Chapter 14 - Art of Magic

"Then how does one form their magic core, and how does one form spells?" asked Acheron.

"Forming a magic core in a humanoid body first requires a magus technique. It is very similar to cultivation techniques, though much more simple and primal, in the sense that to form a magic core one has to use environmental energy.

As you should have already guessed, the magic core power system is the most primordial of power systems. The downsides of this system are its difficulty to progress, usualy requiring much greater amounts of time than the cultivator path.

As for the upsides, it is that it does not go against the universal law, meaning you will require to go through less tribulations. Amazingly enough, those who pursue purely the magic core path are usually much luckier than those who pursue both or neither.

The core formed is filled with impurities at first. They are called deviant energies. What we want to do is constantly refine the core until it is completely void of impurities. This raises ones energy reserves and allows one to cast more energy-intensive spells.

Now we will talk about how spells are formed, and also the reason why one requires great mental strength and willpower in order to be a successful Magus." explained Jin before pausing for a bit, allowing Acheron to take it all in.

"Please continue, teacher."

"The discovery of spells could be said to be an art. While spells formed by others may work, those created by you will always be stronger in your own hands.

One can copy someone else's spell and make a few personality-dependant changes in order to increase the power it has in your hands.

A spell is represented by a hypercomplex geometric formation drawn through the power of mind. These geometric formations serve as a conduit for energy. Representing the laws of the universe, when they come into contact with energy from your magic core, the spell is unleashed.

All learned and created spells can be stored in a secret space that's naturally formed inside of your third eye. This space is limitless, and you can access it at any time you wish.

Accessing the third eye is a simple process. In deep meditation, when you use the internal vision you already use in your cultivation, you are actually already using your third eye. Simply focus on the middle of your glabella, and you will be able to send you consciousness directly into the third eye's space.

Next, I will prepare the magus technique and a few life path and blood path spells that our Magus Order has inside of our archives. After you master these spells, we will continue with formation theory." as he said this, Jin got up and left, allowing Acheron to ponder on everything he's just learned.

Acheron felt as if he was being taught the greatest secrets of the universe. Everything seemed surreal. He tried entering the space inside of his third eye, and indeed, it was exactly as he was told.

Currently, it was empty. But soon, this is where he would begin to draw his spells. At the same time, he also wondered whether forming his magic core would be faster if he used the energy from his dantian. Acheron was forced to quickly reject this idea based on the ominous feeling he received.

As for the biggest problem with the path of a magus, the slow growth of the magic core, he figured consuming vast amounts of natural treasures would help propel him through the ranks.

He also thought about the potential karmic consequences. Since normal cultivation decreased one's luck significantly, pairing it with magus cultivation should be able to increase his luck to normal levels. He figured it would depend on whether he can match the strength of his cultivation to the strength of his magus powers.

When Jin returned, eight hardcover books were floating around him. They all looked new, as if they were freshly printed. After handing over the books to Acheron, he proceeded to sit back into meditative position, closing his eyes.

Acheron, understanding Jin's intentions, quickly returns to his accomodation. Only now does he feel like taking a good look at his new home.

It was very simplistic at first sight. It had a stone bed, a stone desk and chair and no bathroom. Thankfully, Acheron didn't have any such needs anymore, considering his cultivation.

He first began by reading the magus technique. It was very simple to proceed with it, too simple, even. All he had to do was gather the energy in the environment towards the center of his heart, and shockingly enough, the heart does the job by itself.

The process was very smooth, and in less than an hour, Acheron now had a magic core inside of his heart. He felt he could continue improving it. Although the process of forming it was easy, refining it further wasn't as simple as allowing the heart to do it.

The path of a Magus was divided into nine ranks. The first three ranks represented Earthly Shackles, the next two Heavenly Ascension, Rank 6 and Rank 7 Planetary Subduing, Rank 8 for Galactic Travel, and Rank 9 for Universe Domination.

Progress became more difficult and slow the further one went down this path.

First, Acheron had to gather large amounts of energy before sending it inside of his magic core, all at once. It was not only painful, but he also had to do it over and over. Thankfully though, his pain tolerance was abnormal.

After about six hours, Acheron successfully became a Rank 2 Magus. That's when he decided it was time to look at the spells he received. They represented the first spells the newly born Blood Magus came into contact with.

The first spell he took a look at was Life Sense. It was an auxiliary spell used to detect living enemies. The more energy you provided it with, the larger the area of effect. It was useful against all organic species. No living species could hide from Life Sense unless they possessed techniques that countered such spells specifically.

With Acheron's intelligence, he easily memorized the corresponding geometric formation. What followed was drawing it inside of his third eye space. Copying it didn't take more than thirty minutes, and it was done perfectly.

Next, Acheron willed his third eye to project the formation onto his right palm, before sending the minimum amount of energy from his magic core straight into the formation. What followed was a psychedelic experience for him.

Acheron could now easily feel all creatures with life force in a radius of a hundred meters. From plants to the nearby mages, he felt or 'saw' them all.
