Chapter 3 - Chapter Three: The Imbalance of Nature

The Greek mythology believes a person was once born with four legs, four hands, two faces, and two hearts. But over the years the body parted into two and so did the soul. And since then the soul searches for its missing part. And when they meet, however, the person whose parted soul is in just realized that the other person standing in front of him is his missing soul and that is what we call soulmates.

The same could be referenced to Dawson Henrichson and Francesca Akilson. Ever since they were born in 900 A.D., they both felt something incomplete. Something missing. They had everything in life, loving parents and siblings, strength, intelligence, profound looks, wealth, etc. but their hearts longed for something else. Someone else. And so when they were 18 years old, they crossed paths in the forest in the morning and had a glance at each other. A feeling of comfort arose between the two of them when they saw each other. The burning sensation of talking to each other grew heavier and more uncontrollable. To hear each other's voice, they both walked towards each other and stopped when they thought they were close enough.

"Good Morning miss, heading somewhere?" Dawson asked in his manly voice.

"Good morning to you too fine man. And no, I am not heading anywhere. Just roaming here and there." Francesca replied in a sweet voice. "Are you heading somewhere?"

"No, though I think I reached a destination," Dawson replied looking at Francesca; smiling.

Francesca giggled at this and so they started walking. They talked about their interests, disinterests, what they adore, what they hate, life, flowers, about them, and how they always felt lonely. But since the moment they saw each other, they never felt more whole.

Preparations were made and gifts were being exchanged. The alone child, Francesca of Akilson and Mayala was getting married. A fortune was about to be spent at their wedding by both Dawson and Francesca's parents. After all, Dawson, a single child of Damanay and Marla Henrichson was getting married too. Rituals were performed and they were married.

Having everything, both Dawson and Francesca were unable to do one thing. They couldn't bear a child. They tried for years doing different rituals but were unable to. Ten years of marriage with no child made Dawson and Francesca restless and their marriage spoiled. They forgot their love for each other and slowly became unbearable to each other.

One day, Francesca sought the help of a witch Klaylia. She said only one thing could be the solution now for them. Magic possessed in the white oak tree. It is their only chance. Klaylia drew a circle of black salt and placed a huge part of white oak at the center. She slit both; Dawson and Francesca's palms and dropped few drops of their blood on the White Oak. She chanted a spell; channeling the powers of ancestral witches and the drops of blood came together joining to make one drop of blood. Klaylia made Francesca drink that drop of blood and within nine months, Francesca gave birth to two baby boys. One named Ulrich Dawson and the other Mikael Dawson.

The twins were raised with absolute love and care. No harm would come for them. Ulrich being the elder one by an hour, would claim his power over Mikael while Mikael would simply go along the circle of life. Both Dawson and Francesca prepared rich food and bought magnificent clothes for their sons. In short, both Ulrich and Mikael were living like kings.

However, when Klaylia mentioned her white oak ritual to her husband Hujen, he being a part of The Equilibrium, was conflicted because his wife had used the world's most powerful creation to undo God's will by vanishing the deficiencies in Dawson and Francesca by gifting them with twins; hence disturbing the equilibrium. And so to maintain the equilibrium, Hujen set out to kill Ulrich and Mikael.

Ulrich and Mikael had a habit of watching the shining stars at dawn; standing in the middle of forests. Even though their parents advised not to yet on a night at dawn, Ulrich and Mikael left their home to roam around. Suddenly Hujen; wearing a mask and covering his entire body came and knifed them both until they bled. Once Hujen noticed they were stiff, he left them to die.

But when Hujen was stabbing them, they screamed their parents' names. And within a minute after 's Hujen departure, both Dawson and Francesca came to see their sons lying there in blood. They cried a lot, shouted and screamed but not too much for Dawson got an idea.

"Can Klaylia fix this?"

A glimmer of hope lighted in Francesca's eyes. "She can try."

And so they both carried their sons to Klaylia's doorstep and knocked. Klaylia opened the door and saw Dawson and Francesca covered in young Ulrich and Mikael's blood.

"What happened?"

"We don't know. We just found them like this!" Dawson replied.

"Can you fix them?" Francesca asked with hope.

Klaylia bent down and checked their heartbeat. There was no heartbeat.

"I am sorry Francesca but they have died."

Dawson shredded a tear but Francesca held them,

"Please Klaylia, I beg of you! Please fix them! We don't have anyone else..... They mean a lot to us. Please, I beg! I can't--- we can't live without them. Please give us our sons back. Please....."

The low voice of Francesca revealed how broke she was. Klaylia looked at both of them and with a sigh, she asked them to enter.

"Is there no other way?" Dawson asked quite in fear.

"I am afraid not. The power which gave them life can bring them back from the dead too. The white oak tree."

"But you are asking our sons to be some evil creature!"

"Everything works in order. The sun rises in the morning and sets in the evening, a flower turns into a fruit. And so the power in white oak tree works in order too. And witches are not allowed to interfere in that order. Not witch, not anyone."

"And what order is that?" Francesca asks.

"Ever since the tale of the Ocle Miracle which dates back to 300 years, people have been praising the White Oak Tree. Offerings, gifts exchanges, unadorned rituals, and sacrifice are the four adamants people have made towards the White Oak Tree. Meaning it cannot be used beyond these four adamants. If anyone tries to use it beyond these four adamants, then the people of The Equilibrium fetch the person and kills him there and then to balance the equilibrium. This is because people of The Equilibrium know what can the White Oak Tree do following its order. The order is simple: Life, Eternity, Fire. The power in the White Oak Tree recognizes every soul. If it is used at first, it can give life. However, if it is used for the second time at the same soul, it gives the soul an immortal life i.e. a life for eternity and once it gives the soul immortal life, the same White Oak can kill the soul. Burns the body with fire."

"So it can give life back to our sons but becomes the only thing that can kill them?" Francesca asks. Klaylia nods. Francesca looks at Dawson and says, "It's a good deal."

"Are you mad? This woman is talking about turning our sons into monsters!" Dawson shouts.

"Do we have any other choice?!" Francesca shouts back.

"Okay just know that the sun is going to rise in half an hour and we have to do the ritual before that because with the rise of a new day, rises a new life. And we cannot wait till tomorrow because till then the heart will be too infirm." Klaylia informed.

"Husband, this is our only chance," Francesca says in a calming voice to Dawson.

"I cannot grow old raising a monster, wife! I always wished to become a grandfather. And now that will be snatched away from us." Dawson replies in an unusual, shallow voice.

"I too wanted that but we cannot lose our sons because our wish is lost," Francesca says in an emotional voice.

"Not to intrude or anything but I don't think that is a problem. (Francesca and Dawson confusingly stares) I can set a time system or something." Klaylia informed again.

"What to do you mean, time system?" Dawson asks.

"I mean that for now I can just wake them up as humans and let them be humans till a particular age."

"Seriously?" Francesca asks. Klaylia nods. "But how?"

"I am a Bennet witch meaning I am a part of one of the most powerful bloodlines of witches. And with my ancestors' grimoires and the power in the White Oak Tree, it's a piece of cake."

"So let's do it!" Dawson said.

Klaylia drew a symbol that showed four stages of life: nativity, youth, maturity, passing; connected at a point called immortality. She lighted the candle and placed it on the immortality point and asked Francesca,

"At what age will your sons will turn to a vampire?"

Francesca looked at Dawson and replied,

"We want our sons to grow old enough to realize what is responsibility. And responsibilities strike when you are a parent so we want our sons to remain human till the age of 40 years."

"Okay," Klaylia says and resumes back to her ritual. She put salt at each corner of the symbol and started saying the spell:

"Ego vocabo aks annorum vitae meae dabo ignem vires ingenii celeritate venissent nocte crescere me mittere lumen caeli.

Ego vocabo aks annorum vitae meae dabo ignem vires ingenii celeritate venissent nocte crescere me mittere lumen caeli.

Ego vocabo aks annorum vitae meae dabo ignem vires ingenii celeritate venissent nocte crescere me mittere lumen caeli.

Ego vocabo aks annorum vitae meae dabo ignem vires ingenii celeritate venissent nocte crescere me mittere lumen caeli."

Then she takes a knife and polishes it with melted wax from the candle four times. Then with the knife, she engraves both Ulrich and Mikael's names on the White Oak four times and says the binding spell while doing it.

"Tu quis es, qui me unum sumus.

Tu quis es, qui me unum sumus.

Tu quis es, qui me unum sumus.

Tu quis es, qui me unum sumus."

After that Klaylia took salt from each corner; which was turned to black now and polished it on the White Oak. After that, she went to still Ulrich and sat beside him.

"This part won't be easy to see Francesca." She warned.

After saying that she said,

"I call upon the ancestors to give me the strength.

I call upon the ancestors to give me the strength.

I call upon the ancestors to give me the strength.

I call upon the ancestors to give me the strength."

And then she struck the pointed White Oak in to Ulrich's heart. Both Dawson and Francesca gasped at this.

"One for the nativity." Then she pulls out the White Oak. Then again she struck the pointed White Oak in the heart.

"One for youth." Then she pulls out the White Oak. Then again she struck the pointed White Oak in the heart.

"One for maturity." Then she pulls out the White Oak. Then again she struck the pointed White Oak in the heart. The parents closed their eyes at this point.

"One for passing." Then she pulls out the White Oak. And then she says the same binding spell,

"Tu quis es, qui me unum sumus." And then again she struck the pointed White Oak in the heart.

"And one for immortality." Then she pulls out the White Oak.

After that, she does the same to Mikael. After that, she casts a spell and burns the White Oak, and joins the parents.

"The shared White Oak will give them equal strength and equal power."

"Will they wake up?" Dawson asked.

"Yes, with the rise of the new sun, your sons will rise too."

After a while, sunshine entered Klaylia's house through the window and it led on the still Ulrich and Mikael.

"Anytime now," Klaylia said.

Within a few seconds, both, Ulrich and Mikael woke up.
