Chapter 5 - Chapter Five: The Monsters

"There was once a time when people were worshipping stones; thinking that the God himself is in it as it is so strong. At that time hammers or sickles weren't invented. The giant rocks would be famed for a quality it possessed. However, soon people used the same stones to hunt; believing the power of God would grant them the flesh of even the mightiest creatures. And when the sharpness of the stone and not the believed power did the wonders, its praise got stronger. People were convinced that God with his power in the stone is blessing them with food and so the people of The Old started making tools with stones.

The masses enjoyed the flesh of different beasts for a very long while until one young and brilliant-minded man Kilmin tested hammering the hammer against a stone itself. Something neither the masses nor the people of The Old tried before. He tested it once in a corner; away from the dumb-minded. When he hit the hammer on the piece of stone for about the sixth time, the piece of stone cracked. And when Kilmin hit the stone again, the stone broke into pieces.

Kilmin then demonstrated this act in front of everyone while putting his life at risk. It was decided if any sort of mishap is created because of Kilmin's act, the people of The Old would kill him using the hammer itself; believing God himself will punish Kilmin for the hammer's misuse.

However, pretty soon Kilmin did break the stones and declared that the stones are not some Godly creation. It is just a stone, a piece of another huge stone. This discovery made by Kilmin opened their eyes. People used the stones as just stones and used them without thinking twice. They broke stones to make space and to make more tools. They would break more and more stones and make more and more tools.

However, there was an egg-sized red-colored stone that was about to be used for an ornament. But the problem was it wasn't breaking. It had some rough edges and so the masses wanted them gone but nothing was happening to the stone when it was hammered. Different people tried with different tools but it just didn't break. Nor did it crack. And this regained the masses' belief by that stone."

"Which stone was that mother?" the young son asked his mother.

The woman looked at his curious son and answered, with a smile

"It was the Humen Stone."

Niklaus woke up inhaling a deep breath. He was the last one to wake up among the Mikaelsons.

"Finally, you are up brother!" Elijah said to Niklaus; still scared. "I feared you left us."

"Oh, of course, he was going to wake up! We're immortals remember brother?" Kol commented in his regular arrogant manner. "But that doesn't mean I fancy getting my neck snapped like a dry branch. Once it was a dear mother and now our father. It pains like ass!"

"It's supposed to Kol. You die when you get your neck snapped. Death is never painless." Mikael said.

"Yeah but father, why did you kill us?" Finn asked.

"Because son, do you remember what stunt you all pulled? (They looked guilty) You killed 10 people! (They all looked shocked at that revelation) Yes, 10 people! Dried them of blood!" They all seemed very affected by this especially Finn. Finn was always a righteous person and believed in non-violence. And to hear he was a part of a mass-murdering got him speechless."

"I am sorry father. We couldn't control ourselves. The moment we smelled blood, we just lost control of our minds and wanted nothing but blood. We felt if we'll not drink blood, we'll die." Elijah explained.

"I know that! I have been through the same. And because of that, I got myself in some serious trouble. Fortunately, there were people of The Order to save me." Mikael said.

"The Order who?" Kol asked.

"Listen, children, we have already disturbed the equilibrium of nature so the people of The Equilibrium will be coming for us and we cannot risk everything with you all being out of control," Esther spoke up.

"Yes and so to protect you all from The Equilibrium, I will train you to control your thirst towards blood."

"The Equilibrium, The Order; what is all this? You need to answer father." Kol demanded.

"In time. But now you all go rest and at night, I'll start your training". Mikael ordered.

Everyone began to leave except Elijah who stood there waiting for everyone to leave so that he could ask his father the thing he wanted to ask for so long. When everyone did leave, Elijah came closer to Mikael and asked,

"Father, what happened to Hayden?"

Mikael inhaled a deep breath and replied,

"Your mother and I handled the situation."

Elijah blinked a couple of times nervously before saying,

"In the same way, we handled Davian's situation?" Mikael hesitantly nods. "Okay," Elijah says hiding his emotions.

Mikael pats Elijah's shoulder and leaves. Esther was too absent in the house and so Elijah was all alone. He started sobbing and then he tried to control himself but to no avail.

"I can't believe we killed 10 people," Finn says in remorse.

"Yeah, I can never think of killing someone," Rebekah says.

"You say it like we all fancy murdering innocents," Kol argues.

"I am not saying anything. I am just a little bewildered of what happened." Rebekah explained.

"Yeah, and what happened is we all became monsters!" Finn shouted."

"No need for exaggeration brother," Kol said.

"What exaggeration. We killed.... (Calms himself as they were walking around people and continues in a slow voice) We killed 10 people. Murdered them in cold blood. Doesn't that make us monsters?" Finn argues.

"Oh, shut up, Finn! Mother made us like this for our good. And in her love, if there is written monstrosity for us, then I am okay with it. And father has said he'll teach us to control. So I don't understand the reason for your anger." Niklaus expresses.

"How was it Nik? Running fast?" Henrik attempts to change the topic.

Niklaus appreciates Henrik's attempt and kisses his head.

"It was nothing like we have ever seen. We could hear the movement of grass when squirrels were running, could hear the sound of air." Niklaus replied.

"Yes, we could hear the baby bird's chirping, breathing of a pigeon." Kol continued.

"Oh, I cannot wait to have a hearing ability like that!" Henrik expresses.

They all laugh.

"Where's brother Elijah?"

"He said he wanted to talk to father about sometimes. He said he'll join. He must be coming soon." Rebekah replied.

But Elijah was drowning in his sadness. He was sitting at a corner and was just crying; wailing silently. Esther entered and saw the troubled Elijah. She immediately went to him and asked what's wrong. Elijah replies sobbing;

"Mother, can you make me forget about Hayden? You see..... he's dead because of me and I want to forget he even existed."

Esther waved a hand on Elijah's hair to serene him.

"You know Elijah, I can't do that. You killed him and so I can't make you forget Hayden."

"Isn't there any other way?" Elijah asked with hope.

"No son. There is no other way." Esther declared.

He nodded. He didn't agree with the situation but had no other choice,

"I see his face, mother. Everywhere, I see him. He is not saying anything or doing anything. He is just smiling. Just smiling. I can see he wants to cry, he wants to scream, he wants to shout or do anything besides smiling. But he still is smiling."

"Then I think he is trying to make you feel better," Esther suggested.

"Or worse..." Elijah feared.

At this point, Esther pulled Elijah closer to herself. She felt not bad. She felt guilty. Guilty of not being able to say anything.

It was late night and everyone was inside the house. Outside the Mikaelsons' house, it was quiet and hushed. But inside the Mikaelsons' house, everything was exciting and stirring. The Mikaelsons were learning about their vampirism after all.

How could they not be exhilarated? The children were chatting among themselves; Elijah being the quietest when suddenly Mikael appeared in front of them with a man.

"Uhh... father, didn't we had something else to do tonight?" Kol asked.

"I remember everything Kol. And that is why this man is here. He'll help us control your temptations." Then Mikael looked into the man eyes' and said,

"You are not going to scream or shout.

You are just going to stand here and do nothing. And once you leave this place, you will not remember any of this." Then he looked away. To everyone, the man seemed like he was in a trance when Mikael was speaking. But they slid it off.

After that, Mikael took the man's hand, and bit his wrist, and started feeding on him. When Mikael was feeding, there were blood veins all around his eyes which then turned to dark brown with pitch-black pupils. Even the white sclera turned dark brown.

When Mikael stopped feeding on him, there was blood around his lips. With the fangs and flowing blood, he was looking like what Finn had said, a Monster. When the Mikaelsons', smelled the blood, except Rebekah and Henrik, they too got those veins around their eyes and their eyes too turned dark brown. They got the same maddening thirst for the blood oozing from the man's wrist.

"Now children, control yourself. That dying thirst you all are experiencing will be the death of this man. And if we don't learn to control, our chances of survival will start diminishing. So control it. That's why we all are here."

The children tried to control their increasing thirst. They were continuously growling.

"Fight it! Don't let it control you. Remember, the thirst belongs to you. You don't belong to the thirst. The thirst is dependent on you and it's not the other way round...."

"Enough!" Kol shouted and ran to the man and bit on his neck and started feeding greedily. Mikael at that instant snapped Kol's neck. Watching Kol lying dead there, the other Mikaelsons got some kind of control. "I knew he'd be the first to go down." Mikael expressed.

"Father, let Henrik and me go. We have nothing to learn here. We still haven't turned to a vampire." Rebekah said.

"But you will be soon. And I may not be there to teach you then. So learn everything you can now!" Mikael ordered.

"But why wouldn't you be here, father?" Henrik asked.

"Because we have now welcomed our enemies into our lives. And soon there will be a fight. And therefore, I can't fight with my family out of control! So you better learn to control yourselves now!" Mikael told the last sentence to the turned vampires that is Finn, Elijah, and Klaus.

"Now that your veins have disappeared, Finn; come here."

Finn at that instant got up and walked to his father. Standing so close to the man, he still didn't get those veins popping around his eyes. To that Mikael commented: Good.

Mikael then offered the man's wrist to Finn and allowed him to feed and Finn did start feeding on him. After seconds of feeding, Mikael ordered to stop. Finn at one second stopped. After that, he told Finn to go sit down.

Mikael followed the same with Elijah and Klaus and once Kol woke up, he did the same with him too. After that, Mikael bit his wrist and ordered the man to drink the blood oozing out of his wrist. The man followed the order and within a few seconds, the bite on the man's wrist recovered. The bite on Mikael's wrist recovered too as healing was a perk of being a vampire too. He then told the man to leave looking into his eyes. The man left at an instant.

"Now you all must be wanting for more, right?" (They all agreed) Good. Esther, take Rebekah and Henrik outside with you, and don't come in unless I tell you please." Mikael again ordered. Esther nodded and left the house with Rebekah and Henrik.

"What now father?" Niklaus asked.

"Now we sit and wait," Mikael answered.

"Wait for what?" Elijah asked.

"For you to go crazy," Mikael answered.
