On the way to the cake shop, Thomas instantly felt a shiver down his spine as the sky shone in a reddish glow. A ominous atmosphere was felt at that moment
"Dimensional Rift!" Thomas exclaimed in his mind. There was not even a need to think. His eyes then fell on the brand-new wrist computes, like he did expected it showed a notification that a dimensional rift has opened 500m away.
He immediately rushed towards the location of the rift, luckily the locate where the spatial rift, it was just a few blocks away from the cake shop where Clarisse works.
Far away, sounds of fighting could be heard, surely other adepts must already be there.
"Uh? This feels a little different from the other time…." Thomas murmured some words and looked behind him. What he could see the entire area with the spatial rift as its center was covered in fog.
This fog was thick, and no sunlight could penetrate it. Hell, he even heard the cries of what sounded like wild beasts and bloody screams from its victims were heard from afar every now and then, too.
Thomas didn't know what was that fog, the only thing he knew was that it possessed strange properties. After trying to contact katherine, Thomas realized both internet and communication weren't working and when he tried to leave he felt like a invisible way was blocking his way.
"…." Everything seemed so quiet and still, but he did sense a gaze of something.
And then, there was the smell of blood getting stronger, too.
A seriously strong feeling took over him. For Thomas, who had the the senses of a demon, this was a rather familiar smell.
"I can feel it, the killing intent."
However, he still couldn't find its source within that fog, but he could sense it was following him just like how a predator would stalk its a prey.
"Oh, so it wants to remain hidden and attack when it sees an opportunity, is that it? In that case, I will let it see who is the prey and who is the hunter." Thomas turned around and retread the path he had taken until now. He waited to see if this thing would pounce on him once it sees an opening.
And so, it happened exactly like he expected right after the tenth step.
Smash!!
Sounds of shattered glass echoed, as something jumped out of a bank's window. And this something, as soon as it landed on the ground, leapt towards Thomas, preparing to catch its prey in one move.
"Roar!"
"There is you!" Turning around a huge ghostly hand appeared out of nowhere and grabbed the creature in mid-air, stopping its movements right before stabbing it at the head with his blade.
Puu!
The monster spat out a pained cry it dropped down on the ground.
With the monster dead, Thomas finally had the time to see what kind of creature it was and the truth left him stunned.
The tall body figure, bloody fangs and claws, black fur while still maintaining a somewhat humanoid shape made it clear to Thomas what it was.
"Lycanthrope?! It can't be, hasn't the last one sighted twenty-five years ago?" Thomas knew very well since it was something he learned just last year in class. Just like the demons first invaded earth through London, another type of monster that shared features of both humans and wolves had appeared in the streets of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
Due to the similarity to the werewolves, they were giving the name of Lycanthrope. Unlike demons, Lycans were mostly all on similar levels without much disparity of strength between them other than the pack's leader.
But their biggest advantage was that they could turn the human they have bitten into minions, wolfish monsters that would follow their orders.
Adeps were immune to the mutation other that having some small fever, but suddenly facing hundreds of civilians turned into minions was not a good thing.
From what he learned in the classes, to identify a lycan's position in the pact was its eye color. A minion would have blue eyes, a normal lycan would have yellow eyes, and the leader of the pack would have red eyes.
After opening the dead Lycan's eye, he saw it had bright yellow pupils that were devoid of life.
He breathed in relief seeing he didn't kill a innocent civilian that was turned into a monster against its will. But Thomas didn't lowered his guard, the streets around him were too silent and there was not signs of people other than the battle far in the front.
At this point Thomas was still carrying the battle armor Katherine gave him in the box, but then he decided to wear it first before heading further into the fog.

Because there was no presence of the sun, Thomas could feel a slight change in his demonic energy. The previous warmth was replaced by a dark and cold sensation as if his body was immersed in cold ice.
However, Thomas didn't have the time to wonder about these changes.
Two more Lycans jumped out from their hiding place from behind the shop's darkness.
"I knew there were others, Lycanthropes aren't that different from wolves after all." Thomas's eyes narrowed.
They two Lycans bared their big fangs and closed the distance in an instant.
Thomas' then thought of something by fully activating his demonic skill [Partial Demon Transformation].
To his surprise, he noticed that the demonic energy bar was different as well.
[Moonshadow Demonic Energy: 200/200]
Instead of the orange mist, a ominous purple mist surged forth. His eyes turned into pair of vertical pupils shining with a evil glint, demonic purple veins spread throughout his body. His teeth grew sharper like swords, and in a instant he didn't look like a human anymore but a humanoid monster.
"ROAR! Come here if you wish to die!" Thomas roared as loud he could! The demonic aura burst forth, scaring the two lycans into fleeing.
It all happened in a few seconds. When his senses told him there was no more danger did he calm down as he reverted back to his human form.
"I can't stay here any longer. This place is their domain, they might bring reinforcements at anytime." After reaching that conclusion, Thomas swiftly left that street.
...
Out in the city, countless adepts had been notified about what happened and headed towards the location of the dimensional rift, but to their surprise a cloud of fog covered the entire district.
Anyone who tried to enter that area would immediately get repelled. No one knew what has happened, only that no one could go in or out of the fog. The creatures that lurked on that place were unknown as well.
At this moment, Katherine stood right next to the border of the fog. Her face was filled with worry as she talked to herself. "Why did I let him go alone. I didn't think such a strange situation could ever happen. Wait, isn't she near that area, if she's there maybe there is hope after all."
