Chapter 8 - Torture

"Mnn..."

Gin slowly opened his eyes. He felt his body was heavy and numb.

"Where am I?"

He looked around and found that he was in a closed room. He was sitting on a chair with his limbs bound by thick and heavy chains.

The door opened and two men wearing light armor. Their attire was like the guard of this village that he saw before. Then, a person who looked sharp wearing heavy silver armor walked behind the two. He was the chief guard of this village.

"Sir, this is the suspicious person that we found." One of the two said to the last man politely.

"I can clearly see it." The chief guard said in a deep tone. He observed Gin from top to bottom. His weird outfit was eye-catching so it's natural that they will find this man suspicious.

"Sir, Is there a chance that he is a spy from our enemy?" One of the two asked politely.

"Yeah, there's a high chance but this person is too weak. He didn't even reach warrior level." The chief guard said.

Their country was currently in a war against three neighboring countries. Even though this village was just in the rural part they still need to be wary about outsiders. There were rumors about a spy selling their information to their enemies.

Also, they didn't find any identification card in his pocket. He wasn't an adventurer or a merchant nor a citizen of this country. It was too suspicious.

"Interrogate him." He said before turned around and left.

"Yes, sir!" The two saluted at the chief guard. Once the chief guard left the room, they closed the door and went in front of Gin.

Naturally, Gin couldn't understand what they were talking about. Also, he realized the graveness of his situation.

'This is bad... What should I do?'

He was racking his brain trying to figure out how could he escape this place. He couldn't communicate with them so he could only escape.

"Brat. Tell us where are you from?" One of the guards asked Gin. When they saw Gin didn't reply, the other one delivered a blow on his stomach.

Bang!

"Argh!" Gin groaned in pain as he felt his bones being crushed. All the guards in this city were warrior level and he who didn't reach that realm couldn't possibly endure a punch from a guard.

He felt a metallic taste formed in his mouth. He spat and found that simple punch injured him.

"I don't know what you're saying but I could only say that I'm innocent."

He said coarsely as he looked at the guards with a serious expression. He wanted them to know that he didn't know anything. He was new to this world.

He was a simple kid that didn't know anything in this world and he wasn't a threat to them. He was just a level 0 human.

"Hey, he's saying something..." The other guards said as he turned his head to looked at his friend.

"Yeah, do you have an idea what's this language?"

"No, I don't think it's the native language of beastman or elf."

"What should we do?"

"Let's continue... This is a rare opportunity. Also, maybe he's just faking us. After all, we just punch him and no spy would reveal their information that easily."

"Yeah, you are right."

"Let's beat this guy before we asked him again."

"Damn! This is making my blood boil!"

Gin looked at the two guards with a pale expression. He couldn't understand their words but he could somehow realize that they would torture him.

"No!! I didn't do anything wrong!!"

The two guards looked at him with a big smile on their faces. This smile was like a smile of a devil for Gin. He wouldn't be able to forget this smile in his life.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

After five hours, Gin was ruined. He had a blank looked on his face as blood was dripping out of his mouth. He had bruises all over his body and he didn't have the strength to move. He couldn't even move his finger.

This was the first time in his life he got tortured. He got beaten nonstop for the past five hours. It doesn't matter if he shouted or not, the two guards simply rained down heavy punches at his body.

"He fainted... How could we ask him if he's unconscious?"

"He is on death's door."

"This is your fault, you forgot that he's not even at warrior level."

"We should report this to the chief."

"Okay, let's call the chief."

The two guards talked to each other when they saw that Gin fainted. After a few moments, one of them left the room to call the chief. They needed to report this to higher-ups.

Five minutes later...

The chief guard entered the room. He quickly observed Gin's condition.

"Heavy wounds, internal injuries, and fractured bones... It would take him more than a year before he recovered with his power level. There's a chance that he would become a cripple. Well, it doesn't matter to me."

The chief guard walked in front of Gin and grabbed his hair. He lowered his body and looked at Gin's complexion.

"This will do."

He took out a bottle filled with red liquid. After removing the cap, he poured the red liquid inside Gin's mouth.

"He will be able to talk with this."

The chief guard stood up and turned to his subordinates. He ordered them to bring a bucket of water and wake Gin.

...

"Argh!"

Gin slowly opened his eyes as he felt intense pain around his body. The pain was assaulting him every second.

He looked in front of him and saw the two guards with the man from before. This man was the superior of the two. He could easily guess it judging from how these two acted around that man.

"Who are you? And where the hell did you come from?" The chief guard asked Gin in a deep tone. The atmosphere turned cold and the two guards silently watched this scene.

Gin gasped as he felt pressure just by sitting in front of this man. He felt this pressure before. It was the same as the level 2 monster that chased after him in the forest.

"I... I'm just an ordinary person... I didn't do anything..."

"Hmm...?" The chief guard squinted his eyes when he heard a different language came out of the kid's mouth.

'You still have the guts to lie to me. It's impossible for you to not know the most common language.' He thought and said, "They will continue to torture you until you tell us who are you and what country are you affiliated."

The most common language was a language used by people of this world when interacting with people from another country with a different language. This country has its own language so if they want to negotiate with another country with a different language they would have to use the most common language so that they could understand each other. Another example was that when humans would talk to beastmen or elves they would use the most common language. So almost all the people in this world know how to speak this language

The two guards once again tortured him and it was much more extreme than before.

This was how it went when he met the humans in this world for the first time. It was clearly different from his imagination or what he read in novels.

His impression of this world went down.
