The night after her first ever huge deal Diana intended to celebrate with her close friends and Jacob. They went out for dinner together at Maisele Jaan which was a Indian restaurant that Diana had always take a liking to. Ever since she moved to New York she had always dreamt of dining at such exquisite restaurant which was filled with fine looking waitresses in their dashing uniforms ready to serve their customers.
They sat at an already reserved table and ordered food from the menu that was presented. They were four people combined together including her and Jacob, there was also Demi and Jared who she graduated with them together at Harvard law school.
Demi was a spoiled rich kid and her father owned multiple casinos all over Vegas and Los Angeles, he also had some real estate business spreading out all over Atlanta and rumors were he once sold a mansion to Demi Lovato worth of $17m. Demi had such poor grades on her GED but somehow she was accepted at Harvard, of course her father Mr George Clivington bought her way to Harvard Law. She was a quiet woman and only talked when she was spoken to - she has never liked Jacob for Diana, she thought he was beneath her.
Jared however was a good guy, the glamorous one with the touch of fashion and addiction with lipstick. He was gay and even though he spent most of his days partying and living his best life while in law school, Jared somehow graduated with honor and gained his degree at Harvard. Both of his parents are rich but they've deserted him because of his sexuality, he disgraced his family according to his father's words. He maintained a close contact with his mother Helen who made sure to cover everything from his $4000 per month apartment to every needs and he had never been vulgar enough to consider saving.
Both Demi and Jared joined Diana to dinner after Diana told them of her firm and asked them to take part on it, they were the first beneficiaries to accept the deal and it made Diana see them as true friends and worth keeping. Jared wore tight black leggings and a lose red blouse, he didn't have beards and his hair was long - someone may mistake him for a female and he loved it. Demi opted for a long black dress and a gold necklace around her neck, she wore black heels which even made her more elegant as ever.
Jacob and Diana were in matching colors for the dinner, while Diana opted for a red tight short dress with heels. Jacob wore a white shirt with blue jeans and a red blazer on top. They both looked magnificent and Jared couldn't shut up about how exquisite they looked. He complimented them every now and then.
"I just can't possibly stop gawking at how your head sits prettily on your neck. Girl we could all bow to you..." said Jared and cheered with Diana.
"Bitch you look better than me"
Jared blushed "Oh stop! You'll make a sis blush"
"You go girl" said Demi and joined in on the laugh.
The three of them cheered on the drinks of champagnes while Jacob seemed not to pay attention at all. It was like he was invisible - or he felt like he wasn't belonging being the only one with no career. He thought low of himself even though his wife tried to make him comfortable but yet again jealous pangs hit Jacob hard.
"J are you okay honey?" asked Jared after half an hour of uncomfortable silence from Jacob. He couldn't handle it anymore.
"I'm fine!" replied Jacob.
"You seem rather quiet... or correct me if I'm wrong but you seem bored. Are we boring you?"
Jacob sipped his champagne and with such a frown face and then he bit his jaws and looked at Diana. "Get up let's go" he said.
"What? It's barely ten, we haven't even had dessert. Don't be absurd Jacob"
"I have to go!" he insisted and this time he stood up suddenly and with force.
His anger was visible even through a blank wall, and Diana was yet to understand the cause for such actions. She gazed at him and his eyes were fiery as if he was possessed, possibly possessed by jealous.
"Jacob please... sit"
"How much is it for the dinner? I... I shall pay for it" he said and reached out for his jeans pockets.
Demi intervened and took out her black card "It's really no bother at all. I got this" she said and waved at a waitress. The waitress came over to their table and Linda handed over the card and she walked away with it.
Even after Diana tried to talk some sense to him, Jacob had already made up his mind. He reached for Diana car keys and barged out of the restaurant.
"What is wrong with him?" asked Demi "Is he always like this?"
"Not always..."
"Diana my darling take it from a beautiful bitch like me, honey that's not a man for you. A man who's jealous of your success is a setback to your dreams. Cut him loose" said Jared possibly disgusted by Jacob's sudden departure.
"Cut him loose? He's my husband..." said Diana "Grow up Jared this isn't the university campus anymore"
Demi wasn't having it, the audacity of her friend to still defending Jacob even though he clearly disrespected her in front of her friends.
"Diana... what happened to finding your knight in a shining armor? Clearly this marriage is hanging on a thread"
"Demi I got this"
"You don't got anything peanut butter , this dude clearly showed you that he doesn't respect you first"
Jared intervened "Period"
"And secondly he didn't even ask about your firm and this fund that you just received. It's a big step toward your career Diana and he was supposed to be cheering up now for his wife but what does he do? He walks out of here without a care in the world and worst case scenario he takes your car. And you let him..."
"Demi you'll never understand what he and I..."
Jared cut Diana shot "There's not you and he honey, there's you alone and just him" he said and continued sipping his champagne. But then he quickly stood up and looked around the restaurant, as if he'd just looking for something and then he grabbed his attention to Diana "I'm leaving honey, I can't keep my man waiting, as for you" he said and reached out for a kiss.
Jared kissed Diana's cheeks and he straightened her hair "Chin up honey and go use that five million bucks to create yourself an empire not thinking about a man who can't even love you after all that you do for him" finished Jared and then Demi stood up too. She called for her credit card and both said their goodbyes and left Diana all alone.
And that's when reality hit Diana hard and she had that time to think all along. Had she been so busy and occupied to notice that Jacob was tormented by her success. She thought they were in the whole thing called life together but Jacob was scared of the shadow that she casted upon him. Perhaps Jared was right, but yet still there was nothing she felt she could do at that time.
All the time she was eating and drinking with her friends Marcus was just observing from the top floor of the restaurant. He was stalking Diana without her knowledge and he heard everything that he needed to know concerning her. He first learned about her two close friends Demi and Jared who were utterly canny, also he learned about Diana's conflicts in her marriage which was a start and a bonus for him.
"Sir would you like to move now?" asked Martin who sat across Marcus on a table, they ordered pasta with mushroom but Marcus had yet to touch it.
"Move to where Martin?"
"It isn't safe here for you sir"
"Don't be ridiculous, are you suggesting that a shooter will just come out nowhere and start shooting at me?"
Martin remained quiet as he wasn't in the mood to argue with Marcus especially once he's put his mind into something. He reached out to his pocket and took out two small packets of heroine - Marcus ripped them off from his hands and sniffed all of it in a hurry. As usual he closed his eyes after so as to feel the drug getting inside his body, and after a few minutes he stood up. "Sir, sir you shouldn't..." Martin tried to stop Marcus but he had already made up his mind and walked downstairs to Diana.
"Mrs Miller? What a serendipitous surprise?" Marcus said acting shocked to see Diana.
"Mr Orlando? What are you... of course it's an expensive restaurant you'd be here" she said and smiled. Marcus returned back the smile and they looked at each other.
"Please do sit Mr Orlando"
Marcus took a sit beside Diana "You do flatter me so Diana" he said grinning from ear to ear trying to woo Diana into his charming side.
"In what ways exactly?"
"You dine alone, you drink alone, you work alone and somehow you claim to be married. If I ever found you out again alone I may start to think you lied to me about your marital status Diana Davis"
Diana smiled and gushed "Let's just say he's stubborn"
"Oh I see, trouble in paradise?"
"Yes something like that... enough about me. Tell about yourself and how did you find yourself dining at the same place as I"
Marcus poured himself some champagne and locked eyes with Diana "Maybe I'm stalking you Mrs Miller"
"Oh do you?"
"It's possible"
"Well let's say I'm so lucky to be watched. God knows I could use that in these times of needs" said Diana and she smiled. Marcus smiled too and for the rest of the night they talked about law and politics.
Diana however was so motivated when it came to politics, one may say she was a politician herself. She had views in every subject - in every aspect of how leaders should be and how citizens should react towards leaders who actually weren't doing enough.
She criticized Donald Trump and the way he was acting as a president. She kept telling Marcus how a former reality tv star and businessman wasn't the perfect choice for America, because he had no knowledge of politics or whatsoever. "I just can't understand how did we, and by we I mean Americans voted against making history to a man who says he grabs them by their pussy" she said and Marcus busted out laughing.
"Good Lord you are hilarious"
"I am not hilarious Marcus I'm speaking facts. These are straight facts"
"I'm sure they are, coming from a Harvard law graduate I wouldn't expect anything less"
"This has nothing to do with Harvard"
Marcus winked at her "Are you sure?" and that's when Diana blushed and placed her eyes down. Then she looked at her watch and exclaimed.
"Gosh it's nearly midnight. I should be on my way..." she said and started collecting her things.
"Please do let me take you"
"I wouldn't want to trouble you Marcus, you've done a lot already. I'll just take an Uber"
Marcus stood up "Please I insist"
Diana had a close eye to eye contact with Marcus and she looked at how calm he was, he wasn't rushing or uncomfortable he was himself. "All right, let's go" she said and led the way. She passed Martin along the way and Martin nodded at her.
Outside of the hotel there was a black Escalade waiting for them - Marcus opened the back door for Diana and held her hand. "Oh why thank you. You are a gentleman" she said and got inside the car. Marcus stayed with her on the passengers seat while Martin took the wheel and off they headed to Diana's apartment, but still Marcus couldn't keep his eyes off Diana.
