Chapter 2 - Awakening

Sitting in front of Gin was a man with short black hair. He had a huge physique and his eyes were sharply looking at him. He had a fierce aura around him.

This man was his father, Yagami Yotaka. One of the top 10 wealthy people in Japan.

"You're going to awaken today, right?" Yagami, his father, asked in a deep tone.

"Yes, father." Gin replied in a polite tone as he slightly bowed his head. He then glanced at the man beside his father.

This man was from the Hunter's Association. He was the one who will record his ability.

The Hunter's Association will record every people's ability once they awaken. A person would be treated as a criminal if they didn't give the details of their ability to the association. It was a weird rule but it was important to maintain the balance of this world.

Yagami looked at the man from Hunter's Association and nodded. He then threw a small bottle with blueish liquid inside it.

Gin caught the bottle and looked at it. The liquid inside the bottle was emitting blue dim light. He knew that this was condensed mana. It was a medicine to increase the mana capacity of inside a person's body.

The people called this mana enhancing potion.

This bottle was worth one hundred thousand USD.

In fact, this bottle wasn't that effective. He drunk dozens of mana enhancing potions in the past but he still hasn't reached 10 mana capacity. If he was to guess it, he would say that ten bottles of this potion would only increase his mana capacity by 1.

Also, the higher the mana capacity a person has the less effective this potion.

"Drink it." Yagami said in a serious tone.

Gulp!

Gin gulped before he opened the bottle and drunk the liquid inside it. He was entirely sure that he was going to awaken once he drunk this potion. His mana capacity was already 9 last year.

Last month, he felt that he reached the limit of his body. Just a single push and he was going to mutate and awaken his ability. It was a weird sensation that all people felt when they were going to mutate. He was going to use this potion as a catalyst to breakthrough his mana limit.

The blue liquid went down to his throat and a warm energy spread inside his body. He slowly closed his eyes and guided the energy in his body. He guided it in his veins.

Ohm!

Yagami squinted his eyes as he saw Gin emitted a bright dark light.

"Don't worry, he's undergoing a mutation. If he didn't complete it then his mana pool would be injured and that's it for his life as a mutant as we currently don't have a way to fix a person's mana pool." The man from the association explained to Yagami. He then said, "You experience it too, right? You're a middle-tier level 1 mutant."

"Yeah, but I'm not aware of my surrounding at that time." Yagami said and he rested his chin on his palm.

"Well, the transformation to become a level 1 mutant isn't eye-catching. The level 2 and above are problematic." The man said as he focused his eyes on Gin. He wondered what kind of ability this person would awaken.

"I just hope that this child of mine will not become a hunter." Yagami sighed as he closed his eyes.

The man glanced at him and smiled, "I will take care of him if he becomes a hunter."

"Then, what about my business? He will not take it if he becomes a hunter." Yagami said with a hopeless expression.

"Haha, that's not my problem. I only need to take care of him. Whether he decided to take your business or not is his decision." The man laughed lightly. "There's also a chance that he will become a great hunter and created his own guild. This way, he will be able to obtain wealth that could rival your own."

"But this work is safer than that... I could understand his reason but it's risky." Yagami sighed. He then saw the light around Gin disappeared.

"It's finished. Let's wait for him to familiarize himself in his body." The man said while looking at Gin who slowly opened his eyes.

Gin looked at his arms and felt overwhelming power inside his body. He could clearly felt the mana inside him unlike before when he still hasn't mutated to a level 1 mutant.

"So this is the feeling of a level 1 mutant..." He muttered in an amazed tone. He then heard a voice in front of him.

"Congratulations young master for becoming a level 1 mutant!"

He looked up and saw that it was the man from the association. He was looking at him with a friendly smile.

"Have you adjusted to your body?" The man asked.

Gin closed his eyes and opening it after a while. He nodded at the man while saying, "Yes, it feels great."

"Good. Then, we'll evaluate your strength." The man said as he stepped forward. He raised his palm and said, "Punch me with everything you've got."

"Punch you? Are you sure?" Gin looked at the unsurely. The man looked like a frail old man.

"Don't worry about me, young master. Even if I looked like this, I'm still an upper-tier level 2 mutant." The man said with a faint smile.

"Okay." Gin smiled and he pulled back his fist. He then threw it towards the man.

Bang!

The man simply blocked his punch without effort. He lowered Gin's fist and shook his head.

"The strength of your punch is weaker than average level 1 mutant. If I've got to say it, your strength is three times stronger before you mutate. Normally, people would gain a strength five times stronger before they mutate. But yours is below average." The man explained to him. He had Gin's record of strength before he mutates.

"What?!" Gin was shocked when he heard the man's explanation.

"Next, we'll check your ability that you've awakened." The man said as he threw a piece of crystal plate at Gin.

Gin caught it and stared at the crystal plate in his hand. He was feeling anxious when he heard that his strength was below average. If he didn't have a great ability then his life as a hunter would become harder.

He could feel it. He had an ability that could work on people but he didn't know its exact details. It wasn't that great as he could feel that it wouldn't work on the person in front of him. It must be a trash ability.

If he had fire ability then he would be able to conjure it with just a thought but nothing happens when he tried to do it.

His anxiousness was growing stronger every second.

"Pour your mana in that plate and you will be able to see your ability." The man from the association said.

The crystal plate that he gave to Gin was called Appraisal Plate. This plate could be found inside the dungeons. The people could see the details of their ability on this plate once they poured their mana in it.
