Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

Darian paced the length of the hallway for the umpteenth time, coming to a horrible realisation, his entire days were filled up with Jaxon and Leo and now that neither of them were around, he had no idea of what to do with himself.

He found himself in his apartment once again, just standing in a corner of his living room like a simm.

It was ridiculous, he was accustomed to spending time by himself, never really the one for friends while growing up.

Which meant that if he wasn't with his family then he was all by himself so what exactly was going on just then?

It was starting to get pretty annoying when he paced the entire length of his house unable to sit still for some reason, he refused to accept that it could be jealousy.

Did it irritate him that Leon was the first to take Jaxon on a date? Hell yeah. Did that mean he was jealous? Of course not.

Besides, he was going to be the one to take Jaxon out on a date next, thinking about that he should probably call his mom to say he wouldn't be able to make it to the family dinner.

This was a dream situation, for his mother at least. It was the only reason he would be allowed to opt out of family dinner so he was going to go for it, without hesitation.

Also, maybe he wanted to rub it in his mother's face a little bit that he could always get a date if he wanted, her reaction to his announcement slightly terrified him in advance though.

But at this point, he would take anything above sitting and sulking over the absence of the major people in his life, which was mostly Jaxon, Leon was a nuisance all of the time.

It was Saturday, it could be busy, he just hoped he didn't catch her at a bad time.

Dia picked on the second ring. "Hi, baby… wait." She cut him off before he could reply. "You never call me so often, don't tell me you want to cancel on family dinner?" She asked without hesitation, sounding defeated and forlorn.

"No!" He replied quickly without thinking, wanting to protect her from being sad even though he was the cause of it. "I mean yes but… but not for the reasons you think." He was quick to correct.

The bubble that had been inflating inside of Dia popped again. "What is it this time? The Alpha needs you for something important?" She asked, managing to not sound sarcastic because as much as she disapproved of her first son's affinity to being alone all the time, she loved the Alpha of her pack.

"Actually, it's not that this time." He refused, scratching his cheek nervously.

Dia blinked in surprise at this from her own end, smiling distractedly when Heather walked behind her and sneaked a kiss on her cheek "Then what is it?" She asked a tad impatiently, already getting tired of being in the dark.

"I'm going on a date tomorrow." He finally said, waiting with bated breath for his mother's reaction.

After the longest of moments of nothing but silence, Darian started to get worried. "Mom?"

"Sweet goddess, by all things loving and fair, did you just say what I think you did?"

"Well…"

"This is marvelous news!" She cut him off without letting him confirm or deny, laughing happily. "Tell me, who is it? Or wait, don't, You are not busy now are you? Come pay your sweet mother a little visit at her little bakery shop." She tittered sweetly. "I can get all the details over a shared cup of jasmine tea and Heather's black berry muffins."

Darian wasn't as averse to this idea as he thought, it was a welcome distraction, besides, it was his mom, he always wanted to see his mom.

"Alright mom, I'll be there soon." He agreed easily.

"Splendid… oh Heather? Sweetheart…"

Darian winced, his mom barely let him hang up before she was running off to share the good news with her wife, which was expected.

Well, he had already promised her that he would show up, he had better be getting ready to leave because now that he had promised her that he was coming, she would be calling nonstop to check till she could touch him.

Making one last trip around his apartment, he grabbed the keys to his car and made his way out.

The Pack House was always in a flurry during the weekends because most of the Pack members were around then.

He might have had to report in for the weekend meetings that the Warriors occasionally held but the Warriors had refused their presence, saying that they would be gone soon and they wanted to practice how to handle things in their absence.

Members of the Pack greeted him enthusiastically, the children waving happily at him, he mostly just nodded to show that he acknowledged their presence.

The one part of being the Head Warrior that he could never adjust to was how people just seemed to know him, that was a social hazard for a person who preferred to blend into the background.

He got to the parking lot in one piece, mostly occupied with thoughts of how his visit with his mother was going to go to pay any attention to what was happening around.

He did not doubt her support, that had never been an issue, he just felt like she would let her excitement get the best of her and embarrass him but in a good way.

He got into his car just as his phone rang for the first time since his first conversation with his mother. Honestly, he was surprised that she was able to keep it in for so long, he had been expecting her to call sooner.

"Hi mom…"
