Chapter 12 - Molly's hanging breath

Then Molly realized her phone has been ringing for a long time.

"Please let me take this, its Margie" she excused herself

"Sure" Douglas accepted

"Hi" Molly, how are you doing? How is Robin? How is the trial going? Margie asked joyfully. Her multiple questions came almost at the same time leaving Molly stranded of which to answer first. All she could do is spill the unforeseen.

"Robin is dead" Molly said with a shaking voice almost crying

"What?" Margie shouted as she jumped up from the bed she laid on. "How?" she added as she rushed to her wardrobe to change, holding her phone firmly with her left shoulder

"What's wrong?" Charles, Margie's husband asked

"Robin is dead" she replied in a low tune as she pulled up her jean trouser

"What? How?" he asked as he stood up immediately

"I don't know" Margie and Molly replied simultaneously but Margie in a lower tune

"I just can't comprehend" Molly continued "how it happened. It was going well, all of a sudden his blood pressure…" she explained as she bursts into tears.

"Listen to me Molly" she said as she tried to wear her deep-pink colored polo "Stop crying, I will be with you in no time" she assured

"Ok" Molly managed to say in tears

"Where are you right now" Margie asked

"Douglas's lab" she answered

"Ok, stay put I'm coming" Margie said and hurriedly hung up the call"

"Babe. I'm coming with you" Charles said

"Ok" she agreed as she sat on the bed waiting for Charles to get dressed "Robin can't be dead" she uttered regrettably covering her face with her hands.

They quickly drove to Douglas's lab in few minutes. Molly has Margie's shoulder to cry bitterly on without ceasing. After so much detailing of how it happened, crying and consolation. Molly wiped her tears helplessly. They relaxed in the lab until late in the evening when Douglas checked his time and it said 8:26pm

"We have to take you home Molly" he said

"Home?" she asked surprisingly "I can't go home" she added. Earlier on, she worried the weather was getting darker

"You have to go home Molly" Charles advised "That's the only thing to do, you can't keep this away from your mom" he added

"He is right Molly" Douglas said

"Yeah, he is right. How do you intend to face her because I'm pretty sure she confronted you on this?" she meanly asked Douglas.

He bent down his face because she is right. She is equally to be blamed because he passed a note of warning about keeping it away from Susan but they wouldn't listen. Instead, of retaliating, he swallowed the blame maturely and replied

"I will handle that when I get there" as he looked up to her "Let's go" he added and left.

As they drove home in Charles's car, she thought randomly of what Susan's reaction will be. In spite of all she graded her reaction to be, she still knows it wouldn't be nice.

She quickly remembered how Robin taught her how to resist Dog's chase when they were younger and tears dripped down her jaw.

As they got home. Susan is hosting Prisca when they walked in.

"Oh, I'm glad to have you all here" Susan enchanted happily as she hugged them one after the other

"Thank you" they chorused in pretense individually as they sat down.

"Molly, please come and help me serve them" Susan requested

"Ok" she accepted as she stood up giving Douglas a side gaze.

"Where is Robin?" Susan asked worriedly as they walked into the kitchen. Molly instantly loosed guard of herself. She couldn't control of her shivering hands which made the wooden ladle she is holding to fall. "Sorry" she said as she bent down to pick it up slowly thinking of what she said.

"Uhmm, I don't know, he should be on his way back" she managed to lie in fear as she stood erect

"Alright, are you ok?" Susan asked again looking intently at her as she noticed something is different with her

"Yes, I'm fine" she replied shivering and managing to smile as well

"Ok" Susan agreed as she turned to dish the food

"Charles and Margie trust me I won't entertain you in my house if you don't come along with a baby on your next visit" Susan warned as Molly served them. Prisca laughed out loud to that as the others managed to

"We are working on that" Charles replied

"Yeah, yeah. That was what you told me the last time" Susan said as Molly sat down to eat.

"Come on give the couple a break Susan" Prisca pleaded as she dropped her spoon on her plate to take some water.

"I have been begging for a long time now" Susan replied as they laughed

"Asides that, motherhood is the most fulfilling experience ever" Prisca asserted as the orders looked at her to clear her point. Then she continued, "It takes an overwhelming pain to deliver a child, think of the joy when you carry him or her in your arms?" she added as she smiling. "Watching them grow can be stressful and time demanding especially for the mothers. Buh the greatest joy of a mother is her child's success" she explained further as the others mopped at her absent mindedly. "So, Margie and Charles whenever you are ready to go into parenthood, please do. I say whenever you are ready because one has to be prepared intellectually and matured enough with sense of responsibility to carry it" Prisca lectured.

"Thanks" Margie appreciated looking at Prisca

"You are welcome dear" she replied

"I still remember vividly of when I delivered Robin" Susan said smiling.

At the mention of Robins name, their moods changed except Prisca who kept smiling at Susan. They began to suspect she knows about the incidence but tried to play along.

"That must be epic?" Prisca asked as Charles and Margie conversed in low tones

"Don't you think this food is poisoned?" Charles murmured into Margie's right ear

"No, stop it" Margie cautioned

"I'm worried, why is she so nice?"

"I don't know" Margie replied

"Is everything alright?" Susan asked them sharply

"Yes" Charles replied on their behalf trying to smile

"Is the food too spicy?" she asked again

"No, it's delicious" Margie replied

"Ok, as I was saying" Susan continued "I wouldn't say it was epic but Donald pulled up a show on that day" she said as she laughed out loud.

"We are listening" Prisca said smiling

"On that day, Robin didn't take so much time to come out" With this discussion, Molly started having stomach rumples. She isn't comfortable any longer. Her facial expression reveals something is wrong with her, but Susan and Prisca were so absorbed in their discussion that they didn't noticed.

"Robin was so tiny as the nurse rapped him in his small sized blanket" she continued

"Can you just stop talking about Robin" Molly thought

"Hey, relax" Douglas cautioned looking at Molly who is sitting right beside him

"He was cute too" she added

"I can see that" Prisca confirmed as she looked up to see little Robin's picture frames that is hanging close to the sitting room's bulb.

"When Donald came, he carried him on his head and went round the hospital"

"What?" Prisca shouted with her eyes wide open and bursts into laughter alongside Susan

"That's an experience I can never forget" Susan concluded while laughing

"Yeah" Prisca said

Few minutes into eating and chatting, "Douglas, I saw an ambulance in front of your lab today?" Prisca asked as she pushed her spoon full of baked beans into her mouth. Then Molly coughed out loudly to everyone's notice

"Take some water dear" Susan advised as Molly took a glass of water and emptied it into her mouth.

"Sorry my dear" Prisca said as Molly nodded putting up a strange eye contact with Douglas

"Yes, there was an ambulance" he replied to their surprise as Susan and Prisca laughed. Maybe, he is tired of playing the game.

"Honestly, I wondered if animals need emergency too" Prisca said as they laughed.

Right now, the eating pace for the other three slowed down drastically as they are scared of what Douglas's next response will be.

"I think; Douglas's dogs now need ambulance to get to the mortuary" Susan tissed as they laughed again

"Not my dogs Susan" Douglas replied meanly leaving Molly's breath hanging

"Then what is it?" she asked curiously as she chewed her food
