Chapter 15 - Molly's fear

Molly wished they will stay forever. Her burden is too many to carry alone. She thought of facing Susan's anger, fear from imaginations she already fabricated in her mind and nightmares of Robin's death.

As she turned and shot the door behind her back, a lonely sensation filled the sitting room. She purposely stood by the door for some time, backing it and holding its handle firmly. She used her eyes to survey every corner of the sitting room, rolling her bulgy eyeball from one property to another to make sure nothing will grip her from the back if she leaves the door handle. The door's handle became her fortress for some seconds.

Suddenly, she realized she wouldn't stand there forever. Then, she held her right index finger with her right thumb and index finger in fear as she gently walked back to her seat with no sound from the sole of her feet.

She carefully sat down, still looking back at the door she took as her defense in fear. She got confused of the sitting position to stay in order to defend herself quickly if need be. Engrossed by fear, she could see things that are unimaginable and hear sounds that never came from any source.

At this juncture, Molly's guilt ignited. She could hear Robin's and Susan's voice randomly, like though she is going crazy. She quickly held her ears with her hands and closed her eyes not to envisage such things, little did she know the mind on its own is a HD cinema that came play any sort of recorded memory or fear.

She quickly opened her eyes as she remembered vividly how Robin was breathing so hard to survive. The torments of fear she is passing through made her frown her face in discomfort and leaned back on the sofa she sat on hopelessly. She sluggishly stretched her legs vertically and shifted her head to the right as a way to give in to anything that wants to entrap her.

Her blames and regrets stood firmly before her. The lonely hands gripped her tight; she feels she is varnishing from her own self. Tears rolled down slowly from her left cornea, through her nose, down to her lips and jaw when she remembered she will not see Robin's face again.  She sniffed and turned her head uprightly to resolve what next to do.

Molly's confusion came in different dimensions leaving her more biased and weakened. She thought of going to bed to get some rest but also knows Susan is not sleeping either, she thought of Margie's suggestion as she wiped her tears and bowed her head low a bit and thought of putting it into action "Mom will not listen" she said to herself as she pushed her head backward again and raised one of her legs in a right angled position. She looked up to the ceiling for answers on what to do but the ceiling remained mute too.

Then she began asking herself questions she could not answer "Why did I accept Robin as my human subject in the first place?" she asked herself and frowned simultaneously. "Why is mom silent about this? she didn't cry much, why didn't she wail and shout at us? She wondered and brought her head down again to figure her questions out. As she questioned herself, it skipped her mind that silence can be a dangerous weapon too.

After few minutes of considering what to do, she decided to go and render an apology to Susan, to show how sorry she is and ascertain if she will pardon them.

As she stood up slowly, her phone fell off from her lap, she reluctantly bent down and picked it, held it tightly as if to be her source of strength and hope to be harkened to.

As she walked up the stairs slowly to Susan's room, she felt her marrows melted away because her muscles lacked the ability and strength to carry her up to her destination. As she managed to raise her legs to step on each staircase, she equally held onto the stair's reel as she climbed sluggishly rehearsing her speech.

As she staggered to get herself to the door, she wished she isn't doing what she is about to do, at the same time she considered it as a way to remedy herself. She stood still at the door waiting to be turned away, when she felt a sharp pain on her hip bone as she tried to adjust her right leg. In response to that, she quickly pressed her right hand against the wall, bending her waist slightly to ease the pain.

She made up her mind to apologize and plead for Susan's mercy. Despite that, she lacked words to use and express how deeply sorry and pained she is.

After few seconds of looking up aimlessly to the door's upper frame, she placed her left fist on the door and knocked.

"Come in" Susan replied to her surprise. Then she opened the door gently, peeping through to know where Susan is exactly. Then, she slowly limped in to support the waist pain and carefully shot the door behind her.

"I'm listening" Susan said before Molly could say a word "I'm sure you wouldn't stand behind me to plead for mercy" Susan added

Susan stood close to her bed, looking out through her window since she came up. She looks grieved but too quiet to let anyone understand what is in her mind or what she is passing through. She acts normal but in the real sense, dangerous. Molly summoned courage to face her but not looking into her eyes.

"I'm sincerely sorry for all my research has costed you mom" she pleaded bending her neck downwards. Susan took a while to majestically respond to this.

"Clarify me on which you are pleading for: Robin's death? or for not telling me about the cloning trial?" She asked meanly folding her arms right underneath her breast.

"Both" Molly replied shivering

"Interesting," Susan paused and readjusted her arms interchangeably "You know I always deceived myself about the peace you bring with you" She said pointing at Molly

"Why are you so selfish Molly?" she asked expecting no reply as Molly bursts into tears "You never imagined how I would feel even if this trial went well without my knowledge. All you cared for was to persuade your brother into this and drag him to his death" Susan lamented sullenly

"No, mom" Molly replied in tears as she knelt down immediately "I…" Molly tries to explain

"I do not need to listen to you Molly" she interrupted "You have stepped on my fifth left toe Molly, it pains me so much because that's my most vulnerable toe" She added raising her shoulder and eyebrows simultaneously

"Robin was part of my hope in life Molly. Unfortunately, you took that hope away, I'm sorry I cannot let it lie" she assured sounding less of a mother

"I already contacted Vanessa, please go" she concluded and looked away carelessly as Molly looked up to her in surprise. She slowly stood up and left quietly.

All of a sudden, her tears ceased at the mention of Vanessa's name. As Molly locked the door behind her, she quickly held onto the wall on her right, leaned on it and swiftly slides down in a squatting position. She gradually pushed her hair backwards, holding her head to understand the depth of what she is into.

One will wonder who Vanessa is. Vanessa is one of the prominent and highly recommended legal practitioners in Gozax. Her educational success and achievements stands out amongst all. Shockingly, she has never lost any case since sworn into court. Her success in the law field makes people run after her no matter how much she charges. A powerful influencer in the whole of Gozax.

Her non-sequential questioning in court can make an innocent client plead guilty unknowingly. Nothing passes her by, she leaves no stone unturned in her investigations.

Her facial expressions always seem friendly with her lovely smiles but she becomes a venom when she wants to push one's heard into the tight hole. Every verdict favors her client willingly. Unfortunately, Susan is hiring her.
