Chapter 8 - The cloning human subject

With so much joy she jumped down from her bed, quickly grabbed her phone and dialed Margie's number.

"Margie pick up, pickup" she murmured as she placed the phone on her left ear. Suddenly, the phone beeped.

"Hey, you called and waited for me to pick up; sorry, I'm not available please drop a message"

"Margie I called to share the best thing that ever happened to me" she said smiling and moved the phone to her left ear

"don't border to call back, Robin volunteered to be the human subject for my cloning research" she said happily, jumping up slowly at the same time.

"Meet me at Douglas's lab tomorrow morning before work. Please, bye" she added and hung up the call still smiling

"Ah" she sighed in relief and happily as she fell backwardly into her bed

The night seemed longer than normal to Molly. Her propounded joy couldn't let her get some sleep. The mind has a way of ruminating over memories and imaginations. It occupies the body system with unconscious state of thoughts it can also make one exhibit involuntary in accordance to whatever he or she is thinking about.

The mind has the capability of twisting impossible events to be possible. It manipulates the thoughts into imagining things real or unreal. The state of mind changes one's mood to suite itself. The mind can position events from templates of the past, memories or future plans. In time of love it positions pain or passion, in time of plans it portrays the merits and consequent flops, in lost it shows pains, in the time of failure it positions depression or frustration and in the time of achievements it portrays joy and sense of fulfilment.

The latter is Molly's state of mind and mood, she had a whole lot running through her mind: the recognition, her father's name, the joy of final accomplishment, the worth of monetary investment by the government and above all she will be reckoned with something good for once. Nonetheless, she also thought of whom to name the cloning method after.

"Me? No Robin is there" she thought and shook her head sideways in disagreement.

"Dad? What about mom?" she murmured almost silently with no obvious movements on her lips.

"Hmmm" she breathed out heavily" I will decide that after the cloning trial" she concluded smiling.

Then she stretched out her hand to her phone on the table to check the time but was marveled

"1:20 am!" she shouted "Oh God" she said frowning her face

She quickly stood up in annoyance and entered her toilet. After a while she took to ease herself, she came out and grabbed her ever awake cat and stood close to the window. As she pushed the curtain to the left she imagined how happy Douglas will be when she reveals the news to him, then she smiled.

Douglas can be disregarded as the bread winner of the Chopkins. His past relationship with Donald was transferred to his family after Donald's death. People poke-nosed that Douglas and Susan were having an affair due to how close he is with the family. Overtime, he played the role of a father to the Chopkins. While still tender, Molly referred to him as Dad, but Robin changed that in due time. Regardless, she still bestows that respect on him. Individually they will always run to him to lay their complaints and adhere to his advice. Molly never bordered to hunt for job elsewhere other than his Veterinary laboratory because she was sure of his acceptance.

Although, his lab isn't bringing much money into his pocket he is contented with what he has. His integrity and honesty won over Molly's trust over the years. His lonely life is never a challenge to him. One can say he lives like a lay-monk.

His activities encircled in four places: his house, the church, his lab and shopping mall. Hardly will Douglas be seen in any other place asides the above mentioned places. His religious consciousness is so obvious that it can be detected from his behavior, lifestyle and outfit. His religious attachment makes him look unapproachable but fortunately, he is one of Molly's comfort zones. His humility, high sense of humor and ability to give makes people stick around him most often.

"As such smokers are liable to die young, so are drunks liable to have a worthless life" he will always advice Robin

With time he got used to the side comments he gets because of his dressing. Children already name him The Rosary Man because he always carries it carefully wherever he goes. Most of his time is spent in the church, at some point, Molly was prompted to ask.

"What exactly are your prayer intentions in your consecutive church appearances?"

"Well, nothing much" he answered raising his shoulder "Just a well spent life" he said smiling

"Just that? I doubt" Molly replied. She probably said that because she saw nothing enticing enough to be good about his life.

For some minutes, she was lost in thought of the great impacts Douglas has made in her life. Then she turned back to check the time again. It says 1:48 am, she dropped the phone on the table angrily and laid down on her bed.

The night crawled its way into the morning.

"Finally, its morning" she said when she woke up.

She quickly took her bath, dressed up and almost forgot to brush her teeth. She rushed down the stairs, greeted her mom and rushed out immediately. Susan was baffled at the way she dashed out of the house which is unlike her.

"What could be wrong?" she asked herself as she turned to the door when Molly left.

Douglas was already at his lab when Molly got there. She quickly dropped her bag on one of the shelfs and rushed into his office happily.

"Guess what?" she asked as she sat on the client's seat

"I guess that's a good morning" Douglas asked

"Sorry, good morning" she apologized and greeted as Margie also rushed into the office immediately.

"Yeah baby" she shouted as she hugged Molly tightly almost neglecting Douglas's presence "You needed to see my dancing sessions to the good news" she said with so much joy

"I can imagine" Molly replied smiling "Congratulations dear" she said hugging her again

"What's going on here?" Douglas asked curiously almost forgotten

"Oh, my bad, good morning" Margie greeted

"Robin volunteered to be my cloning human subject" Molly told him

"No, Robin can't do that" he replied in doubts as he leaned back on his seat.

"I thought of that too, how is it possible?" Margie asked

"I don't know, I was disturbed at first when he told me about it, but it's for real" she replied with a bold smile

"Interesting" Margie added

"Does Susan know about this?" Douglas asked

"Well, Robin and I decided not to tell her because she won't allow it" she replied

"I see, do tell Robin I would love to see him" Douglas demanded

"You sound so unhappy" Margie quickly asked him

"Yeah, and strange, is anything the matter?" Molly also asked while trying to sit up

"No, I'm cool" he replied managing to smile

"Well, I will be off to work, I'm late already. Do have fun dear, congratulations dear" Margie said while leaving

"Thanks dear" Molly replied

"Am so happy" she said while she turned to Douglas. After some seconds of silence, Douglas spoke up.

"Don't you think its quite abnormal to use your brother as the human subject" He asked raising his eyes to align with hers.

"No" she replied "It's just a trial" she added

"Alright, I will call him right away" he said as he took his phone to call Robin

"I will rush out to get the medical team ready" she said "You know it will be done here right?" she asked as stood up to leave

"Yeah" he affirmed

"Thanks" she said and left.
