Diana came back to the living room fully dressed and ready to go out, she reached out for her phone and walked outside without checking it - Marcus followed.
Detective Edmond didn't even get to the IT guy when he met up with Martin at the subway, Martin noticed him from the police station when he was inside talking to Diana although still he couldn't grasp if it was him or not.
Inorder to find out, Martin went to him acting like he was lost holding a ticket.
"Hey, sorry man... I... I think I'm lost" said Martin in a thick British accent while forcing a smile. Detective Edmond looked at Martin attentively, then he chuckled softly.
"It's alright man, who can blame you it's New York, you are about to get lost in the jungle"
"It's called a jungle?"
"Concrete jungle where dreams are made, that's empire state of mind, by Alicia Keys and of course Jay Z" Detective Edmond said but then he realized perhaps he wasn't helping Martin much by talking about artists which properly he never heard of. "I bet you didn't get what I just did you?" he asked jokingly and Martin smiled and shook his head "No"
Detective Edmond took Martin's ticket and looked at it, what he wasn't aware of is that Martin followed him and he knew exactly where he was going to hence he bought the ticket for the same place.
"Oh! We going to the same street"
"Really?"
"Yeah man, listen I'm a detective. Stay with me you'll be fine. You do trust cops don't you?"
"Well given the recent shootings in America, truly I don't know what to believe in"
"Don't worry big guy, I'm the good ones" said Detective Edmond then he reached out for his backpack and they walked to the train which had just arrived.
Martin couldn't take his eyes off the backpack, he knew that's where the detective will be keeping the footages he found during the night of the shooting. When they sat inside the train side by side, Martin made sure not to act suspicious and detectives usually get calmer in the presence of people they consider dull and stupid - especially new comers and the detective was so comfortable around Martin.
"So, what's ya name dude?" asked detective Edmond.
"Me? I... William Hannover, the third"
Detective Edmond chuckled softly "The third huh? I never really understood the obsession with British people and naming their kids second, third, forth... I mean ever your Queen, heard she is Elizabeth the second"
"It's the culture, but I agree with you it can be rather too formal and boring"
"Right! Boring it is..."
They both laughed, Martin and the detective had that bond as if they knew each other all along. They talked about London and the big Ben, the red buses which differentiated them from any place in the whole world. Detective Edmond himself had been to London when he was fifteen, and even though he admitted to be facing some difficulties being a black man, he dreamt of going there back again.
When the train reached the station detective Edmond was the first one to tell Martin that they have arrived.
"I guess I'll see you around William" he said shaking Martin's hand.
"I hope so too"
"Be careful, it's a jungle... the last thing you want is to meet a Lion, or a viper"
"I'll try to be careful strolling around"
"Alright man..." Detective Edmond said his goodbyes then he took a way towards blocks of houses which were clustered.
This neighborhood didn't look so safe, it had Martin having a feeling like he was in Harlem. A typical street for black people as there were walls painted with graphics on the street, a few gun marks on the wall too - truly a violent street and probably not safe for a white man in a thousand dollar suit to walk by, however Martin had a loaded gun on his waist just waiting for the perfect time.
While surveying and finding a proper place to trap Detective Edmond, Marcus was blowing his phone with messages wanting him to just kill Edmond already. Martin ignored the messages as he kept walking, this time he opened the location pinned to where Detective Edmond will meet up with this IT guy and he found it that it was close by. "Shit!" He cursed and walked faster.
From time to time Detective Edmond would look at his back scared if someone was actually following him but Martin was alarmed and quick to hide himself, but when he was ready he whistled to him and hid behind a wall.
"Who's there?" Detective Edmond asked, he stopped walking and drew his gun. "Don't play no games on me it's too early for this shit. I'm a fucking cop just passing... I mean no harm" he shouted.
Then Detective Edmond was waiting for a reply or anything but Martin remained silent and carefully hiding, Edmond's shadow helped Martin to track his movements and noticed whenever he was making a move. The moment he reached out to Martin, suddenly Martin shot him on his heart using a silencer hence there were no noise which could alarm anyone. Still in disbelief and shocked, Detective Edmond fell down coughing blood and trying to stay alive.
Martin pulled him to the side which was empty and dark, then he took the backpack. Edmond was still looking at Martin as his soul was leaving his body, he took out his gloves, covered his hands so as to not leave his fingerprints behind and then bent down to ease his pain.
"Easy buddy... let it go. There's no shame in accepting defeat. We are both soldiers aren't we? And soldiers die in battle every single day" said Martin taking Edmond's hand out of his chest and from there blood kept on flowing out rapidly. "There... You'll bleed to death and it'll be the peaceful way of going. I'm sorry man, I didn't wanna do this but you can be such a sneaky bitch. With all the footages and identifying murderers but it just turns out I'm the murderer in those footages and I just cannot let you get away with it. You do understand don't you?" Martin explained himself but then he heard voices coming his way and that's when he quickly raced out of that place and went back to the subway.
Diana and Marcus had arrived at the place where Detective Edmond had sent the location to, it was indeed a rough neighborhood that had Marcus asking "Are you sure it's the same place?"
"That's what it says on the map. It's this apartment..." Diana pointed at a small house infront of them.
"I'll lead, you follow" said Marcus then he took out his gun from the car's drawer.
"Come on Marcus, black people aren't that dangerous. And I hope that gun is licenced"
"Of course it is"
"Edmond wouldn't have called me here if it's safe"
Marcus grabbed his attention to Diana "You trust this guy? You just met him Diana"
"I know Marcus, but he... he wouldn't do anything to put me in danger" she said and then exited the car while Marcus was calling her.
"Diana... Diana... Shit!" Marcus opened the door and then he walked to the house carrying his gun.
Diana walked inside but Marcus waited for a while, he just received a message from Martin, it read "Done Sir" and that managed to give him a wide smile. He walked inside like a winner knowing everything was taken care for. He found Diana talking to a young man in his early twenties, he was black and not that tall probably five foot four and he had such tall locks which fell effortlessly behind his back.
"And who's this?" he said pointing at Marcus.
"This is Marcus, a friend. Like I asked earlier, where is detective Edmond?" asked Diana.
"Uncle Edmond? Well he hasn't been here for a while, he lives in the big city now"
Diana was confused "Didn't he tell you that he'll be here?"
"Yeah he did, probably he's facing some technology issues in the office. He usually comes by to fix his things inside his drive, he should be here soon. Are y'all waiting for him?"
"Yeah we are"
"Have a seat then"
The young man was called Ian, he brought in two chairs for both Marcus and Diana then he went on to do his task, but it was within the same living room. Ian wasn't a talkative and neither was Marcus or Diana hence the whole place was occupied with silence. But the silence was only on the outside because inside of Diana's head it was chaotic and she was so worried and excited at the same time to finally know who shot her husband. Marcus's thoughts were elsewhere, but he wasn't worried as such since Martin already assured him that the task was done.
After half an hour and Detective Edmond was nowhere to be seen, Diana gave him a call and it went straight to voicemail - Martin switched it off and he ran away with it.
