The incident which the flame empress spoke was just a couple blocks away so there wasn't a need to take a cab or anything.
Thomas walked all the way towards the location, it was easy to the the about three police officers around the perimeter, blocking off the civilians. Giving a closer look, they didn't seem to be his mother's coworkers, maybe from a different precinct.
As Thomas wasn't dressed in his battle suit, one of the officers was about to stand on his way when the former revealed his Adept ID. "hey, you. Stop right there... Ah, you are the Adept they told me about? Sorry, I didn't think there could be adepts this young, about my daughter's age. Thomas, right? Do you even have age to drink?"
Thomas grew a bit embarrassed and scratched the back of his head. "Ah I made sixteen a couple months ago, there is only me and two other Adepts with the same age here in the city so it makes sense if you find it weird. Now, where is the victim Lieutenant... Scott."
It's fortunate that all police uniforms still have their names on it otherwise he would have embarrassed himself.
Following officer Scott into the four-story building. Taking one step thought the doors, Thomas was shaken by the view in front of him. A strong scent of blood invaded his nose, his senses immediately caught the over twelve scents of blood spread across the first three floors.
"Our men already investigated the scene, It all happened during last night. This building used to be a research facility for a small company, they seemed to be researching about other uses for the bones and flesh of dimensional creatures such as demons, Lycans and other monstrosities. We have found a total of twelve bodies belonging to the facility employees, none of them were adepts so even ordinary people if given guns could probably pull this off."
The Lieutenant reported everything the police have found about the incident. Thomas also nodded, the body parts of any creature goes for a good amount of money in the black market. Being a small company they dared do research with expensive material and didn't even paid a few adepts to provide security.
Some people would most certainly enjoy the opportunity and take it for them. But Thomas couldn't accept it was all that easy. If he was informed of it then there must be something that connects this crime to an adept.
Having reached that conclusion, Thomas gave a closer look at some of the bodies. There wasn't any marks of bullets neither in their bodies or walls, there also a lack of fighting signs, only deep cuts and burn marks that could be left by, anima energy from either an adept or some special weapons.
"Lieutenant, you must have seen it too right? The scene is too clean, the guys who did this must be pretty strong. The killer didn't take hostages and just finished them all without giving it much thought. For the weapon used... its either an Adept's anima energy or an Anima Pulse Gun."
Seeing the Lieutenant didn't show any surprise, it showed he must already guessed until this point. I see, he must be testing me them. Taking a deep breath he continued. "No matter which possibility, the services of an adept or an Anima Pulse gun, both are worth much more than some skulls and bones left by some monsters. Did they take anything else from the lab?"
"Not that I know. We contacted a few employees that weren't here last night and they gave us a list of everything they had in the lab."
Thomas gave the a look at the list. As he was told they didn't take anything else than the bones and flesh of an Lycanthrope, low-rank demon eyes and a couple other things. None of them were valuable enough to explain why the use of an adept or Pulse Gun.
"This is getting stranger by the second... Lieutenant Scott, can I go to the lab? There is something I want to try."
Scott didn't know why an adept would ask for this, yet he was told by the higher ups to cooperate with the sent Adept with all the help he could give so... "Alright. I will tell my men about you. The lab is in the third and fourth floors. If you excuse me, I must go visit the family of the victims."
"Understood." Thomas parted ways from Lieutenant and walked up the stairs towards the lab. The police officers didn't trouble him and he easily got inside the lab.
Seeing it up close, it is really not that big of a lab. Other than some equipement here and there, there was nothing that could give a clue about the killers.
"Not it is time to try that." Closing his eyes, Thomas put all his focus on his demonic sense together with some sunlight demonic energy.
With the police officers all being non-Adepts, he won't be afraid of showing his powers to some extent.
'Ha!'
When his eyes opened, everything seemed to change. The way he saw the world changed, it was like countless colors popped up in front of him. Numerous particles could be seen everything.
A dozen tiny particles stood out to him, they didn't have much color and were very faint, but he could recognize it as residue some sort of energy. Those particles were stuck in the bodies of the dozen victims and it was too weak for the energy sensor skill to notice, yet its traces were almost identical to Anima Energy.
'Good, I don't know the reason for the attract, but I am now sure of Adept involvement. I should report back to the others and wait.'
