Chereads / Asd: A Werelion's Journey To Arcane Supremacy / Chapter 18 - Earth The Eternal

Chapter 18 - Earth The Eternal

With each of his base elements being mutations, Asd had to study spells that worked close or in tandem with those mutations. His Fire element had a solar mutation and that alone had endless battle applications, with the time he has to himself he had thought it wise to instead understand his elements and their mutations before thinking about the next step to take. There were practically no defensive capabilities of his solar fire/star fire element, he was able to come to an understanding that as far it was concerned; he was still going to be burning a lot of people, a whole lot of them.

However, he could still learn common fire spells, though it is the learning of those spells that spells doom for anyone that think he would just be a simple fire mage. Asd was able to understand that all fire element spells were still available to him, but his mutation would affect and change it fundamentally. Which brought him to his next problem; his element of earth. This was his first and probably the element he had the most connection to, with perhaps the inclusion of wind. But he was in a bit of a dilemma in choosing a spell and how to move forwards with it because the mutation for his earth element is Summoning.

And summoning as a whole was a damn class all to itself. To see an element with such a mutation was not just rare…. In the entire history of the western Albion empire this has only happened seventeen times. To have an element that's catered and wholly exclusive to the abilities of a particular class, it was really rare but probably not in a good way as it doesn't always turn out well. Mutations can give the seven elements different effects, but summoning was a class, a school of magic all on its own and it meant already established earth spells won't work well for Asd and would be just a waste. he would have to summon earth spirits for every level to utilize the full scope and power of his Earth element summoning mutation.

'

So if that was the case and he would not be able to use things like earth wall and earth lance, or high level earth element spells like tectonic shift or gravity fall, so be it. Though that knowledge is a bit painful there was absolutely nothing he could do about it. He decided to play to his strengths and not spread himself too thin, besides he'd rather have three powerful elements than seven mildly powerful elements, he wanted to at least have a say in the way his life would go.

He was sitting down cross-legged when he opened a tome on 0 circle summoning. He had taken his time in trying to understand the earth element and its mutations so as to get a better grasp of what he was going into. And unfortunately he discovered that there was no 0 circle summon for the earth element, heck there wasn't any such summon for any of the element. What he could actually do however was to summon a wisp, and that was as good enough as a base summon, the only problem is it would take a slot but not one belonging to any attribute.

Which was why wisps were known to be practically useless. They were just globs of highly condensed mana, attribute less and powerless. Good for nothing other than being a floating lamplight. Better people than him have walked down that path and tried to modify the spell to actually try and summon a wisp with an attribute, but they had all failed so Asd wasn't hoping for much, he would just summon the wisp with some little modifications of his own, and then study another earth element spell so that when his seven phase meditation technique takes form, it remembers to absorb the ambient earth element in the air.

Every summoning needed materials, draconic runes and a summoning circle. Which is a type of rune circle or formation, only it was catered to bringing something into this world. A lot of people have tried different methods to summoning a wisp with an elemental attribute. They've used the blood of high and low level earth elements monsters, earth element treasures and weapons of all sorts and even natural earth elements biomes. But so far they have all failed, Asd had drawn his summoning circle, and he was just about finished.

He shook his head in deep thought as he raised his index finger to his mouth again and let his sharper than normal incisors pierce into it, bringing forth another spring of blood to complete the intricate 3 meters in diameter summoning circle. It was intricate display of squares overlapping each other like a pentagram. Each of the elements had a geometric shape to denote their importance. Asd wasn't really good with mathematics, especially when it came to magic, but he understood art and the importance of symbolism. Which more often than not is what magic is all about.

He had drawn the entire thing with his blood, and by this point he was more than just a little pale, he was about to pass out. But the final runes were in place, and his three hours of studying, disseminating and applying what he had been studying has been completed. He had integrated an earth spell into the summoning circle, and it is something that has been done before, even the usage of his blood; though it was a staple to use a bit of your blood in the summoning circle so as to bind the summon to yourself, it was beyond crazy that a person would use their blood for the entire thing. Perhaps only vampires and Freed Weres had the ability to do so due to their extreme healing factor.

The final step was to feed mana to the summoning circle and carry on with the summoning. But there was one final step he had to take. The method his father had taught him for calming down his Werelion during previous full moons when he couldn't transform had proven to be incredibly invaluable when it comes to magic. For some reason it seemed to boost his control and connection and brought his mutation to the forefront like it did when he got the spark spell, he was going to do it again, this time with his summoning.

Asd poured mana into the summoning circle and immediately the circle lit up in a bright flash of sanguine red. A rendition of it appeared in his mind, deep in that space where his Werelion slept and where his spells are given form. He retreated into his mind, breathing evenly as he took in the lessons of his father. The Werelion stared and raised his juvenile head up to look at the summoning circle for a moment, in an almost human like manner he raised an eyebrow and then turned to look at Asd, before shaking his head with what seemed to be an amused look and then turning around to go back to sleep.

Asd ignored him, his attention fully drawn to the summoning circle as it seemed to flicker, its sanguine glow began to change as a deep rich color of brown with golden highlights began to bleed from every line, circle and rune. The smell of wet earth after the rain assailed his senses as a patch of green grass and colorful flowers began to grown from underneath his feet. A massive tree seemed to sprout behind him as in the distance a black mountain with snowcapped peaks stood unmovable and eternal.

Besides it Asd could see a river of lava that flowed deep in a chasm of eternal blackness that drew one in, it was a force so magnetic that it seemed to pull even at your soul. And that was when he noticed them, some were just tiny creatures with deep brown shells, there were gnomes in sight with comical yellow, green and brown hats. A meter-tall golem clumsily following behind one that was 4 meters tall, a draig with sharp yellow spines and serpentine tongue stalking what seems to be a bunny with a deep earthen brown coat and ears a sharp metallic grey. A wyrm burrowed out of the ground its hundreds of meters long body blotting out the sky as a titan light slapped it on the head in annoyance and a dragon's massive form flew over the head of the Titan, his mirthful and ancient chuckle reverberating across the land like an earthquake.

Asd fell back against the massive and ancient tree behind him in shock, and as he did so their eyes all turned to him. For a moment his heart stopped, suffused so deeply in fear and horror that he could not even move a limb. With fire he was shown the all-encompassing force behind the heat and life of the universe. The stars, the suns, they had no equal in how hot they burned. But now with earth, he saw life immeasurable, the life that had chosen to embody the element. He saw just how much power they held, he saw so much more and deeper than his feeble mortal mind could ever comprehend, and it shook him.

Because he wasn't just looking at the creatures that he could summon, heck it was more as if they could summon him. He was looking at eternity, the force to remain solid, unmovable and brutish. The ability to weather a million years of change and then slowly adapt in the most optimal way possible. Earth…. the eternal. And then it was all gone, everything disappeared and Asd found himself laying on the floor of the hole he was thrown into, breathing deeply as his body shook and a bright yellow glow was cast over his body, then he raised his head up to come face to face with what looked like a flicker of a yellow/brown flame.

"Hi!" the voice was a little high-pitched and filled with too much enthusiasm. But be that as it may Asd knew he had succeeded as darkness claimed him, as the knowledge of the summoning ritual he just performed was wiped out of his memory without trace, form, or rhyme. All he could remember, all his body and mind could understand and say was.

"EARTH THE ETERNAL!"
