Chapter 45 - The Awakening Procession Almost Failed, The Awakeners Were Getting Exhausted

The explosion hit more bodies, in a very straight horizontal motion. Then another boom exploded, shattering the ground and also bouncing bodies up, and then falling to the ground in a swooping motion.

Ancient flying monsters had a wide variety of forms.  All of them had wings, had two legs and two arms, a shattered face, and fangs.  Some of them had tails like dragons, and some had thorns on their bodies. Ancient flying monsters were one of the most troublesome monsters because they had the most population of any other monster.

After defeating a nine-headed and one-hundred-eyed creeping monster, Folcar looked up into the sky.  His previously excited eyes were now slightly surprised.  "They awaken!"

The flying primeval monster almost filled the gloomy sky.  Some of them had elements of fire, some were the ice element, and some were the earth element.  So when they flew, the ground would rise and fall according to the pulling and pushing energy of their wings.

One of the ancient flying monsters had descended and hit the ground.  The head was like a bird with a body like a werewolf, standing with two dominant hind legs and two arms in the front that was being curled up.

The beaked monster attacked the soldiers of the Euros as well as the Destroyers, some of them had been beaten to death.

Folcar gritted his teeth.  He rushed to jump in the air to attack the monster.

In the air, Velix was still sitting on Elang's back.  His eyes were very alert when he saw the troop of ancient winged monsters who was approaching now.  The dense aura on his body slowly faded away.  "Friend, we will have an even tougher battle now.  Do you have any ideas?"

Elang crowed, providing a solution.  And not long after that, a thick aura erupted from Velix's and Elang's bodies again.  The two of them were on alert with eyes blazing with determination.  Velix stood on Elang's back.  His two fingers pointed at the sky.

As the ancient flying monsters drew closer Velix shouted, "Double Arrows! Gigantic mode!"

The arrows behind Velix's back shot up into the sky, then they circled up and then dived down.  The cold and hot wind had merged and now swirled around the arrows.  Its pointed tip gave off sparks amidst the dense aura that covered it.

In the twinkling of an eye, the arrows had already swelled as if swallowing air and inflating its body.  As they plunged, their size increased.  Now they had twisted, floated, and formed an army of flying arrows in front of Velix who was standing on the back of the Elang.  They were ready to fight in the face of the grimacing giant monsters.

Velix saw the monsters stop moving for a moment, with flapping wings helping them to keep flying.  Velix widened his eyes, examining his army of flying arrows.  All of them were already in line with the transformation of swelling sizes and multiplying numbers.  Now Velix sat back on the Elang's back, he shouted, "Attack!"

His giant arrows shot out to attack the flying monsters in front of him.  They clashed with a sound like a very loud sword whirring.  A monster dodged by rolling through the air, and its feet were able to track the giant arrows that attacked it. The flapping of its wings rolled in the wind and filled the ears, a growl came from its mouth, and its claws dangled like giant broken claws.

The arrow flew far away, a thick coil of aura around it snaking like a black curtain that fluttered from the brunt of a terrible storm.  A monster chased it from behind, spitting greenish smoke from its slimy and sharp-toothed mouth.  Just before the green smoke hit the arrow, another attack of arrows from various directions had invaded the monster.  The rain of arrows ambushed and locked it.

The monster rose into the air, flapped its hollow and torn wings, strengthened its clawed legs, then kicked the arrows with great force.  This seemed like a unique self-defense attraction.  The arrows bounced away, as if weak and helpless.  At the end of its bouncing, another monster was ready to kick it again or perhaps catch it with its beak and tear it apart.

Some of Velix's giant arrows had changed to their original size.  They flew witheringly to return to the quiver, a place where they had been stored before, behind Velix's back.

Velix saw that his army of arrows was starting to weaken, and that seemed to be the case because the energy of the monsters was much stronger than before.  Finally, he intervened directly.  Velix stood up and jumped in a somersault, a giant arrow coming to pick him up.  Velix's feet rested on the arrow very firmly as if the arrow was the safest and most comfortable footing on the ground below.  Velix shouted, "Double Bow Transformation!"

His bow had fallen from his body. It flew in front of Velix then formed a transformation.  The bow had turned into a steel shield that blazed intensely, turning in a circle before finally falling into Velix's grasp.  While the string had slipped from its bow, coiled in the air, lengthened, and wrapped around one of Velix's arms like a very obedient pet.  The string now moved like a snake's head in Velix's hand.

"Elang, Flap the Dark Wind!"  shouted Velix again.  Now from behind, Elang shot up to spin like a powerful wind drill. His rotation was capable of destroying the bodies of several monsters very quickly.

Velix invaded after Elang took down the monsters.  In his hand, the dense string had turned into an extremely dense and powerful spear.  Velix threw his spear, trying to hit a monster.  The spear shot out and finally pierced the heart of a monster.  Velix made a move with his hands, and then the spear turned into strings again, binding the monster's body to shreds.  That's how the string spear worked in battle.

The string spear returned to Velix's hand.  A monster tried to beat him from above, swooped down, and tried to devour Velix.  When its enormous mouth opened and almost reached Velix, Velix jumped in a somersault to move to the top of the other arrows.

The monster swung its claws.  Velix raised the shield in front of his head.  The shield immediately widened, raised sharp teeth, and then spun like a wheel, or perhaps a crushing machine.  The monster's claws instantly shattered when it touched Velix's shield, and Velix then attacked it with his string spear.  An explosion occurred, and it was dead.

The battle continued.  At first, Velix was confident enough to win, until finally, he saw the ancient winged monsters were not running out.  They always appeared from various directions, on the newly formed portals.

Velix panted, he stood on his giant arrow.  His body jumped and kicked a monster that tried to attack him from behind.  His stamina had greatly reduced now, not much different from Elang which began to seem to fly quite slowly.

Meanwhile, the Healer troops inside the protective wall were now observing the course of the battle.  Their faces, which were covered by dark hoods, seemed to move anxiously.  One of them said, "This is even worse than I thought.  The monsters have evolved very quickly."

One of the monsters had made it through the cordon of the Destroyers.  Now it pulled the soil from below, lifted it, and pounded it against Luna's wall.  The wall shooked instantly, creating quite a loud sound.

"This is bad.  While the Awakeners don't seem to be able to awaken the legend's natural universe core yet." A Healer now looked up, looking at the circular formation created by the Awakeners.  Water was still gushing from the ground, which this time became very weak in lifting the bodies of the Awakeners.

One of the Awakeners finally couldn't hold out any longer.  The jet of water under her feet suddenly disappeared, her body floated and fell and hit the ground. She groaned, her whole body oozing water.

Folcar widened his eyes in surprise.  He immediately stopped the awakening procession, to come down and inspect the fallen Awakener.  "Sodas, are you all right?"

Sodas' body looked very weak and even could only curl up on the ground without moving an inch, while around her puddles of water did not stop appearing. She was like a balloon that had burst.

One of the other Awakeners said, "She could have died, Folcar.  Her body was already so weak, even the solid elements in her body had melted away.  We have to get her to Devores Falls as soon as possible.  Otherwise, she will die."

Folcar clenched his fists, his face became very firm.  He looked up again, at the three cores of the universe that were still swirling.  Could they fail to reawaken the legend?
