Chereads / Telefixation (Old) / Chapter 25 - A loss too great.

Chapter 25 - A loss too great.

Game 4, the greatest milestone of my group! I'm who most people would call an over-achiever! All my life, I've done things better than most people think I could! I've excelled in sports, school, and so many other things in life!

However, this whole abducting thing has ruined everything I have built up so far. It was 12 days ago, around that amount of time. I was brought onto this stupid alien ship! Along with around 1199 others! A mass disappearance like this will be sure to rile up Earth, they might never find us, however…

Either way, this game is the first that really tested one's physical prowess! No matter what, I will be able to succeed here! We had to walk a much longer distance to get to the game area. Walking out into the Epicenter, as it was called, I saw 3 other groups. They looked quite sad, full of nobodies! However, they were sure to do well, I could believe that! We could all survive this game!

I am glad I asked for a hint for this game as my prize for game 3, it came in handy! It said this was competitive and required physical prowess! I was sure to do well. I was so sure that I wanted to go first. I walked up to the starting area and took a look at the obstacles ahead. They looked tough, but not impossible, if I can just get through, I am sure the others will get confident as well about their own abilities! First up, a wall with fists coming out of windows, that didn't look too hard, the ground was covered in slime, as well…

I took my time, walking sideways, and keeping my feet placed against the wall, progression was slow, but sure! Suddenly, the entire wall came out.

It crushed my hand, however, it didn't break anything, at least it didn't feel like it, I slid myself back, but I was too overconfident, I got struck in the back by a fist and barely had the time to use the wall as a support. My leg slid off, and the rest of my body wanted to go next. It wasn't looking so good now. Before I could regain my balance, the wall began moving back in form, it dragged my hand along with it, I had to let go or my fingers would get crushed, but if I let go, I would fall off, and the fall didn't look safe at all. I was out of options. I pulled my hands up higher and regained my footing, pulling out my fingers just in time. I had to keep moving.

Then everything went sideways? Why is it…

I looked up, and saw there was another piece of wall that shot out, most likely to get anyone who was foolish enough to keep going fast after the wall, like me.

'Goddamnit' I thought, before I felt a searing pain on the ground that quickly rose up to my head, then to my eye, then suddenly… Nothing.

It was a few hours after game 4 had started. People were in The Hall eating, talking, and waiting. The 10 people sent out were the most athletically capable. It was a shame I couldn't go ahead. It was truly disappointing how I couldn't go. I wanted to have some confidence that my team wouldn't get killed during the game, but hearing Abby talk about it a bit more, I… really couldn't keep that positivity.

At best, maybe 4 or 5 of them could make it, but even that was wishing quite too highly of them all. There was not much to do as I was taken care of by a few members of The Hall. Abby couldn't get anything for me to read, so I couldn't do anything like that with her. Not to mention, she couldn't really move outside of my blind spot, so she wasn't able to give me something to do. I just don't want anyone to die from our side.

Well, I don't want anyone to die in general.

But it was wishful thinking, like I said. According to Abby, the rest of the course wasn't easier than the beginning, it just got harder.

I assume every group of 10 is made up of the most physically capable. However, even if one is more capable than the rest, and gets to the end, it's competitive in the first place. The main goal is to get to the end first, but why is it even made up of 10 people? There has to be a reason. At the very least, the first team to lose everyone is disqualified, but what if no team gets to that point? Is there a limit to how many people can get to the end? Is it something like a tournament, and only a select few can continue? Pondering helps nobody. Dying right now would be much better than waiting for nothing to happen.

Alas, I am confident nobody would want to even touch me, I was their "Savior" after all.

Some guy I am, half-dead on the table of The Hall.

Some people came to uh, talk to me, I can't really talk too easily. Ryker came by, and he had high respect having my team risk it all to win. Not to mention I risked my own life to kill the host. It was a big revolt, the biggest we've had, although it was only within 2 weeks of getting abducted. I could really only get flushed in response to getting such praise. Being the front of the human revolution wasn't exactly part of my plans for the future.

Jonny hung out quite a few times, I got him to read some of the books for me, how awesome of him. He really helped time go by a little bit faster. I could at least move my body now, but it was barely anything. I can now tap out morse code, I guess, if I want to eat anything specific.

It took too long, I had even fallen asleep to take a nap. After another hour, some people came back. It was Nick, Ashley, and Kira. Only 3 people. It was worse than I thought. Losing 7 people, and an unknown amount from the other 300 around the ship, it was too much for such a small game. Well, it should have been small, but it, in fact, was still extremely risky and dangerous.

The three took a while to get back and talk to me, I didn't exactly know why, but when they came back, their clothes were dirty with many different colors. Nick was showing the most emotion, but it was obvious from the other two that something still went wrong, other than the numerous deaths.

"A-alright, uhm." Nick sat down on the bench next to me on the table and rested his elbows on the table. I couldn't get a good look on his face from the angle where I was in, I could still see his worried eyes. "Basically.. The big problem with game 4 isn't… Well, okay, the… The endgame area, the.."

Ashley cut him off "After beating the obstacle course, which is still very hard, you need to go back the other way you came. However, all obstacle courses but one collapse. It's competitive, because of that situation. The other fourths have powerful people, like, surprisingly strong people. We lost a few numbers, but fortunately, we could get back safe. Unlike some of our members."

I could feel the emotions in the room. Whatever happened to be there must have been scary to face… But they have surprisingly strong people? What could they mean by that?
