It had just been a normal day. Everything was going to be perfect. Everything had been okay… until now. Never once had he imagined that this was how everything would go down. Of course, they had not been told much but as things stood now, he wished he had never stopped to look. He wished he had paid more attention to his surroundings.
All he could do was wish and condemn his pathetic self. At the moment, both his sister and him were running for their lives. They had been given little bags that did not weigh much and were ordered to leave. At first, anyone would say no but as things now stood, he had no choice. If they had stayed, they would not have lasted a second longer.
Their mother had only managed to teleport them a short distance away from their home. It's not like she did not have much power than that, but she had to focus on supporting her husband and guiding her children. Even for a hybrid, that was a little too much to ask. His only regret was that he was the one who let him in.
And for that, he was going to regret it for the rest of his life. Their speed was unmatched because even their own parents could not catch up to them at full speed. They had to bear it. The uncertainty and the pain. It had attacked from nowhere… and what's more, it had made them see a part of their parents they never knew existed. Fear.
His father's eyes, his mother's smile and their final words to them. This tore him apart, little by little. He did not know what was going to happen next. And his mind could only draw negative conclusions in his mind for him to see. His vision was blurry from the tears he desperately fought to fight back. Most of them fell anyway.
Behind him, he could feel his sister's breathing quickening. He knew how much pain she was in. And no one could understand better because, he too was in the same spot. Something slimy dried on their hands making it itchy but they had no time to think about that. What had been planted in their minds was… getting away.
Running at super speed had its perks and once or twice, someone was bound to trip. He made the mistake of looking back, and that's when it happened. He dived head first into a tree and left his print there.
The poor tree could not take the pressure and fell over. Falling on his butt her held his head to suppress the pain but that did not work. He could hear someone calling out to him but the voice was so far away.
He opened his eyes only to see red. Someone was wiping this red stuff off his face and they seemed desperate. His world twisted and turned making him dizzy. He was not one who bundled such roundabouts very well so his dinner was ousted from his belly. This was not how he wanted his way to go.
' The day…' he thought. 'How I wish…'
His world became pitch black.
It was Halloween, the midnight blue sky stood proud. The moon, halfway through, limited the light that shone making it worthwhile. The stars decided it was time for a vacation as they did not show up in the sky while the clouds decided to have a parade. One thing was clear, this was a Halloween night darker than any experienced before.
The streets were busier than any day but one could not shake this eerie feeling. Like something dark and mysterious was going on before their eyes but they could not see it. However, instead of being bumped out, everyone was excited and thrilled as it fitted the theme of the holiday, Halloween. Kids all the way to adults moved in groups.
Monster and fairies, ghouls and angels, cavemen and robots walked hand in hand, trick or treating from door to door. Some costumes looked too real as they moved on their own but people either ignored or did not notice.
Some thought the characters had been going all out for Halloween. A pair passed by. They did not seem to have any interest in the festivities going on as they did not trick or treat. They had no sack or place to place the sweets either.
The two teenagers, fully dressed simply walked occasionally talking to each other. Their conversation could not be made out as their language was one that hadn't been heard before. And considering it a foreign language was a little too far fetched. Most people avoided them while a few seemed to understand what they were talking about.
Moreover, those that understood them did not seem to like it so they glared at them while they passed. It was as though they were trying to deliberately send them a signal that could not be seen. Whether it was a language not to be shared or one that had a hidden meaning was unclear. Apart from their language, everything else was sport on. Their costumes were so captivating, they left everyone gawking.
Fluffy black dog ears sat on top of the head of the young man. They matched perfectly with his hair color, white. His eyes had a purple light glow that reminded one of space when looking into them.
A long fluffy black tail hid under his outfit but it would occasionally sway as they talked. His outfit was a regular one, tight black jeans with a chain on the side and a white shirt. This outfit was accompanied by a coat, yet, it also brought out the muscles underneath.
Dark sharp horns sat on top of the young lady's head. Unlike her brother's, hers were a huge contrast to her fiery red hair. Her eyes had a faint sapphire glow. Looking at them many of the coldest day during winter.
As she passed, many people shivered or rubbed their hands together. She had not tail but two strong winds accompanied her. They would occasionally move as if they ached to be spread and used. Those that understood them saw shadows being sucked into them. Her attire too was a simple blue dress.
Both of them had caramel skin that made many reconsider having a taste of it. Many could be seen swallowing saliva a they watched them walk by. The scene was bewitching but, the duo did not seem bothered and walked on. But, one thing was clear, the two, despite being so close, were so different. If anyone asked why they thought so, none could come up with an adequate answer.
They were in a daze for a while. Just looking.
Soon, everyone came to a conclusion, these two nailed it in costumes. Many wanted to talk to them but stopped when they gave thought to how to start a conversation. What if they did not understand English? All they could do was watch them walk down the street. The girl never once smiled even when the brother told a joke, the brother was so talkative that his voice echoed all over. After they had vanished out of sight, everything went back to normal.
As these two walked on, the young man accidentally bumped into someone. He immediately apologized and looked to see if the person had dropped anything. His voice wasn't deep but, it felt just right. He backed away and looked into the figure he had bumped into. Whoever it was, was dressed in a dark black cloth from head to toe. Neither his face nor his feet could be seen. They held a scythe in their hand and its size was a little too big for them. Where his face was supposed to be, stood two giant red orbs that stared right into them.
It gave them goosebumps just being around the person. Their bodies screamed for them to run but they looked rather pleased and thrilled to be standing next to such great power from the dark sides. They began praising the costume. Well, most words were said by the young man, all the lady did was say one word.
"Cool costume."
Her voice sounded like a strong wind accompanying a blizzard passing. It was compelling to all who had it and for a minute or two, they were stuck in a daze. It had not been her intent but it had already happened. However, the man or woman did not respond. What was heard was only a low hum accompanied by a harsh wind. The ground shook. The others who had a realistic costume fled the scene. Yet, the two did not notice.
The figure tilted its head and tried figuring what these two were. He had just called to them, which meant that he could take them back to wherever they came from but this spell did not work on these two. He only had one option left, to kill them. They were abnormal. And that itself was a grave mistake. It lifted its scythe.
In that moment, the two sensed killing intent. They had never sensed something this wicked and they acted just in time to dodge the scythe. Not knowing what this thing was, one thing became clear. That was no costume. That thing was a real life whatever it was. Which also meant that it was not something from this world. Just like them.
And if it was acting this way, they had to defend or flee. The young man's eyes glowed fiercely and he got ready to attack. His looked at his sister and they both lunged forward. They did not know what happened next. All they knew was that the moment their attacks made contact, they both almost immediately felt pain like no other.
They retreated to a distance but the pain was to much for his sister to handle so she plopped to the ground. She wasn't unconscious but her brother could tell that her power had been affected as well. The thing that attacked them lifted its scythe once more. He was convinced that it was too strong for them to take head on.
That was when it hit him that no one had come to assist them. Many of his kind had been around earlier but now none stood in their perimeter. Not even humans were around. He had not noticed this and now, was a little too late. Before it attacked, he dived for his sister and took off. The attack took out half off the road and everything that was near it, houses included.
He hated this feeling but there was not much he could do. He made it home safe but not sound. The wound on him was not healing. His sister too was facing the same predicament though it seemed to have taken more out of her than expected. That was unusual. Their parents came running to their aid in and instant. They asked for details and when they were told, their faces went pale.
"You have to leave." Was all their mother said.
They were in their hybrid form but the attack had made their children shift back into their human form. Their father had white and black dog ears on his head too. He hair was also the same color, just a little different, it was black with a white tip to his left. His hands had claws and his fangs showed. The tail wagged swiftly from left to right as the light made the fur shine magnificently.
Their mother also had fangs for teeth but hers seemed different from the fathers. Her nails were long and looked nothing like claws. She had no tail but like her daughter, she had wings. However, they looked more like skin than the feathered wings her daughter had. She had no horns nor fur on her skin. One look at her and one could say she was a demon vampire. Yet, her skin wasn't pale either.
They looked at each other and their father left. Their mother healed their wounds as much as she could and went off somewhere. When they came back, their father put on something around his neck and their mother gave something to his sister, which her husband had passed to her. They were each handed a bag and before their minds could register what was happening, they were fed a location by their father's ability.
"Remember, your names are Vatracco and Immaculata Dragonar."
Their home shook and something crashed. Their mother mentioned something about something being there and she teleported them out. And with that, their father telepathically ordered them to run! Vatracco held his sister's hand and made a run for it. He wanted to look back but his instincts told him otherwise. And so, they ran…
