Chapter 22 - Buying Lumber

Rushing to the Inn, Sydra felt as if he was about to explode.

'Please, not again, I ate less this time than last time so it shouldn't be as bad, right?' Sydra though, as he pushed open the doors to the Inn and ran to his room. All people saw as he passed by was a black and gold blur. Slamming open his bathroom door, and ripping the toilet seat off of the toilet, Sydra had made.

"Room service?" called out a timid voice outside his room, scaring Sydra.

"Ahh, Not right now!!" Sydra called back hurriedly before he felt something slam into his back door. "What the hell, why does it feel like a battering ram," he yelled, scaring the maid into running away.

'A battering ram? What feels like a battering ram? I better get Martha to check on him.' the young maid thought as she scurried down the hallway to the maid quarters. "Martha, one of the guests is yelling something about a battering ram in their bedroom, should we help out?" The young maid, Beth, asked Martha when she saw her.

"Which room is it coming from?" Martha asked worried, but for a completely different reason than Beth thought.

"I believe it was coming from room thirteen, I was doing my afternoon room checks when I heard someone in the bathroom of that room groaning. I hurried here as quickly as I could after that," Beth explained.

"Not again! We ought to kick that guest out of here!" Martha yelled as she stormed out of the maid quarters and towards room thirteen. Banging the door open, she stormed in and started pounding on the bathroom door. "If you clog up that toilet again, I will kill you! I don't care if you gave me a hairbrush or not, you are dead!" She yelled, scaring Beth who was standing behind her.

"I'm sorry, it is not my fault. I swear, please don't kill me." Sydra called back out of the bathroom. He had almost been done before the madwoman had started banging on his door. How could he take a dump in peace if there was a demoness on the other side of such a thin door? Looking around, Sydra saw a window and decided to escape from the Inn without finishing his stay there.

"I'm sorry, I'll be going now!" Sydra yelled as he somehow finished up, cleaned his hands, unlocked the door, and escaped through the window. After landing on the ground, he heard the door slam open behind him as Martha barged in. Then he heard a thump, as poor Beth fell onto the floor convulsing from the smell.

'I'm glad I left five gold coins, I hope that makes up for the terrible sin I have committed.' Sydra thought as he ran far away. Traveling for a few minutes, Sydra decided to head to the lumber mill and buy the woods he needed to start building his palace on the island. Upon reaching the lumbermill, Sydra was surprised to see Martha's husband, the lumberjack there. Walking up to him, Sydra noticed just how big of a man he really was.

"Excuse me, how do I purchase lumber from here?" Sydra asked, stopping the man. When the man saw who was talking to him he broke out into a large grin.

"Why if it isn't the guy who can create lumber from food, why do you need to buy lumber?" The man asked, looking down at Sydra. The guy looked like a tree more than Sydra did, as he was towering over him.

"I'm trying to build a place, and I need lumber for walls and stuff. As much as you can sell me." Sydra said, backing up so he wouldn't be in looking into the guy's nose.

"Well, you're actually in luck. We had been saving up a lot of lumber and other materials for this one guy's mansion that we were hired to build, but at the last moment, he backed out of the deal. Something about life being too short, and wanting to become an adventure. The guy was in his sixties, and a normal human so I can understand his feelings of life being too short. Did you want to see the materials?" The man asked, looking at Sydra as if he was a saving grace.

"Sure, I actually needed to buy the other things too, so I wouldn't mind buying it all from one place," Sydra said following the man into the lumbermill. Rounding the corner Sydra was impressed by a large amount of wood and other materials. It seemed that the man had been hoping to make a place using Bonewhite logs, with Firescale stones, and light blue glass as the windows.

"Impressive, how much is it?" Sydra asked hoping to take all the stuff right away.

"It comes out to be around eight thousand four hundred and fifty gold, but you can pay in segments if you need to." the man said pulling out a runic contract for Sydra to sign.

"No need, I'll pay it all right here," Sydra said, pulling out his money pouch and retrieving the gold from it. "Here you go, the full amount right off the bat," he said as he handed over the money to the shocked man.

"Where would you like us to bring the items?" The man asked after a few seconds of staring at the large amount of gold in his hands. What really surprised him was how calm Sydra had been when pulled out the gold.

'Is he some rich noble in disguise, I mean his clothes don't really scream out "I'm Rich!" you know' the man thought quietly, as he surveyed Sydra.

"Don't worry about it," Sydra said as he walked up to all the items and touched them one by one before they disappeared into his inter-spatial storage. "Thanks, have a good day," he said as he left the baffled man behind.

'He definitely has to be a rich noble.' the man thought, as he looked at the wide-open space where all the items had been. A few minutes later, someone else who worked at the lumbermill walked in and stopped next to the tall man.

"Boss, what happened to all the materials for the mansion. The man came back and said he had changed his mind." The young worker said, before glancing at his boss holding a large sum of gold.

"Go tell that man he will have to wait a while, someone else bought all the materials just now." the tall man responded, still staring blankly at the spot.

...

Walking around, Sydra looked for a good spot he could meditate. He didn't just want to plop down on the ground and have someone believe he was homeless, and he couldn't return to the Inn or he would die. As he strolled down the street he noticed someone carrying a stack of books towards a building that resembled a library. It was a long, brick building with multiple windows that allowed light to flow in. Looking inside one of the windows, Sydra saw multiple bookshelves with beautiful books lined neatly on them.

'If I hadn't awoken the memories, this is the first place I would have gone to figure stuff out.' Sydra thought as he pushed open the door and entered. Glancing around, Sydra decided to head towards the section that had to do with architecture so he could gain some insight on how to properly build his palace.

"Excuse me, where are the books about architecture?" Sydra asked a librarian that was shelving books in the fantasy section.

"Oh, it's right over there between the horror and mystery section." The librarian said, pointing with a book with the title of evolution on it.

'Bet there isn't even that much evolution in it.' Sydra thought as he walked to the section on architecture. Picking out a book that said 'Architecture for Dummies' Sydra sat down and began to read. The book went over things as planning, foundation, walls, and other such things. This helped Sydra understand what direction he should go in to build the palace without it falling over later due to instability. Finished with the book, Sydra entered his Arbor Sanctum and looked at the pile of materials. There was a lot to work with, but this would only be the beginning of his palace.

'Hmm, where should I build this.' Sydra thought as he looked out across the large island. The entire island was thirteen miles in diameter, so he had plenty of room to work with. Deciding to build the palace on the north side of the tree, he walked up to the tree and placed his hand on it. Not only he control the tree, but he could also control the island.

This is what he was doing right now, as he lifted up the ground on the north side to create a small mountain. The mountain was three miles in diameter and two miles tall, and after it was lifted Sydra flattened out two and a half miles of the mountain to place his mansion on. He did this halfway up the mountain to create a small alcove in it so that the palace would be covered by the top of the mountain.

Once that was done, Sydra willed the tree to begin moving the supplies to the area and begin building the palace. Soon, a white palace could be seen sitting in the alcove, with white walls and light blue windows. To top it all off, Sydra had changed the color of the Firescale stones to gold and used these to make a walking path up to the palace. Although the palace was a long way from complete, the outside had been completed for now.

"All it needs is a waterfall," Sydra said aloud as he directed some of the roots to redirect water they received from clouds to the top of the mountain. As the water trickled down the mountain, it started to fall off the top of the alcove and created a curtain of water in front of the palace. Raising some of the Golden Firescales, Sydra made it seem like a golden doorway was parting the waterfall to lead to the palace of a king.
