Chapter 5 - Lack of feelings

"No, I just looking for someone... sorry for the late introduction, I'm Morales, the teacher of Vanessa from her previous school. I'd just looking for her to ask something"

What was he doing here? Not that I care but it might cause some trouble for Vanessa if she knew that he was here. What am I saying anyway?

For a moment, Mister Morales and our adviser talk to each other outside our room, I could clearly see them since my seat wasn't that far away from the door. Looking at them intently I sensed a pair of eyes gazing at me, I shifted my eyes to it only to see Rena's face closely looking at me with her brows furrowed.

I flinched and instinctively pulled back my face from her. Too close, if I shifted my face to her in a sheer speed, I'm sure our lips had bumped to each other. "Wh-what!?"

She brought her face and sat pretty on her chair that was facing towards my table "What's with that face of you?"

"Is there something wrong in my face, Miss?"

"Ah sorry, I mean what's with that look with? as if you were trying to stab those two with your glare" pointing Mister Morales and our adviser with her eyes and eyebrows.

I scratched my chin as I laughed awkwardly "It's nothing, don't mind it. More importantly, you should fix your chair already, our adviser is here, and as a member of the student committee, you shouldn't be a bad example for other students" changing our topic.

But instead of fixing her chair back in its original position, she lay down her arms on my table as well as her head over her elbow. "Lately, I felt like you always shrugged me off. Every time I asked you, you always answered with 'It's nothing, don't mind it' or 'It's none of your business... it seems like you found another best friend other than me." she complained as he buried her face between her arms like a child throwing a mild tantrum.

"Ah! wa-wait... it's not like that!" I shook my hands in surprise.

Without knowing what to do, I calm myself with a breath and decided to put my hand over his head and gently stroke her hair. I remember doing this to her a long time ago but I couldn't remember when. She always acted like a big sister to me but whenever she showed this side to me, I wonder who was the big sister between us.

"Here, here... I'm sorry, I wish I can tell you about this thing but it wasn't only about me, it involves another party so I couldn't just tell it to you without the other people's consent" continued stroking her hair until she peeked at me.

You're the secretary of the student council, right? so go back from being Secretary Rena, I thought.

"Oh right!" I said as a memory crossed my mind "Remember the cafe you told me about before? if you don't have a student committee meeting, let's go there... of course not my treat" I added and grinned at her.

Finally, I felt her head moved thus I took my hand off her. Looking at me she chuckled "Yeah, let's go there" short reply but I was sure she was excited about it. In my case, I wasn't particularly into it, I'd just felt guilty since I'd unintentionally acted cold to her lately.

After more talks and chatters, our adviser came into our class, and Rena fixed his seat back on its original position. I took my one last glance at the door where Mister Morales stood earlier. Unfortunately, he wasn't there anymore, or should I say, fortunately? well anyway, I don't want to stick my nose in other people's business.

"Especially her..."

The class ended and as usual, the noises from the students rose inside and out of the class once more. I was still in my seat, quietly watching our classmates cheerfully talked to their circle.

"They're still hadn't talked to our other classmates" I mumbled as I continued spectating them. Well, I guess it was awkward to talk to another circle of friends and it was also awkward to your friends.

As I watching at them, my eyes shifted to Vanessa's seat who's apparently hadn't attended the afternoon classes. Probably, at the moment, she was with her former teacher flirting around the street.

Geez, does she knows that she's dating a middle-aged man? not only that, he's her former teacher. I thought she's the daughter of some rich family since she acted so arrogantly, but now it seems like she's just a delinquent. I thought as I'd toyed the strands of my hair around my index finger.

In the meantime, I was waiting for Rena who was on her errands. She told me earlier that she'll ask for permission to go home early to the SC President, in other words, to Julius. But it seems Julius doesn't want her to leave early given by how long I waited here for her.

"Probably, those two were flirting too..." I unconsciously muttered and immediately slapped my cheeks as I realized what I say. Rena is my friend, what am I saying!

Struggling in my mind, I heard a familiar voice at my back, I thought it was Rena but as I shifted my glance to it I saw Vanessa stood there with her bookbag on.

"Did you already lost your mind and started to hurt yourself?" she asked with a dubious face, I realized that my hands were still on my cheeks and swiftly took it out.

"WHY are you here?" emphasizing my words with a bit irritated voice. Personally, I hadn't thought that I'll saw her face again today. Well great! now I lost my mood to go eat a strawberry shortcake. Wait where did strawberry shortcake come from?

"Am I not allowed in my own class?" there goes her monotone voice again.

"Of course!" I bluntly shouted and immediately shrunk in embarrassment but nothing's to be embarrassed about since we were the only ones left in the classroom. "...you're allowed"

Most likely, I hadn't noticed that they were all left because of my contemplation earlier.

"Then nothing's wrong..." she said and sat on the vacant seat next to mine.

A sense of awkwardness rose within me. Looking at her she wasn't in her usual arrogant attitude. If I were to say, even the tone of her voice and her facial expression was the same as her usual, her actions were quite different.

Instead of going straight home after the class ended, she chose to sit right next to me. Not to mention that she hadn't attended the afternoon class. The book that she always held was currently nowhere to be found.

'Why in the hell is she here if she skipped our class earlier? she should have gone to the teacher's office and asked for forgiveness, rather than staying here with mβ€” I mean rather than lazing here in the room'

"What a weird girl..." I mumbled and flinched after I heard her called me.

"Hey..." she called with her right hand on her chin and her elbow on the table. Intently looking at me, she opened her mouth and asked " ...Do you like me?"
