She entered and saw Susan seated in the sitting room, watching television program tuned up to its highest volume.
"Mom!" she shouted, then Susan turned quickly
"Oh" she replied as she picked up the remote to reduce the volume
"Why make it so loud" Molly asked as she moved a bit forward
"I have a lot going through my mind, I needed it to be loud enough to distract me a bit" she explained. "How was your day?" she asked smiling
"Fine" Molly answered reluctantly as she turned to make her way to her room but turned back immediately when she remembered all that Doulas told her.
"Mom, why did you lie to me about dad's project" she asked meanly
"I don't understand" Susan replied in confusion
"Douglas told me Picasso took over dad's cloning project after his death. Is that true?" She asked aggressively this time.
"Yes" Susan replied
"Interesting, so why did you lie to us about it?" she asked again. Then Susan quickly stood up.
"Because I wouldn't want to lose any of you to it too" she shouted, paused for a while as Molly stood still staring at her "Losing my husband to that deadly project the most devastating thing that ever happened to me" She added "I wouldn't want to experience such again" she concluded in a low tune
"Really?" Molly asked curiously "Dad was victimized out of circumstances not that the research is deadly. That same research was once of good use to this city, remember?" Molly asked again
"I don't care about how good it was, all I know is that none of my children will embark on that again, never." She replied meanly and sat down angrily. After Molly stood still staring at her for a while
"Fine" she said and headed to her room.
Later in the evening, the Chopkins' residence is so desolate. Robin came back and walked straight to his room not minding if anyone was at home. Molly as well locked up herself in her room with the company of Chokey and other of her animal exhibits. Susan felt lonely in her room, she came out but saw nobody when she sensed the retreat was as a result of the day's incidence. She tried to approach them
"Robin, come let's prepare dinner together please?" she pleaded standing closely to Robin's door which she usually opens without knocking on a normal.
"I'm not interested" he replied in his baritone voice
"Ok" she said and walked towards Molly's room slowly. As she got to her door, she said calmly
"Molly, I ordered pizza, your favorite flavor, would you mind to join?
"No thanks" she replied
Susan did all she can but they wouldn't give in. Then she retired to her bed for the night.
From weeks into months the Chopkins were never the same. They went about their various daily activities not uttering a word to each other. As Susan tried to get the family back together it proved abortive. At some point she called them for a brief meeting.
"I know you are both mad at me.; but still remember I am your mother. I may have failed you in so many ways, I will stand up against all odds to make you both happy" she said
"Including having an affair with Eric, your boss for money? Without our notice? Robin asked unfriendly
"I don't know what you are talking about" she replied in a deemed voice of uncertainty
"Tell me this is not true" Molly asked frowning
"I don't know what he is talking about" she shouted with a shaking voice
"Hahahaha" Robin laughed she stood up and left
"Cool" I will be in my room Molly said and left
Susan bent over her knees and cried bitterly. She couldn't comprehend why they turned against her.
"I miss you Donald" she lamented in tears as she leaned back on the sofa. She fell asleep for some minutes but was woken bas her phone rang.
"Yeah, Prisca" she answered in a coarsed voice as she picked the call
"Suzzy, are you ok?" Prisca asked with concern
Prisca is Susan's colleague at work that she is close with
"Not really" she replied rubbing her forehead
"Would you mind sharing with me?" Prisca requested
"Robin thinks I'm having an affair with Eric" she replied
"Wow, that's huge" Prisca said and continued "Did you try to convince then that you are not doing such thing?" she asked
"Yes but Molly seems to believe him" Susan replied
"Too bad" she said in disappointment "Suzzy you will be fine, I'm sure they will turn around
"Ok, thanks" she replied as she hung up the call
"Hmmm" she sighed in relief as she rested her head back on the sofa
In the evening of the same day, Robin suddenly badged into Molly's room while she was reading. She turned quickly
"Are you ok? What's the problem?" she asked curiously
"Relax, I've come in peace" he replied
"Ok" Molly replied still wondering why he badged in like that
"So, I will go straight to the point" he said as he sat on the table with half of his buttocks and continued "I'm here to be the big bro you ever wanted" He added
"I don't understand" she seemed confused
"Relax and let me finish Molly" he said smiling "I want to be part of your success story Molly, I guess I have missed us all this while. I have really stirred up a whole lot in a while now" he asserted
"Yes you have" Molly replied crossing her arms
"Yeah and that's why I'm here to make it up to you. Molly, I'm sorry for all I said to you the last time. Please forgive me, the way to prove I'm sincerely sorry. I want to be the human subject in your cloning research" he said
"What?" Molly shouted and felt his temperature to be sure he is alright
"What? I am serious Mo…" he said
"No you are not" Molly interrupted "You cannot do that" she added
"I can, in fact I will. I have deliberated on it and my mind is made up. So far I will come out alive, I will do it for you, Molly let's give dad a name, he deserves it" he said convincingly
"Really?" Molly replied amidst tears
"Yeah" Robin assured
"Oh my God this is the best thing that will ever happen to me" she said and hugged him tightly "You are the best Robin" she added
"Yeah, anything for you" he replied as they loosed hold of each other
"I'm going to tell mom right away" she said and tried to rush out
"No, don't do that" Robin said pulling her back
"Why?" Molly asked
"She wouldn't let us" he replied
"That's true" Molly confirmed "The only way we can achieve this is to keep it away from her" He advised
"Ok thank you once again" she said and hugged him again
"You are welcome anytime dear" he replied and kissed her forehead
"Come to think of what you said about mom, is it true?" she asked. Then he smiled and sat back on the table.
"Yes of course, I mean I can't lie against her" he affirmed
"How do you know? Did you see them together in a compromising position?" she quarried
"Chill," he replied smiling "My friends saw them" he added she asked again
"Really, your friends can misinterpret their relationship you know"
"I don't know about that. But come to think of it, how did she manage to send us to the best schools in town, carter for us for such a longtime single-handedly. Even now that she got fired I believe it's definitely for a reason" Robin explained more
"Don't make up such things in your mind about mom. It is possible to carry such responsibilities without dad" Molly doubted
"It's alright, if you choose not to believe me, its fine" he gave in
"Yeah; anyways, thanks a lot. I will quickly tell Douglas and Margie" she said joyfully
"Alright, remember it's a secret" Robin said as he left
"Yeah" Molly replied smiling
As Robin left, she quickly jumped on her bed in jubilate.
"Yes, yes, yes. Chokey we made it!" She acclaimed rejoicing
