Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

About almost two hours would pass by before dusk comes. The sky was pretty clear, with no clouds nor any things upon the sky.

Still walking amid the road while keeps holding the sword in her right hand. Her walk was getting sluggish and her eyes are tired of staying open. She was intensely sweating and her lips are now dried.

"Sakar? Was it right to make a promise with that kid?"

Still, the kid was the only one who's in her mind right now. The feeling of guilt and fear are within her heart. She was so worried about the promise that she had made.

She suddenly felt a cold air on her left side that was floating along with her. She knows that this was Sakar.

'In that kind of situation, I guess no...'

"Why do you say so?"

"Humans made promises to make someone feel okay for just a moment and sometimes they made promises for they mean it and striving to commit it. Their promises would possibly make themselves honorable or probably shrink them into disappointment. So... Fontana, did you mean it?"

Fontana bit her lower lip then sighed.

"I don't know..."

'We understand you. Lift your head from the uncertainty that is within this world.'

Fontana stops and bows her head. Looking at the ground while slowly catching her breath with difficulty.

"It is impossible. Even if I try to relax my mind, try to relax everything, you know... It is making me worst, Sakar. Making me worst."

Sakar didn't respond for awhile. This cold air was blowing at her face gently the reason why her hair was floating backward for almost a few seconds.

'Look above, at the west.'

He whispered gently.

A lift of her head was made at the west where she sees the sun. She was a little bit dazzled while looking at the sun.

"What are you up to?"

'Now, you are looking at a magnificent thing in the whole world. What do you observe?'

She thinks deeply while seriously staring at this sun.

"Giving its wonderful sunlight in this world so it could light up the whole world."

'Why is the sun doing it?'

"Tss! Oh, come on, Sakar! It is giving sunlight because it was covered by great incandescent. You're adding more problems again."

'You're not putting yourself into it. Listen to me, Fontana. With its sunlight, it gives hopes and hopes lead to success then success leads to happiness. It gives its sunlight because it was destined to be like that, it was destined to give light to all who's heart was willing for it.'

After hearing all the words that Sakar had spoken she remained silent while still looking at the sun.

'Be a sun... You are made to give hope in this world but before achieving it you need to find that hope first within yourself.'

Fontana slowly bows her head then stares at the ground with a very serious face.

"You knew everything about me."

'Mmmm...'

After a moment of staring at the ground because of critical thinking, she shooked her head then looks forward.

"I should continue, Sakar."

Then she takes steps forward. Her steps were echoing around the place, the only sound which breaks the silence of the surroundings. When she had walked about almost five meters away there was a small stone that suddenly strikes at her upper back. It hurts a little but it doesn't matter, the thing was, 'Who did that?'.

She stopped then turn her sight around.

There was nothing here except dead people. But as she thinks, there was somebody who was here. Somebody had stoned her on purpose.

Stepping forward again while ears are keen.

'Fontana you-'

She stopped Sakar from whispering.

"Shhhhh... Not now."

As she whispered.

A sudden stop had made by her when a transparent container that was full of water rolling closer at her from the right side. Then it rolled slower as it gets closer then stopped exactly at her front feet. She stares for a second at this container of water then turns her sight to the right side.

"I'm sure that you're in thirst."

An old man who has long grey messy hair reaches his shoulder, and wearing off a black fabric at his neck was standing at the right side of this road. His face was covered by dirt and as well as his clothes. He was wearing an old jacket that was color grey too.

Fully turning her body and focus on this old man. She looks at his appearance first then looks at him, eye to eye. As he sees this old man's eyes she could determine that he means what he just said.

She picked up the container and opened the cap then drink all the water. Fontana was very thirsty. That water was not enough for her to cease her thirst. She put down this empty container then looks at this old man.

"Thank you."

She said.

This old man just looks at her carefully then speaks.

"Journeying onward?"

It seems like she doesn't want to answer that so she bows her head. When this old man noticed that he has no answer to wait for him, he starts to walk closer to Fontana then stopped when he was almost a meter away from her.

"Why did you drink the water?"

He asked seriously.

Fontana suddenly lifted her head then looked at him. She was so confused about his question and a little bit shocked.

'Is he insane?'

As she thinks.

Her eyes now were wide open and can't attempt to open her mouth for she doesn't know what to say. Indeed, she never craves disputations. A more confusion appeared within her when she had witnessed this old man's sudden laugh.

"W-why are you laughing?"

She was thinking that maybe this old man was making fun of her and maybe there was something about the water that she had already intake.

"You put poison on it?"

Then this old man stopped laughing and face her in seriousness.

"No, do you get a lesson from it?"

Her eyebrows were almost attached.

"You must get a lesson from it."

"What are you talking about?"

This old man sighed.

"You need more concentration on everything that surrounds you. Drinking the water without the assurance of safeness? You'll surely be defeated easily. Be observant, always."

She was being astonished by this old man. He was kind of suspicious.

"Who are you? Why are you telling that?"

He took a one-step forward while Fontana slowly took a one-step backward too.

"I knew that this time would come. I've waited for this to come that one day there would be a one-person who'll rise towards the majestic place. I've suffered so greatly. And right now, I am truly grateful to see you..."

A tear drops slowly from his eye then a smile appeared on his face.

Fontana was still confused. She feels that there was something about her past that needs to be unlocked.

It was like this man had touched softly her heart even if she didn't know his travails.

After about a moment of silence, he slowly put his right hand to his coiled fabric at his neck. Fontana wondered about his behavior.

"What are you doing?"

She said worriedly.

There was no response from him. He pulls slowly the fabric from her neck then Fontana noticed what he was up to.

"Stop it! I said stop it!"

She ran quickly towards him and had tried to stop him from pulling his fabric from his neck but it was too late. He throws away the fabric as fast as he could. And when Fontana knows that it was too late she immediately hugged him tight and looked away from his neck.

"Don't do this, please... I'm tired of fighting against my conscience. Please... Don't add it."

"Conscience will bother you more if you will not going to do this. I want to rest in peace..."

"No, this isn't the right way."

"It is..."

Fontana knows that it's impossible to change his decision now but she cannot bear to kill another again. She didn't notice that her tears are dropping now. She remembered the other persons who were been slain by her.

"No... No... It isn't."

Fontana almost sits on the ground when he suddenly pushed her hard but luckily she had managed to balance herself from falling. With that situation, she unintentionally saw his tattoo.

"A dog?..."

A memory of a man that she had slain when she was just a kid was appearing. She remembered it because of this same tattoo. She was getting hotter and her mind was in a great mess. An unintentional released of her sword was made then it made a sound that keeps echoing in her mind. Her head was now aching. She holds her head with her both hands and pressed it.

After a few seconds, finally, the monster within her had successfully governed her. She looks at this old man sharply while he was just staying there and willingly waiting for her attack.

'Fontana... Fontana, you must control yourself.'

As Sakar tries to awaken her from her other-self. But it was no use.

'Fontana stop!'

She quickly near this old man and bites his neck severely. He groans because of intense pain and a tear was slowly dropping from his eye.

"It's okay... Finally, I can rest."

Then he smiled.

"Save the world."

As he whispers at her.

After those words, Fontana slowly stopped from sipping and eating his flesh in the neck.

'Seek for the truth and aim goodness... Thy soul and flocks shall be free.'

These words from the first victim that she had slain popped up in her mind and it keeps repeating.

She took a few steps backward, getting away from this old man. She felt dizzy which leads to sitting down on the ground.

*Bogsh*

She was very shocked when heard that sound. The old man had fallen to the ground. Turning slowly to his direction while heartbeats fast.

Her tears are the ones who are telling how much she felt with that old man.

"H-hurray! You've d-done it..."

She crawls slowly towards his direction and sits beside him.

"You're unfair. You made me do it and now I am the one who is continuously suffering. I'm truly a monster. I'm a predator..."

And she weeps truly.

"N-no. Never think like that... Look at me now. I am free."

Fontana calmed herself then looks straight at him.

"What is your name, old man?"

Despite his situation, he can still chuckle.

"Old man?..."

Then he sighed.

"A moment would come and realize that time would fastly pass by like a lightning in the sky."

He said and looks at her.

"I am Lorenzo Arthur. Y-you will surely know me more soon..."

"What do you mean?"

"Can I know your name then hug me for the last time for them?"

Confused about everything and wondering what was her connection with this man, if there was.

"I am Fontana Marie Swundes."

She smiled pretty well.

"My pleasure to hear it again."

While closing his eyes.

"A-again? W-why? Why did you say again? You knew who I am?..."

She waits for him to respond but he was not moving anymore. A quick hug from her was made unto him.

'He died with great pleasure.'

Sakar whispered again.

"Avoiding unwanted situations is getting difficult."

Still hugging this old man's dead body.

The cold air blows throughout the surroundings and the sun were ready to depart from this side of the world. Another night again to spend. The sound of the crows is appearing and are floating because of strong blew of wind and as well as papers and other light materials. It was getting cold again.

The moon and thousands of stars are now visible above the sky.

Fontana was staring at this old man's dead body even if it was blurred for her to see. Then after awhile, she lays down beside him and looks at the sky.

"Peace for me right now is momentary."

She said softly then sighed.
