Chapter 32 - Chapter 32

By the time they got to the car, Leon was piggybacking Jaxon who complained that his feet hurt.

Honestly, Leon was surprised that he had held out for that long.

It was early evening when they started the drive back, Jaxon chattering away happily about what had happened during their date.

It was refreshing to hear him talk about things that didn't relate to work or the Pack.

Leon drove slowly, wanting the moment to last for an eternity, he would give a lot to just sit in his car, headed nowhere as long as Jaxon was by his side, wearing a black, cat ears headband and rummaging through what they had bought with a wide smile, freckles on his sunwarmed face.

Back at the Pack House, Darian had long returned from his mother's bakery where Heather had handed him a fancy basket full of heart shaped brownies.

He would have preferred telling Jaxon personally about his invitation for a date but he realised that he had no idea when they would be done and he would rather slit his throat with a blunt knife than call them to find out.

When he came back from his mother's bakery and realised that they were still not back yet, his mind was made up.

It would be odd to ask face to face after Jaxon just returned from his date so he decided instead to leave a little gift in his apartment.

How he got in was unimportant, what was of ultimate importance now was Jaxon's reaction, it would hurt if he got turned down.

Never fall in love again kind of hurt, Jaxon wasn't the type of person you got over, falling for him came with a sinking feeling that there was no going back from it.

He had no complaints concerning that though.

Darian had lunch alone, choosing to retire to the balcony, to avoid company.

He didn't need to try that hard though because while he didn't notice it, his expression was one that was full of murderous intent, no one was interested in getting to know that more.

To him, he was just relieved that he could finally sit still, maybe he had been worried about how to go about asking Jaxon on a date the entire time.

That was a strange thing to be, he hummed to himself but it wasn't like he had much practice at it.

His peaceful watching of the sky and the forest skyline gradually faded away the later it got, ants crawled up his thighs and there were pins in his spine.

Why weren't they back yet? Would they even come back at all? What if they went to a hotel or something? Why did his chest feel so tight all of a sudden?

This dragged on until evening and he had stopped bothering to check if they had come back or not, if Jaxon saw his little gift, he would know and right then, that was all that mattered.

More than a little depressed, he pushed himself up to his feet and made his way back to his apartment, he might just find a snack and sleep early because being awake was nothing but torture.

Distracted, he made his way down the hallway, so deep in thought that he did not notice someone coming from the opposite direction till he ran directly into them.

"Leo?"

Jaxie hurried to his apartment, giddy with happiness and more than a little tired.

It had been a busy day after all, filled with a lot of walking too so he had every right to be as tired as he was, especially for someone like him who barely left the Pack House.

He was also hungry, Leon had asked if he would like lunch but he had instead opted for snacks, saying that he would eat at the Pack House.

Which he would because dinner was in a mere couple hours, dinner would be a bit stifling because he just knew that he would be the center of attention.

Although he was distracted and had immediately gone straight to his room to unload the treasures of the day, his hunger perhaps amplified his sense of smell because he found himself drifting out to the living room one more time, a sweet scent calling to him.

He found himself in the kitchen staring at a basket of what looked to be filled with brownies and flowers.

Were those… white orchids?

Whoever got them for him knew him well because that was a factor of his scent, breaking out of his initial surprise, he took a step forward to inspect it.

Not like it would hold a bomb, at least not one of the exploding kind because it held a handmade card, tied delicately to the flowers with a glittery silver string.

The delicious smell of the brownies, even stronger than his curiosity, was enough to pull him forward and the first thing he did was to reheat the brownies, placing them in the microwave and turning the device on.

Then he returned to the flowers and the card, the flowers did not look too wilted so while this hadn't been dropped off recently, it hadn't been too long either.

He could guess who it could be but he pushed when he would open up the card to the very last moment, basking in the exhilaration.

The microwave dinged just as he found a book to keep the orchids in, it was too late to put them in water now.

He hurried back to the kitchen to take out the brownies, pouring himself a glass of milk and carrying them all on a tray, the card sitting snugly on it as well.

There was still a while before it would be time for dinner so he could binge on the brownies.

He had held out for long enough now and immediately rushed for the card as soon as he sat down in the living room.

Too impatient now to slowly read through and enjoy every carefully written word, he just scanned through, feeling his heart throb like it wasn't lodged in his chest but that he held it in his hands.

It was from Darian, somehow after having a nonexistent romantic life for all of his life, he managed to get asked out twice by two different people in two days.

What made it better was that he was actually attracted to those two people.

With his curiosity sated, he sat back with a smile, biting into one heart shaped brownie, this was nice.
