Chapter 8 - A very normal city lord

"Sigh," seeing the ruined fields and bloody pastures put a bind on his heart. The gentle morning sunlight did nothing to alleviate his pain.

He would probably never get used to this sight.

No matter, he had an egg, which could probably hatch, thus giving him more eggs, which could probably give him livestock, which would give him more eggs. Giving infinite eggs!

"Yeah right," Jeffrey was grasping at straws, though he was still intent on fixing up his farm.

Entering his home, surrounded by cobblestone walls and wooden fences he moved to another section of the house where he dismantled game. Putting the Combat Cockerel and the Night Crow on the worktable. Bringing out a hunting knife he started to remove the organs and feathers from these birds.

A Combat Cockerel was a relatively weak creature, though it could probably still kill an armed villager. It stood at around half of Jeffrey's height, with sharp claws and a ferocious beak. These were hyper aggressive creatures that attacked anything its size and even things larger than it. It was the true definition of a fearless fighter.

The Night Crow on the other hand unlike the Combat Cockerel could actually fly and was even capable of manipulating the elements, darkness specifically. This fact alone put it in a different league to the Cockerel, so the reality that the Cockerel even managed to corner the Crow so badly was a miracle. It was much smaller in comparison to the Cockerel only reaching up to Jeffrey's knees.

Anyway, having finished butchering the birds, Jeffrey was looking forward to a spit roast.

Preparing a fire pit outside Jeffrey roasted the Night Crow. It wasn't every day that one got to eat a magical beast such as the Night Crow.

The Night Crow lifted Jeffrey's spirits and he was ready to start anew and fix up his farm.

At the Fort City Tanz

"So you're telling me, that a gods damned red dragon appeared in my territory." Katz Tanz the City Lord of Fort City Tanz said in a low voice.

The reporting footman rapidly nodded his head.

"Yes, sir. Though it was just a message told by some villagers who allegedly fled from said dragon."

"Sigh, no matter. I'll send a scout team, if there truly is a red dragon in my territory then I will have to deal with it. Now leave."

With no further words, the footman rushed out of the office.

This was a problem.

Red dragons, no, just dragons in general, were large nuisances, and if not dealt with accordingly could topple this fort town. Katz felt a headache coming.

Red dragons were even known for being sadistic pricks that liked destroying stuff and killing people for the joy of it. If the dragon started moving towards the city, the losses would be unimaginable for a small city lord such as Katz.

Could this perhaps be linked with the increased monster sightings? Maybe the elves called it, no, those two hate each other.

"Order for a scout team to survey the dragon spotting location and to verify the authenticity, oh and tell them to bring one of the villagers as a guide."

Katz called out to a nearby servant.

Right now he could only wait for the news and make preparations.

"Sigh," he hoped that this was a hoax. However, to organise a city so far out on the frontiers, being cautious was what allowed such a backwater city like this to thrive for so long.
