followed me in the direction to the gym hall.

There was nothing special in our school, it was just looked like a normal school designated for high school students. If I were to say, our school was filled with rectangles, rectangular buildings, rectangular facilities, rectangular gym hall, rectangular field, and rectangular pools. Other than that, there was no interesting place in our school.

Our journey was quite dull. She was right behind me, kept her mouth shut as she reading the small book from earlier while we were walking. She wasn't even bothered to look at the building and facilities in our school. In other words, she just uses me as a blind cane to keep her away from bumping into someone.

That scenario was just continued until a sharp-colored light met my eyes. The sky already turned yellow-red and the sun was about to set. Our class ended at five o'clock but I never thought we had reached the sunset just by looking around. Mostly because I'd just kept blabbering to myself.

"Are you finish?" a monotonous voice came from my back, Vanessa narrowed her eyes as she noticed that I'd stopped walking and blabbering. "If that so... I'll take my leave, thank you for today," she said and walked in a different direction.

I'd watched her disappeared into my eyes.

There was something to her that really annoys me...

First of all, I don't really meddle myself with other people's business, if possible, if there was a chance I kept myself away from that situation. Whenever there was a person who told me his or her true feelings or open up their problems to me, I always wondered.

Why are you telling me that? Why are you relying on me to pull yourself out of your problems?...

I don't understand because I haven't experienced it yet, but there was something I realized after thinking this thing...

All this time I was playing safe in this life... I don't need anything and I don't need anyone... that was all I have to remember and with that, I can survive in this painful world... however by doing that, it makes me sad and lonely.

"But, I don't have a plan to change it" I muttered.

After I put my shoes in the corner of the entryway, I headed to my room and throw my body on top of my bed. I'd didn't even bothered to change my clothes besides I could do it later, I'd took out my phone and started to browse on social media just to entertain myself but I found nothing and threw it on my bed.

"...Boring" I muttered.

The house was so quiet. It was a two-story house however, only I and my little sister were living here. After our parents divorced, they lived with their other family leaving me and my sister alone in our old house, but once a month they visited us just to give our monthly allowance.

I glance at the door as I heard a couple of footsteps, my sister came in on my room hugging a white pillow. My sister was in middle school but she was the one who cooked and cleans our house.

"Are you gonna lazing around again, Big sister?" she scolded me. "there's no food for dinner go buy some at the convenience store" she said then went out of my room.

Instead of standing and went out of my room to buy some food, I stayed in my room, lying down on my bed with both of my feet leaned on the wall. Looking upon the fluorescent lamp that gave my room light, I squinted.

Too bright...

The moment after, the squint turned to closed eyes. I'd really felt sleepy, but I need to go to the convenience store...

I'd woke up after I felt something hit on my face, my sister was standing right beside me holding the pillow like a baseball bat.

"Big sister!" she yelled after she found out that I dozed off again.

It was a cold night and the street was so quiet. Gladly, the street was lightened by the street lights preventing me to be scared. Looking at my right side, I saw a cat on top of the brick fence, I walked towards it and reached my hands but the cat immediately reacted and jump to the other side of the fence. I was about to continue my step as I heard a couple of laughter, on the other side of the window there was a family eating dinner together. I was stunned and turned my gaze down as I proceed to walk through the cold street.

I wished I have my jacket with me...

"That will be 300... thank you for your patronage!"

I walked out of the convenience store holding a place bag after I bought some food. The cold wind blows made my spine chilled, I'd just rubbed both my shoulders to made my body warm.

As I took a few steps, something caught my eyes. A black car was parked on the other side of the street. I was surprised as I saw someone came out from the front seat of the car, it was Vanessa.

However, after a few seconds, I got back from myself as I assumed that she was a rich girl based on her attitude and the clear evidence in front of me. After her, there was also a middle-aged man wearing a black suit who came out of the car, my eyes widened as I witness that man kissed Vanessa on her lips.

I immediately turned away my gaze and walk fast to the street. For the first time, I felt something strange in me.

This kind of thing... it's rather interesting...
