Chapter 4 - A very normal burial

Arriving back at his home, the sun had already set.

Jeffrey rushed back as fast as he could without his horse, bringing along little Lily's body. Which was definitely a normal action, after all, would anyone question some man who was dragging a bloody corpse of a young girl? Well, they would probably turn the other way, but that was beside the point! Jeffrey had good intentions.

He was going to bury her next to his father.

She deserved that much.

As Jeffrey scanned his farmlands he found that most of his fields were scorched and his livestock killed and half eaten, left to rot.

What a wasteful lizard.

Even gods-damned rodents wouldn't be so wasteful.

Yet another reason to kill that flying lizard, it dared to damage his property, most likely in an attempt to further enrage Jeffrey into rushing into its dastardly trap.

Though Jeffrey was too mature to fall for such tricks. To make Jeffrey be baited so easily would be a miracle.

At a lone hill untouched by any flames, there stood a small Shade Tree.

There were two stone graves there. They were finely polished with a round edge.

One of which had the name of Jeffrey's father and the other had 'Lily' scribed on it.

Looking at his finished work he let out a sigh of satisfaction.

And a sad smile broke out on his face as the moonlight shined upon him as if comforting him as a parent would.

"Thankyuu~ Mister~~!" He remembered that sweet melodic voice too well.

Her scraggy brown hair rolled down her shoulder as she smiled, head tilted. One of her front teeth were missing, Jeffrey could tell that her skin was irritated beneath her rough, sackcloth clothes.

Every market day Jeffrey always had tried to interact with the villagers, though they always avoided him as if he were some criminal.

Only little Lily ever came by, and whenever he gave her freebies, the villagers around would always look at him like he might commit a crime at any moment.

The gazes felt uncomfortable but he didn't mind, he was long used to being looked at like a damned fiend.

There was even a time when someone told him to stay away from little girls and turn over a new leaf.

"Sigh," Jeffrey truly didn't understand what those people were on about. He wished he could though.

*Growl*

What an odd noise. I wonder where it's coming from? It seemed to originate from himself.

It was then that Jeffrey realised that he had nothing to eat for the whole day, putting two and two together, he deduced that he was starved.

The adrenaline from the day seemed to dull his senses.

Scanning himself Jeffrey found himself in no condition to fight a flying lizard. He was exhausted from rushing back home, was starved and fatigued from digging up a grave.

Even if Jeffrey avoided the trap, he still would be no match for the lizard.

In two days time, he would have prepped all the equipment he needed and be well rested enough to defeat the lizard.

And so, Jeffrey had his well earned supper.
