Chapter 12 - New Motive

"A senior to you, who is stronger than an impulsive brat like you."

Ellen insulted him, triggering rage within Zaiden. While Curtis had already read the notification in the corner of his eye, since both of them were connected they could read the pop ups.

Zaiden and Curtis were bound by the system, either of them died they both would vanish. But the system's current stats and focus was inclined towards Zaiden and his development.

He growled and the canines grew into fangs, the darkness clouded Zaiden's vision again. The hunger once again surged through his body and he charged at Marco. The kid had barely managed to stand up with blood flowing from his nose.

"Step back, you brat!"

Drake shouted and shielded Marco, whereas Ellen appeared in front of them and blocked Zaiden's punch in between her palms. Zaiden crouched with a swift movement and aimed for her legs, but Ellen effortlessly dodged it by chanting the spell.

The sand beneath her feet swirled and aided her to jump before Zaiden's kick could even hit her. Her reflexives and observations stunned Zaiden, forcing him to ponder how could she predict his attacks.

Zaiden appeared to be incomparable to a trained vampire like her, the evident defeat made him envy her and eager to find the cause of those feats. Ellen emerged closer to him from behind and took Zaiden by neck.

"Apologize to Marco."

She leaned to his ear while Drake stood in front of Marco cautiously. Curtis couldn't help in the situation except to possess any of them, and thus he crept closer to Drake because he seemed stronger than Marco.

"This one should help to beat that kid."

Curtis floated towards him and placed his hand on Drake's shoulder, when the notification popped up.

[Error in possessing. Need 24 hours to proceed again.]

"What a useless thing is this system!?"

The butler, now the ghost partner needed to rest for a day before he could possess another vampire. Curtis gave an apologetic gaze to Zaiden, who bit Ellen on her arm.

"Apologize, in your dreams!"

Zaiden had no powers at that moment of which he was aware off. Although he had stolen a few pills from Valos during the time when he was cleaning the table. He fished out the yellow pill and crushed it in his palms, the dust stuck to his palms ready to summon the water nearby.

"Oh, haha. So, you have those pathetic pills to enhance and direct your strength?"

Ellen ridiculed him for using the pills which were crafted for the beginners. Only the vampires who didn't have enough money to enroll in the academy were reduced to use them.

Valos was kind enough to produce them to help out the C class vampires, since kingdom Xandaya was already in crises. The people were living worse and their strength was nearly null comparatively the other relative kingdoms.

Henceforth Lyre Theon sold out the formula to other kingdoms in exchange of measly perks which only benefitted him. Thus, the idea of pills was not new to Ellen, although Zaiden felt inferior to them in that moment.

But considering his current hopeless situation he shook the thoughts, he awaited for something to happen while Ellen leisurely walked towards him. Zaiden had no clue he required the spell to channel the water element, solely pills would not help him to summon the element.

'Come on, why it's not working?'

Zaiden became upset upon no results, and with each passing second Ellen was coming closer with a victorious grin. Curtis had no say in the matter, he trusted Zaiden's instincts which were telling him to run.

Ellen charged at him with air curling around her body, Zaiden spotted a visible snake made up of air and dust behind her. For the first time in his killing spree he felt helpless and fearful without any of his weaponry.

Zaiden closed her eyes and the yellow dust in his hand vanished since he couldn't chant the required spell. He expected a wave of excruciating pain on his cheek, but nothing touched his body.

He snapped opened his eyes only to spot a tall old man with a white beard standing in front of him. Zaiden tilted his head to see Ellen and others rooted there with their gazes lowered with guilty expressions.

"Is this show you treat the new disciple?"

The old man scolded them while serving as barrier between Ellen and Zaiden. The three of them wanted to speak and tell the whole scenario, but no one dared to utter a single word.

"You all are grounded for a week. And the deduction of five points in the examination will be implemented."

The old man finished his speech and turned towards Zaiden, he inspected him keenly from head to toe. The master had been informed about a new disciple's entry, and mistook Zaiden for the new kid.

"You are coming with me to decide on the matter. This not how we treat mates here, young man!"

Curtis floated towards Zaiden to suggest him to keep quiet. Particularly in their situation when they both were blank, it was wise to go with the flow.

"We should accompany them, master. All of these kids are stronger and we have reached the east kingdom. They might be the disciples of some academy, maybe the education there can help us unlock the privileges of the system."

Zaiden thought for a brief moment and nodded, the old man summoned the air to form a carpet beneath their feet to carry them. Zaiden concluded that the vampires held different kinds of strengths, and to fulfil the mission he needed to be stronger than them.
