Light began to wonder why soul transfer only worked for the two of them. She wondered if it had anything to with the fact that they came from another world and if that too played a role in having the two soul types that had been unknown forever until now. Light began to think about her past and what had led her to go into soulology. It was not far off from why Emily and Jakub were so interested. It was because it wasn't a normal thing for her.
Light wasn't normally from this world either and it's not that she had come from another world it was because she was part of the opposing faction against the reapers. Patricia Light is what is known as a Valkyrie. They are also a harbinger of death and she wasn't brought from another world to be one in a human form. She was sent by their leader to investigate the reapers suspicious movements. She is the sole Valkyrie that was sent to Lotte several years back and has not received any backup. Meeting Emily and Jakub, two reapers sent by reapers to take care of reapers, she felt, was fate. She felt this would be her turning point.
Light turned to her side and looked Nicole in the eyes. She raised her hand to Nicole's forehead.
"You look ill, are you not feeling well?" She asked.
Nicole seemed confused. "I'm okay, I don't feel sick at-"
"Sleep." Light spoke this word, interrupting Nicole in the middle of her sentence.
Nicole started to fall, Light caught her and laid her on the ground. Both Emily and Jakub stood there as if they were ready to fight.
"I'm not your enemy, hear me out please." Light turned toward the two.
"Then tell us what the hell you're doing." Replied Jakub.
"I'm a Valkyrie, we oppose the reapers in a contest for souls in this world. I was sent to investigate their activity in Lotte several years ago but have yet to really uncover anything. You two managed to find and kill a reaper within a day of being here. Don't worry about Nicole, she'll wake up in a little bit. It's an ability of my Twilight. They're a human spirit that makes a deal to work for a Valkyrie. Mine can induce sleep or raise adrenaline. I want to work with you to figure out what these ones you called heartless are up to. My actual name is just Light."
The two of them became confused by the whole situation and didn't recall Elena ever telling them about Valkyries.
"Your twilight… can a grim sense it?" Emily asked.
"What is a Grim?" Light replied
"Grim's give us powers as a reaper, just like your twilight does for you." Jakub informed her.
"Ah, yes if it has the same benefits of a harbinger of death's abilities it should be able to sense if it is not just for a short time." She replied.
"So then we've been censing you those times before. It all makes sense now." Said Emily.
"Working with you is fine with us. But why did you knock out Nicole." Jakub asked.
"Well." She said while being hesitant. "I love her and haven't been able to tell her about me. And it would hurt too bad if she wouldn't accept me.
The two of them stared in awe. They were trying to make sense of it all but knew that Light would be an ideal teammate. So they agreed to work with her and they agreed to not tell Nicole anything.
Nicole began to wake up, Light had Nicole's head on her lap as she was opening her eyes. Nicole looked around and then looked up noticing where she was, her face turned red from embarrassment and she sat up.
"What happened?" Nicole asked everyone.
"You fainted and were unconscious for about a minute or two. I'm glad you're okay." Replied Light.
Emily suggested that they should keep looking around for clues about what else Tress was up to. As they continued to look around the lab they found blood samples from students he had taken souls from. Next to the samples they found reports that stated blood had no effect on the soul type but concluded that certain soul types could affect blood. He had found that Orange soul types could manipulate blood to be used in many ways but that was their only ability, that they could manipulate their own blood in various ways. He went on to explain the other effects but it was of little to no importance.
Emily's wings had gone away a little bit before Light knocked out Nicole. She could still feel the warm sensation of where they were and she still wasn't sure how to even bring them out.
"Emily, about your wings. I believe Nicole and I could be of assistance with that. She's taken classes with me on how to properly train a soul student. Most kids nowadays grow up knowing their soul type and get to learn as they grow. You two on the other hand are going to need all the help you can get." Light spoke as if she could read Emily's mind.
"Can you rea-"
"Read your mind? No I can't. Hehe. I can just tell what you're thinking because you're reaching for your back." Light interrupted.
"I still have no idea what's going on with my hands or body." Said Jakub.
"You sound like you're going through puberty there bud." Emily responded.
Jakub gave Emily a rude look as Emily just burst into laughter and was joined by the other two.
"Yeah yeah yeah. I guess it sounded like I was talking about that I guess. But you know what I meant." He replied.
The four agreed that the room had nothing else of importance in it and that they would continue their tour of the soulology wing. They walked room to room looking in on classes that were very small in number of students. Light told them not many kids found interest in studying to be anything other than military or police nowadays. They wanted free reign to use their abilities and that's what the two gave them. A lot of kids went against the grain, formed gangs and violent mafias that took over major parts of the city, but they were hard to find anything about. Light leaned toward Emily and Jakub, whispering that she believed reapers were in control of all of these gangs. She believed that is where the three of them should start if they want to find out what the reapers were up to.
The tour of the university went well and they planned to use the soulology studies as their new life. Emily and Jakub were going to start school and learn more about the future world technologies. They're going to have to fully acclimate themselves to this world so what better than college life.
"Are we heading back to your dad's office?" Emily asked Nicole
Nicole nodded. "Yeah we're gonna go talk to him and see if everything is situated. Maybe he'll want to grab lunch with us!"
As they headed toward the office Jakub couldn't let go of this unsettling feeling in his stomach. He was trying to figure out what was causing it as they continued. They walked into the office where Nicole's father sat facing the window behind his desk.
"Dad! We're back, did everything go okay?" She asked. She received no response and walked toward the seat to check it. Her father sat in the seat with a hole in his chest where his heart was. Nicole dropped to her knees covering her mouth and burst into tears. She looked around and noticed all of the blood on the ground. Emily ran to her and grabbed her. She turned her face to her chest to stop her from starring.
Jakub couldn't shake the unsettling feeling. The ground shook, Jakub and Light turned toward each other. "Someone is out front." Said Light after feeling the slam. The two walked out while Emily stayed to comfort Nicole.
"Ah I felt the presence of Harbingers, but I sensed three. There's only two of you, where's the other?" A shady looking man with glasses, dark black hair and a smug look on his face stood in front of them. "You should never have brought humans into this… you brought his death on. You should not have killed Christian either, you killed my brother and will pay for it. Don't worry we're in a Hollow Zone, I'm sure they told you about the way to stop humans from seeing reapers fight. Can't let them see our Grim's right?"
"You'll pay for what you've done" Light said infuriated that this man killed the father of the person she loved. "I'LL KILL YOU!"
The man grinned. "I am Nicholas Tress. I will avenge my brother. This was only the beginning, I'm going to take everything from you. I'm going to tear your world down and that is a promise from the leader of Reign. I'll be seeing you!"
Nicholas vanished from right in front of them. The unsettling feeling vanished along with him. The two walked back inside where Emily still held Nicole as she was crying. Light walked over and put her hand on Emily. "Let me…" she said.
"It was the brother of Doctor Tress… he did this." Jakub told Emily.
Emily balled her hand into a fist. "He won't get away with this, he'll suffer."
"He said he was the leader of a gang called Reign." Jakub told her.
Emily's eyes went wide. "They were a gang in my world. I'm pretty sure that was the gang responsible for the break and my death. For them to exist here… I can get my payback while getting hers. We'll need to investigate them and take them down piece by piece."
Jakub agreed, Light overheard them and also agreed with them.
