Diana went from being a depressed widow who spent a week binge watching Law and Order, in addition to sad documentaries which made her cry. To a glamorous, shining, official and hot woman in just twenty minutes and in the next five she was inside an elevator making her way to Marcus's office. She wore a blue suit with a white shirt inside, and black heels while leaving her hair gorgeous black hair falling back behind effortlessly.
The first person she met when the elevator door opened was Phoebe. "I'm so glad you could make it Mrs Miller... this way please" Phoebe said excited and relieved that the meeting wouldn't go to waste. They walked together to a special meeting room where five Chinese billionaires and trailblazers were waiting - they were calm and cozy in their thousand of dollars suit. One may mistake them for BTS but perhaps their age would be the only difference, they all looked like they were in their mid fifties.
"Gentlemen... sorry to keep you waiting" Phoebe said instantly and guided Diana to sit at the front chair looking at all the beneficiaries. "Unfortunately Mr Orlando couldn't make it today, however he sent his personal lawyer Mrs Miller to assist this meeting. You can be comfortable to tell her all your plans, offers, and anything of importance for she will take over the meeting for now. I shall be outside in case anyone needs something" Phoebe finished then she slowly stepped outside and closed the door.
There was an awkward silence going on inside the meeting room, Diana made the men nervous because of her undeniably beauty. She noticed it how taken the men were but she was there to work, hence she started the meeting with a "Let's do this gentlemen" and went through the papers and contracts.
Diana may have thought it would be just a walk in the park with the meeting but it took her the whole day, there was a lot of reading and debating with the Chinese billionaires. They had lunch brought in inside the office in the middle of the day, and then continue again. At 6pm, the meeting was done and the beneficiaries expected a contract from her as a lawyer to bind their businesses together.
"We should hurry, my wife is expecting me for dinner" said Jangxi who seemed to be the talkative one in the group. He said it in Mandarin and Diana replied to him.
"You should do as your wife commands. A happy wife, equals a happy life" she said in Mandarin and Jangxi was amused, he smiled and placed a peck on Diana's cheek.
"Clever! You speak Mandarin?"
"I have been to Guangzhou several times and I managed to pick up the language"
"I am delighted. Thank you Mrs Miller"
"Thank you..." Diana shook Jangxi hand and then she reached out for the other men and they said goodbye.
Phoebe was waiting for them at her table and she bid them farewell and expected to see them again soon for more conversation. When she returned back Diana was still there standing next to her desk.
"You haven't left yet?" asked Phoebe.
"I wasn't in a hurry, just curious where Marcus is"
"One thing about my boss is you can never pin him down. He's like a bird, always free and wondering around looking for something more. I used to tease him that he may get lost looking"
"What is he really looking for?"
Phoebe shook her head "I don't know, but quit worrying about him, he always reappears feeling better and brand new. I'm leaving, you should get home and rest, again my deepest condolences on the loss of your husband Diana"
"Thank you Phoebe"
Phoebe proceeded to the check out and exited the building, Diana hang out for a while and then she walked out too - for the first time in her entire life Diana didn't know where to go. Her apartment didn't feel like home but rather a place which made her depressed and sad, today had been a good day and it made her feel alive. She never knew if she would ever leave her bed but she did, and it felt so good for her to find something which made her feel better after what she has been through.
"I should call Marcus, I can't go back to my apartment" she said and dialed Marcus's number.
When Diana called, Marcus was out of the hospital and walking alongside Martin and the psychologist. Marcus had his dose of antibiotics and an hour of therapy before his psychologist said he can be released, but still he had to make progress and attend therapy every day. He was weak and probably the drugs had an effect on him, he couldn't even walk and had to hang on to Martin for support.
Martin had Marcus's phone and the moment he saw Diana, he sighed "It's Mrs Miller... she might want to give report on the meeting"
"What meeting?" asked Marcus unaware of what was going on.
"The board meeting with the Chinese billionaires, it was today sir and I had Mrs Miller cover for you as your lawyer" Martin explained and the psychologist said his goodbyes and walked back to the hospital.
Martin and Marcus kept on walking to their car, and then Martin picked up the call.
"Mrs Miller..."
"Martin?"
"Yes"
"Oh! I was expecting to hear from Marcus, is he doing alright?"
"Why don't you ask him yourself?" asked Martin, then Marcus took the phone excited and nervous at the same time.
Marcus placed his left hand on his pocket, while the right one held the phone steady.
"Hey..."
"Hey Marcus... Are you alright?" asked Diana curiously.
"I can't complain, but I can't also say I'm good either. Where you at?"
"At your office. I can't go home Marcus... I just can't" Diana broke down and cried. "Come pick me up Marcus, please"
"Alright Diana, just hang on okay. I'll be there in a minute. Come on Martin let's go!" Marcus urged Martin and opened the car, this time he was the one driving.
There are things Martin interfered for the sake of Marcus's wellbeing but he knew that it wouldn't be wise for him to interfere in Diana's matters, after all he killed Jacob just so his boss can have a chance with Diana - and he was ought to give him that chance.
Marcus took an elevator straight to his office the moment he reached his building, and when he saw Diana sitting helplessly on a chair his heart broke. He would give up everything for her, just for her to be happy, only if she knew how much space she occupied in Marcus's heart.
"Diana" Marcus called out slowly and almost the sound of defeat.
Diana responded "Marcus..." and raced to hug him. Like a wounded animal fleeing from battle, Diana felt safe in Marcus's arms in ways she couldn't put to words.
This was a man who she had just met but yet he'd shown her how much he valued her, and she appreciated it.
That night for the first time Diana visited Marcus's house in the wild, and even though that wasn't how Marcus imagined he would be with Diana but at that moment he decided to take everything as it came by. He was with her in the passenger seat holding hands, and there was a time Diana placed her head on Marcus's thighs and slept peacefully - Martin looked back through the mirror and he managed a smile. Well perhaps killing Jacob wasn't that bad of a choice.
At 10pm they arrived at the house, Diana was still asleep on Marcus's thighs and Marcus refused to wake her up. He loved the way she had that smile on her face, it was priceless and the last thing he wanted to do was wake her up from such peace and quietness.
"We have to go inside sir" said Martin.
"I can't wake her up Martin. You go, I'll join you later"
Martin hesitated "Sir, it's cold. You can carry her inside"
"No, I love watching her sleeping. The psychologist said it's healthy for me to look at things I love" Marcus sighed then he caressed Diana's hair "It's her that I love" he looked up at Martin and smiled.
When Marcus and Martin's eyes met, that strong brotherhood between them sparkled and they were both happy. Not happy that they had to kill a man, Jacob, inorder to get what Marcus wanted but that pure bliss and feeling of satisfaction.
That night Diana slept in Marcus's thighs for the next two hours before she woke up and saw herself inside the car, Marcus informed her that he didn't want to wake her up and it filled her heart with love. They walked inside the house together, hand in hand, it was already midnight and the whole house was silent - except for Martin who was still awake in the living room watching documentaries on Natgeo, but he pretended to be asleep as Diana and Marcus passed right through him and took the stairs.
