Chapter 1 - Chapter #001 - Are You Afraid Of Spiders?

In the dense overpopulated area of Yore, there comes a time where a change in time would happen. Filth, greedy merchants and thievery. Such is a common sight of this place. This place used to be a lovely place. An area of industrial factories and the creation of many magical wonders.

Over time, with the introduction of the Third Monarch, this town became a hellhole. Brothels weren't the only thing consuming the lust of man, but also the slavery of poor people and the judgemental pains of lower and higher hierarchy. This place looks different when I was born. This place left and right will be flourished with flora of various species, made and taken care of by the girl next door that will soon be next to me in my lovely small yet useful apartment. A lovely maiden she will be. How mature and maidenly.

But I have no time to interact with her. I am just but a man who is obsessed with my work. My work, you ask? I am a scientist of the GIT-U or in its original sentencing, the Grand International Technology University. This place would be built in the next ten years from now by Your Majesty, Queen Eliza of Yore.

Originally a little peasant brought up from these dirty streets. She would soon marry into a lovely royal family which will bring upon the peace that would soon become.

My name is Ryuu Conundrum. A middle-class scientist that spends most of his time in his apartment or the GIT-U. I have finally managed to make use of my latest creation, The Watch Of Conundrum, or the T.W.O.C as I shall call it from now on. I have managed to go back in time to solve a problem that has been trouble I witnessed during my age of growth which will happen in the next hundred years from now.

I am now dressed in a ragged cloak, disguising myself from the lavish white lab coat I have donned which twinkled in glossy blue, gold and crimson red specks of ornaments. With my hidden watch in hand, I am now walking through the old streets of Yore as I shall find my first target from my to-do list.

This target isn't like any other from these filthy humans. This target isn't scary as to how the town-crier calls it to be. This one is pretty clean, efficient and quick about its minded actions. Intelligence is only but a compliment of an understatement.

As I walk through the busy streets, I hear drunkards shouting and moaning towards a silhouette of a being who was being cornered in the dim alleyways of Drunk Man's Street, befitting for its name for its particular residents.

Shuffling myself through a small crowd of watchful eyes, I took a step forward as I stood behind the two drunkards who were scolding a little poor lass who hid in the corner as she covered as much of her cover as she could in the cobwebs of these little place she called home.

"You piece of shite!" The drunk man shouted as he hurled an empty bottle of cheap malt towards the wall beside the figure. As I felt pitiful for what the lass has been going through, I waited for a chance that I could interfere. "You are the one around town that has been kidnapping our children, yes! Eating them and torturing them as they slept. You will pay!"

In these drunk man ramblings words, these being has been so-called causing quite a ruckus in town. But unfortunately, what he said was wrong. What the lass was doing was mere taking better care of the children in her little nest. I could see a small foot poking out under her cloak as she muttered softly. "No, that is not...true."

Being over-armed by the loud kerfuffle of these uneducated villagers, she was barely heard from this overaggressive crowd. As I watched her suffer for the next few minutes, one of the men made a move. A move that slowly pissed me off.

Slowing grabbing the lass roughly, her cloak was ripped roughly as a curvaceous figure soon appeared in the views of these perverse eyes. "Hoowee, we shall make good work out of her." One of the men catcalled as he tries to near the figure.

These figure as stated wasn't like humans. Eyes of sharpness and a few unnatural eyes growing on her forehead, she had sharp teeth as dangerous as razors as she wept slowly. She was an Arachnid. A species of semi-humans evolved from a mix of human and spider genes. I first wondered how a human copulated with a spider to create a species such as this but it was stated in the history books of my time that the first was a man who tried himself an experiment of alchemy to create a poison cure through the works of injecting himself with altered spider genes aeons ago even before this time I am currently in.

Which in weird circumstances, he still managed to get back his actual self and consciousness and still managed to get the girl of his dreams, which caused a drastic event of just an increase in humanoid-arachnids spawning about in numbers.

The lass wept as she kept repeating the men to stop holding onto her other legs as she tried to fight them through her magical web shots that sprung out of her bums and hands. One by one as she failed her shots due to exhaustion, I had no choice. It was my time to intervene.

Patting the shoulder of the drunkard man who was gripping the lass's arm tight, he got distracted and turned his face towards me. Grunting and burping onto my face like a lower class as he is, I took a chance by using the pebble I had on my free hand and smashing it onto his face.

With a loud moan of pain, the crowd stood quiet as the man's nose started to bleed and drip crimson red.

He screamed at me as he held his nose, letting go of the lass as she watched me under her small slit eyes that reflected off a purple tinge. "Who the fuck are you, you little twat! What was that for?" He questioned as his henchman of sorts tried to circle me.

"Get im'!" The drunkard commanded as they then try to catch hold of me. With a powerful leap using a device that altered my shoes with anti-gravity, I then stepped on top of one of the balding scalp of the figure as I acted as a bastion for the poor Arachnid.

"What the? Sorcery, He is a mage!" One of the villagers shouted in surprise as the drunkards got their attention.

"A mage?! He must be one of those adventurers from The Guild. Filthy bastard, you shall pay for your insolence!" The henchman shouted as he smacks a bottle, causing it to shatter in sharp piercings. Sprinting towards me and the person I was protecting, I grinned in my sly manner as I then activate the barrier of the Hold Shield my Watch projected.

"Ugh!" He grunts as he falls back from his failed trial. Still holding onto his bottle, I noticed he cut his arm at the process for his faulty procedure of attack.

"Leave this girl alone!" I shouted as the villagers in front of me watched as I raised my voice. The drunkards confused, scratched their head as they look at each other in disbelief.

"You do realize she's one of those monsters! Are you mad?! You know what these things are capable of!" The drunkard shouts at me as he points towards the lass. "These THING kidnaps children and eats them when their mother is asleep. Have you read too many books and gone bonkers?"

"Oh shut up!" I shouted back at the man as I turned and a gave sly smile towards the Arachnid as she was breastfeeding a human child as she stood in shock and awe. Turning back to him, I shook my head in disgust.

"You don't realize, these people are humans too, well was! They have feelings just like us but I believe uneducated fools like you will never realize!"

"You must have got a screw loose, mate." One of the henchmen replies as he nods towards his drunkard of a leader. They were planning something. "Once we catch hold of this monster, we will then send her to the dungeon with help of our mayor and torture her until she breathes her last breath, you hear me!"

Non-threatening aside to my head, I watched them closely as I notice one of them pulling out a dagger from his pocket. They were bandits. Thieves and rats are known around this town. They took advantage of anything just for money and don't dare even freeing a look on their feminine targets.

Yes, I may be a little dumb for helping this lass with my rather lanky state. But hear this, with my devices, my intellect and my training I had back in boot camp which overcomes my limits, I am confident enough to say, this will be my victory.

In the coordinated procedure, the drunkards decided to attack me from left and right. Thinking I am a cornered rat, I then wrapped my arms around the Arachnid as I then jumped over the same henchman to give myself a little boost. Fooled him twice, that was for sure.

Landing upon the roof, I let go of the lass, as I then intentionally let myself fall with a leap of grace as I then ready my weapons. "Oh, this is going to hurt!" I shouted with a maniacal laugh as I swiftly disappeared.

"Fuck sake! Sir, are you sure you want to fight with one of those adventurer mates?!" The panicking henchman stuttered in his sentence as he looks left and right quickly. "Sir!"

"I don't know, we got ourselves in trouble and he probably wants our bounties too but we have to fight this, FOR THE CLAN!" The leader shouts as he watches one of his henchmen stood still with an emotionless face. "Werrin, you alright? Werrin!"

Non-responsive, they then noticed a small slit appeared on the poor man's neck as he then spurts blood. Watching in slight shock, the leader then grips tightly on his knife as he watched his other partners carefully. "Werrin! Man, on guard. We got an agile one!"

The villagers in a panic, scurried left and right as they shouted and screamed at the top of their lungs.

"Adventurers! Adventurers have come to plunder, run, hide!" A market shop owner alerted the crowd as she rang the bell of her shop. Closing her window, the others followed her commands as they then entered their homes and locked every small gap that they had in their little nook and cranny huts and apartments.

Watching each other's backs, They then see me appear before them.

"Why, hello there. Fancy to see your faces again." I teased them with a grinning smile as I stood in my position, twirling the fancy glowing dagger of my time. Arming my other freehand with my custom-made Aluminium Bat. They were shocked to see my expensive-looking weapons and attire.

The leader took a step back as he then commands his henchman to attack me. Doing so, I grinned and taunted them before readying my daggers and throwing it towards a wall, thinking I missed, they laughed at me before it ricocheted off the wall and pierced through their napes as they fell one by one.

"What's so funny, hah?" I caught my dagger as I then holster it quickly before using the chance to deflect the bade attack of the leader and his last henchman who attacked me head-on. As I took every hit, I riposte my attacks as I then overpowered them with a bludgeoning strike with my bat.

Noticeably crushing the rib cage of the last pitiful henchman, he moans in pain as he held his bleeding chest, as he then tumbles like rotten weed dying to the lack of oxygen and moisture.

Giggling, the leader stood in terror as he watched me walk towards him slowly with my bloody face and bat.

"So what did you say about what you wanted to do to the girl?" I asked him as I closed my eye-lids and smiled innocently at him.

"You're crazy...." He whispers as she took a step back, posturing himself in a defensive position as he held his little flimsy dagger. "You don't know what you....are doing."

"I sure am crazy," I replied as I laughed once more as I wiped my bat, watching him in shock. "But YOU don't know what you are doing. You are the one causing most of the trouble. Your head cost a lovely fee and I am not wanting the money. She is."

Not responding to my words, he did not realize his legs were sprayed with webs as he was unable to move.

Trying to pull himself free by plucking a hair of sticky thread one by one. I watched as the Arachnid jumps down from the roof as her fangs opened up with her red glowing eyes. Using her 4 remaining free hands to hold onto the baby, she then uses her two sharp splinters of fingers and gouges his eyes out.

Screaming in immense pain, he then gets stabbed through the chest in quick succession before biting down onto his neck. Sucking up his blood for nutrition, she uses one of her free hands and sprays webs into his web, causing him to suffocate and gurgle before passing out and bleeding to death.

Licking her lips seductively, she wipes off the delicious blood she quenched before cradling the baby with a smile.

"Sleep, little darling..." She whispers as she then looks at me with her eight pair of blinking traffic lights. Smiling, she then nears me and whispers her thanks before holding my arm and pulling me away from the bloody commotion.

...

Walking through a dense forest, I guided the Arachnid as she stayed quiet as she played with the cheerful baby. Watching once in a while, as she smiled in happiness and motherly affection. I then decided to break her shell of quietness by asking her a few questions.

"What they said was not true. The baby-snatcher was a man who wanted to sell them for money. You were just one of the many victims of monster girls that had to be targeted, ain't it?" I questioned with a friendly and subtle tone as I wiped my bat clean.

Nodding slowly, she looks at me with a single blink of her three pairs of eyes before smiling. "Yes, that is true. How did you know?" She asks.

"I did my research. I am not from around here so I know a thing or two during my patrol around these parts. That baby you have there. That was one of the children that were last to survive before that snatcher was killed." I replied.

"Uh-hmm. That is true. This little child was crying for her mother and I felt so much pain in my heart that I had to do something about it." She explains as she lets the baby suckle on one of her fingers to soothe it. "I guess, you also know who killed the evil man too."

Nodding slowly in an affirmative fashion, I then pushed away from the fern that was blocking our path as we ended up in an open field. Looking empty at first, she looks at me with a little surprise.

"You told me you had a home here. Were you lying to me?" she questioned me as she acted on defense as I noticed her fangs opening up.

Raising slowly my palm to her, I smiled. "Relax, Arachnid. Here, let me show you." With a wave of my palm in a very conductive way similar to musical symphonies.

A blue barrier appears as it then disperses into twinkling stars. Attracted with the shiny, the baby tries to reach her hand towards the aura as it giggled in playful happiness.

An odd-shaped little house appeared as it was painted in multiple colourful shades of hues. Pink, brown, red and also yellow, Its base was made of redwood as it had a small garden filled with pots of suppose to be endangered plants in the future and as well as a table with chairs surrounding it with an umbrella shade to sit and rest on.

Amazed by the house's architecture, she follows me as I reached towards the entrance there. Standing still, I inhaled softly before knocking it three times.

"Welcome to the Guardian's Inn. A house meant to shelter the semi-humans to coexist with the friendly humans." I exclaimed as the door slowly opened with a fluff of ears poking out of the door's sides.

"Ooh who could that be?!" A curious voice asked as a figure of a half-cat, half-human figure pokes her teasing eyes and lips before hopping onto me and giving me a hug and a few face rubs.

Tilting her head slightly, she looks at the spider lady as she smiles. "Ooh, a new visitor! Welcome welcome!" As she meowed in sheer happiness, she bows to the lady before guiding her in.

"My name is Nia Faltinguard. I am the receptionist of The Guardian's Inn. Welcome! The man over there, my master, is the founder of this Inn. May I know what is your name, miss?" Poking the cute baby that was slowly sleeping, she guided the lady towards her room that will be magically forming personally for her.

"Aria of the Arachnids." The spider of a lass opens her mouths and answers. "Aria Higanbana from East-side."

"Nice to meet you!" The cat-girl meows before I let myself in with a succeeded entry.

As I watched the many figures occupying the lobby and the many functional rooms that were available, I slowly closed the door as I muttered. "I am home."

"Welcome back, Ryuu!" I was greeted back by multiple voices as they continued their business.
