Chapter 39 - A Series of Unplanned Murders

"My queen?" "My queen please wake up." Pleaded Auden as he lightly shook Imogen. "It seems she's not dead, so it's my job to bring her to where she was trying to go and who knows; maybe she'll reward me." Hoped Auden while picking up Imogen with care and walking back to where the light originated.

"This place doesn't seem safe, but it'll have to do as a safe haven for now; we can't brave the acid sea again just yet." Decided Clarence as he looked out into the miles of acid all around.

"Before we set up camp for the night, I'll check around this castle to see if there's anything dangerous lurking in the shadows; I don't know how Imogen can be so damn careless in a world such as this." Sighed Clarence while putting his hungry friend back on his finger.

"This place is in surprisingly good condition for being in an ocean of extremely corrosive acid, nothing seems broken and the arches look like they were just polished yesterday." Noted Clarence as he admired the five arches overhead that were leading to a keep.

"This door looks like it hasn't been opened in ages, I would open it; but they say curiosity killed the Imogen." Smiled Clarence while looking down to see his friend happily sucking on his finger.

"Open the door son, do it and I promise you'll not regret your choice." Grinned a very familiar old man as he shuffled about.

"How did you get here, or have been here all along?" Inquired Clarence while turning to see the old man.

"Whatever makes the most sense to you, it wouldn't be any fun if I just told you outright." Chuckled the old man as he stopped and put Clarence's hand on the door knob. "Open the door and be brave, you only live once after all." Cajoled the old man while watching Clarence hesitate.

"I'm weak right now, if I open the door something could easily kill me." Reasoned Clarence as he took his hand off the knob.

"Look around you boy, if there was something that wanted to kill you in there; it would've broken through that door and done so already." Retorted the old while turning around to leave.

"But it's your life, so by all means, leave and never think about this door again." Chortled the old man as he started walking away. "Leaving this door may be of no problem to you now, but know that sometimes dying is better than carrying regret as you age." Hinted the old man while turning around a corner and vanishing from sight.

"That old man turned a simple choice into an antagonizing problem, I don't even know what to think anymore." Suspired Clarence as he felt his fingers grab onto the door knob.

"Hopefully that old man wasn't some kind of demon trying to trick me into opening the door, because if he was; it worked." Mumbled Clarence while turning the knob and being treated to the sight of a sword on a pedestal.

"The door may not of killed me; but it led me to another awfully difficult choice; which is just as bad." Frowned Clarence as he looked at the beautiful blue metallic sword sitting sideways on the pedestal. "Well little guy, we're going to camp here for the night." Announced Clarence while sitting down and tending to his burnt body.

"So if anything bad comes when I take the sword, we'll at least be able to run away into the acid sea." Explained Clarence as he realized the old man had seen him naked. "Goodnight my friend, I hope you can last just a little while longer without food." Whispered Clarence while laying in wait to fall asleep.

"I always get knocked out, it matters naught what I do; eventually I'll get incapacitated." Exaggerated Imogen as she looked up to see Auden donning some clothes.

"Welcome back to the world of the living my lady, I hope you don't mind that I put on some clothes during your rest." Regarded Auden while putting a hood over his hairless skull.

"No, actually I'm happy that you can still think on your own; but where did you get the clothes?" Questioned Imogen as she looked around the empty hallway.

"A poor fool tried to attack me while you slept. He was muttering something about a beautiful lady, but I didn't see one around; how curious." Alleged Auden while straightening out his clothes.

"Well that hurts a bit, I guess I do look pretty young after all... actually; I don't care in the slightest." Muttered Imogen as she hefted herself up.

"If I may indeed ask, what did you asseverate my lady? Asked Auden while slipping something into his pocket.

"Nothing, don't worry about it; let's continue on our way." Commanded Imogen as she and Auden walked down the plain hallway. "Oh and I've been meaning to ask, why did you change from calling me my queen to my lady?" Questioned Imogen while looking at a strange portrait.

"Have you taken offence my lady, if so I can change my way of speach immediately." Offered Auden as he rubbed his arm and Imogen could've sworn she heard a snicker.

"No, just curious is all; in fact I would prefer it if you talk to me... less formal like." Suggested Imogen while looking at three people ahead of them.

"Then I shall do so, the reason I have called you my lady instead of my queen is because you have no other subjects and no castle from the looks of it; thus my lady is more suitable." Responded Auden as he caught a chandelier that was about to fall on them.

"That makes sense, but didn't I tell you to speak more informally?" Assumed Imogen while smashing some floating portraiture.

"I did, 'tis just how I speak; I'm a bit old fashioned as I've been sitting in a tomb for so very long." Reputed Auden as he popped a bone back in place.

"Outlandish! You were speaking in vulgar tongue before; it seems that you don't speak the whole truth." Speculated Imogen while crushing a mouse's head with her shoe.

"Oh come now, I've heard how you speak in a different manner as well; you're enjoying yourself as much as I." Accused Auden as he snapped someone's neck from behind.

"Yes, you've caught me; but do well to change your way of speech after you've had your fun." Threatened Imogen while blocking an attack and stabbing them through the heart.

"I will oblige as such is my command, it seems that I won't dislike my servitude as much as I thought." Avowed Auden as he relieved the last one of them of her neck.

"Finally, it's the morning little guy; time for me to take that sword." Yawned Clarence while walking over to the sword.

Clarence gave the handle a little tap at first, but after a full minute of absolutely nothing; he took the sword off the pedestal. The ground immediately started to quake, the once shining arches crumbled to the ground and the castle started to return to the sea.

"I called it, no one can say I can't; I'm going to fucking murder that old man!" Raged Clarence as he ran out of the keep like a bat out of hell. "Hopefully I can find the way out this time, or I don't think we'll survive! Hollered Clarence while jumping off the castle and into the sea.

"So we left the war, then what is the purpose of me being The Chosen One if I cannot fight?" Asked The chosen One as he sat down on a log.

"We are continuing the tradition as the Crimson Majesty had picked us and as the last Crimson Ones had picked him." Lied The Crimson Of Tenebrosity while fiddling with a stick

"As the Crimson Majestys are always much stronger than the Crimson Ones and get stronger with each passing generation, that makes you more important than all of us." Falsified The Crimson Of Dawn as he laid down.

"That doesn't make much sense, how do the Crimson Majestys get stronger with each generation?" Questioned The Chosen One while scratching his leg.

"Well it's because he gets smarter each time and soon he will know it all." Explained The Crimson Of Pale as he tried to force a smile.

"You mean me?" Asked The Chosen One while getting a confused look on his face.

"Yes!" "That's exactly what I meant, each time the Crimson Majesty's max brain power breaks its limit!" Coughed The Crimson Of Pale as he gave apologetic looks to his comrades.

"So that means you're very important and will lead us into a new generation, that's why we've left the war." Claimed The Crimson Of Twilight as he patted The Chosen One on the back.

"So you're not really thousands of years old like The Crimson Of Pale had said once before?" Inquired The Chosen One while looking at the Crimson Ones with a questioning glance.

"Of course not, that would be impossible; not even gods can live that long." Phonated The Crimson Of Dawn as he glared at The Crimson Of Pale.
